Sony Officially Buys Factory Producing Wii U’s DRAM

Sony’s purchase of  the Renesas Electronics semiconductor manufacturing plant at Tsuruoka has gone ahead and the company has signed an agreement with Renesas to finalise the deal. The manufacturing plant manufactures the DRAM chip that is found in the Wii U, so many were wondering what Nintendo will do once the deal is finalised. Well, it looks as though Nintendo will be able to have the DRAM produced by Sony at Tsuruoka. This will probably happen until the production shifts to Renesas plant in Naka, or alternatively, Nintendo finds a new partner.

Thanks, Mankoto

    1. Not really. The factory was set to close and Sony helped it, but Nintendo will have to find a new partner regardless, because Sony are obviously going to take advantage of being the ones producing a vital component for Nintendo and will charge more for it.

    2. It’s because Sony dream to be like Nintendo one day ;) poor of them what a shame they don’t have their own creativity !!!

          1. Because you don’t have Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, The Legend Of Zelda: Windwaker HD, and New Super Mario Bros. U, Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate, and Wonderful 101.

            1. Sry this mario i have on 3ds, pikimin so easy and for kids imo, Zelda WW i finish on Wii GC mod, monster hunter have my bro on wii, Wonderful 101 this game is not for me :D

              1. You definitely haven’t played Pikmin 3 if you think it’s that easy. It is definitely a harder and well thought out strategy game…..definitely more difficult than easy. Children would not know what to do.

    1. I agree they have been doing stuff to hint like they want a partnership with Nintendo!! And imagine the possibilities! Best handheld system ever created!

    2. Nintendo and Sony actually respect each other, as much as the fanboys don’t want to admit it. I don’t think either of them give a shit about Microsoft though.

    3. Everyone want M$ down. While fans are easy to unite, the M$ has the power to unite Sony and Nintendo fanboys!

    4. Sorry in advance to anyone feeling offended by this but I wouldn’t mind if Nintendo became an exclusive PS4 developer. If games are the real deal with Nintendo then why this constant battle against Sony. The first thing Sony did with the Playstation was to put the N64 aside. If hardware and marketing is what makes Sony great then let them do that and let Nintendo do their thing which they’re great on – G.A.M.E.S.

      1. People like you… You’re the kinda person I overhear saying that in public and I punch in the face. Pieces of trash like you should be burned to a char and buried in a shoebox

  1. I’m starting to think that this site’s readers don’t understand how businesses work. There is no “like” or “hate” in business. Competitors do not equal mortal enemies. There is no console war.

    1. Nonetheless sony and Nintendo have a past. Sonys head said kind words to Nintendo last year but I’m pretty sure Nintendo don’t give a fuck and they’re just waiting til sony goes the way of thq

      1. The “past” they had happened 18+ years ago under an old CEO.

Besides, that’s not how businesses work. They compete, but they’re not “at war.” That’s just some fanboy’s wet dream. The bashing of competitors is all PR and literally means nothing.

  2. Why is this in so many ppl heads a bad thing? Every company who sells something to another has an agreement of what the price of that piece will cost.

When or if the company goes out of business then that’s it.

Now when Sony bought this company either they also bought the “contract” with Nintendo to continue to produce the product for the same price etc. or they did not. And Nintendo needs to either make a new contract with the company which now owns by sony or turn to another company who could make them what they need.
