the wii actually consumed less than the wii u (wii used roughly 15-20W and the wii u roughly 35-40)
this whole graph makes no sense.. at first i though they were calculating with the wii suspend state (10 watts power consumption in suspend) but that way alone the wii would consume about 80kWh per year…
anyway.. the wii consumed about half as much as the wii u if the suspend state was turned off..
If you run both systems together and feel the heat within the boxes, Wii U is actually cooler than Wii when running consecutively. Yes I have both consoles at home to test that theory.

They could have made the console have 1080P graphics and consume a lot more power, but it would hurt the environment so it’s better that they stay lower. Even if their games would have to run at slower speeds and look more like PS3 games, it’s worth it. It’s like how people wouldn’t eat at Ben and Jerry’s if they still used GMOs. Environment and Health always comes first!

Also being energy efficient is completely relevant to gaming, the more power a gaming device draws the more expensive it becomes to play it (not that a kid like you should care since you don’t pay the energy bill anyways), the more power it draws the warmer the console becomes and therefore its lifespan decreases and becomes easier to fail due to overheating.
Consoles are just like a PC, they gotta keep balance between power draw and computing output or else you’ll get lower performance per watt, lots of power consumption and higher temperatures (and eventually the death of your equipment).

You can run the game pad from the console via USB. The multi screen rendering is done in the box, the game pad doesn’t do any real work.
The Gamepad has some memory. If you unplug your Wii U and turn on the Gamepad, it willonly come on up to the Wii U tittle. That’s as far the Gamepd can go independently.
You’ll all notice the WiiU doesn’t break a sweat, even went rendering Black OPS multiplayer with the TV and Gamepad rendering each player differently. The box barely gets warm. So you have something that is graphically better than the PS3, running on 2/3 the power.
WiiU is efficient as hell. Microsoft and Sony need to pump a lot of power into their boxes to get graphics Nintendo probably could have a achieved with half the power if they wanted.
Also, PS4/X1 = needs more power = hotter boxes = more wear and tear on the components.
The X1 and PS4 us AMD APUs to run the graphics and the processing which takes up a lot of power and produces a shit ton of heat.
Wii U on the other hand is running on a PowerPC CPU and AMD GPGPU which are much more energy efficient AND still having the same power as a normal mid ranged APU.

And Ultra HD Tv’s aren’t a common sight yet nor cheap to get so… making an 4K capable console wouldn’t be profitable for either Sony, MS or Ninty.
