Other Nintendo Franchises Could Get The Mario Maker Treatment If It Sells Well

Nintendo of America’s Bill Trinen has hinted that Nintendo could produce Mario Maker style games for their existing franchises providing that the original game is a success when it launches sometime this year. Trinen says that Mr Tezuka is busy on the development side of things but the team at Nintendo are excited to see what the users create once the game is released.

We have nothing to announce on that now. Mr. (Takashi) Tezuka is working hard on Mario Maker and the game is progressing really nicely. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun seeing what people are able to do with the game when it comes out. During E3, we had everyone from moms and kids to longtime Nintendo fans and newer folks who just got into gaming lately just having tons of fun with the way they’re able to create stages. Depending on how people react, we’ll see if the teams take a similar approach with other franchises.

    1. That should’ve been in game already. Nintendo makes many platformers and this is one of the ways to give players more content and make the goddamn 50-60$ price somewhat more justified, but it seems they plan to sell those on their own. Good…..good…..good, no really, great.

  1. It won’t, User Generated Content games have been around for a long time, none of them sell well because people want to play games more than they want to make games

Companies keep wasting time and resources on this kind of project to this day

    1. They’ve made this one so user friendly, nay, even child friendly, plus added a few bells and whistles, that I think it’s going to be a big hit. Minecraft kind of has a build-you-own-level component with creative mode and I’ve seen people where that’s all they play…and we all know how successful that’s been. Frankly, I’m looking forward to playing some of the batshit insane levels that other people come up with. In a way, it’s going to feel like the most innovative 2D Mario title ever, imo. Day 1 purchase.

    2. It doesn’t take much to make Mario maker the game was basically done before they started. It’s probably the cheapest game Nintendo has made for Wii u so far beside super Luigi

  2. I doubt it would spread beyond Platformers or 2D stuff.
Imagine a “Kid Icarus Uprising”, “3D Zelda” or “Hyrule Warriors” Maker….
    No. No I can’t.

    1. If the Wii U can render basic 3D shapes, imagine a Ocarina of Time based Zelda Maker!

Personally, I’m all for Metroid maker. You could switch between Metroid 1, 2, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Other M.

              1. Tried but it was so stupid from the start,i couldnt play anymore.I saw some videos and still dont understand why people say its good.

  3. I love the overall concept of Mario Maker. But I still fail to see how this game will remain fun for very long with no real point, goal or story.

    1. Super Smash Bros. Melee had no real point, goal, or story, and I still play it regularly. If you enjoy making levels and playing other users’ levels, that’s that. I love beating people up and getting beat up in Smash Bros, and that’s that.

On the flipside, I will (90% of the time) sell back games with a storyline. Once I’ve finished, it’s over. That’s the end. Games without a story tend to have much more longevity, unless I’ve been playing all the wrong games with storylines.

    2. Some people are different, they make their own fun, goals, etc. I for one must have a story line/goal to keep me interested in it before I move on to another game. I believe that’s why this Smash has been a little less exciting for me; characters unlock easily, no story mode, just nothing to keep it going.

  4. As far as user generated content goes, I’ve always wanted an RPG that allowed players to put their real faces onto the characters in the game (not the Mii’s). From main characters to side characters, such as shop owners and certain bosses etc. I also wish there was a way to maybe record short phrases for characters to sometimes speak out loud, and different little things like that.

One of many things that made Earthbound so cool (and funny) was the fact that it allowed players to name the main characters, and even name their dog and favorite food etc. Ever since Earthbound (original release, not Virtual Console) I’ve been wishing for a customizable RPG. It would be even MORE awesome if a well known game such as Zelda had certain customization options like this. But I’ve lived long enough to know that I’m just dreaming, and that I’ll never get to see my dream games being produced. So I’ll just have to stick with playing what Nintendo wants to make, instead of what I want.

  5. It’s obviously going to sell well, you are almost garunteed at least 2 million copies sell every single time you release a mario game. so quit stalling and get busy on DK maker!

  6. Metroid Maker will be really neat.
    -Large selection of enemies.
-Creation of the awesome maze-like world.
    -It’s Metroid.
    -Alliteration.

  7. Heck, just give us “Nintendo Maker” and save the trouble of making multiple games.
It could have Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Star Fox, F-Zero- do I stop here?

  8. ‘Makers’ that I want to see.
    3D Nintendo franchises.
Zelda-Based off of Zelda 1, Zelda 2 for NES and A Link To The Past themes.
Metroid-Based off of Metroid 1, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission.
F-Zero-Based off of the Original SNES version and the GBA versions.
Kirby-Based off of the NES versions and the SNES versions.
If 3rd party as well then-
Megaman-Based off of the NES/SNES versions and the X series and
Sonic-Based off of Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Sonic CD.

  9. people thinking they can be a game designer when they master these games -_-

    lets see here
    dk maker: possible
    2d zelda maker: possible
kirby maker: no real point to it unless it’s like kirby and the amazing mirror
metroid maker: possible but people don’t realize how hard it is to make a good metroid game and that will kill most of the community for it
    MK track maker: yes please

  10. what id liek to see:
Pikmin Type Maker and Pokemon Maker and Sonic Boom Glitch Maker and CoD HaloZ Map Maker and Minecraft Block Maker

  11. This type of game would work well for platformers like donkey Kong country, Kirby, etc. But what I really want to see is ZELDA MAKER! I understand it’s only realistic to be able to make dungeons, and not full games, and also it would only really work for top-down Zelda themes like Link Between Worlds and Phantom Hourglass. This would be awesome though! Making Spirit tracks themed dungeons. The gamepad and stylus would be perfect for the DS Zelda dungeons. Please make a Phantom Hourglass themed dungeon maker!

  12. What about pokemon maker? No one ever said that and i think it would be simple. Add a gym here, control what creatures would appear in forests. On the dark side, include the lavender town theme, and the

  13. Guys, just think about it: F-Zero Maker. Miyamoto stated he doesn’t have new ideas to make another game in the franchise. It would be a great idea to let the fans make their own tracks! :D

  15. I’ll probably skip them all just because I don’t like building games. No matter how much I force myself into them (Disney Infinity, Minecraft) I just don’t get into them due to a lack of building creativity. That said hopefully Nintendo does a good job putting this game together so even us non-builders find fun in this. Of course I could play other people’s levels but I much rather just buy a new game period.

  16. This sounds cool.i’d be up for some zelda (dungeon) maker. It’d be better if you could play other people’s dungeons…and courses for this one.
