The Seattle Mariners‘ baseball stadium, Safeco Field, in Washington is currently emblazoned with adverts for Splatoon. The ads’ placements aren’t a complete shocker, though, as the Mariners are owned by Nintendo of America. Nonetheless, it’s still pretty cool to see promotional artwork from the upcoming Wii U game pop up on TV as you’re watching a baseball match in the Mariners’ territory. Splatoon is set to launch on May 29th.
Splatoon Ads Display In Seattle Mariners Baseball Stadium

I don’t like Baseball, but I was wondering, is this team popular? Do lots of people watch it?
How can you not know Felix Hernandez? Are you blind? Are you death? LOL!
Cool! A JP User! Sup/Hi!
Hi ;)
We will send Kenta Maeda and Shouta Ohtani to MLB near future. Hope Mariners will acquire them.
:O Send Link too!
I’m from Seattle and Mariners sucks and stupid
Not as much as NY Mets. lol
k
Are you death lolol.
And yes, yes I am.
R.I.P.
He’s not the Grim Reaper…
Grim Raper
Clayton Kershaw is legend.
They are own by Nintendo
This was what I was saying. They have a Baseball team, use that to their advantage to Advertise the Wii U. Even as much as a Wii U logo on their Baseball jersey is good…
LOL @ all those that didn’t know Nintendo own the Mariners. Of course they’ll advertise there because it’s free. Let’s see them spend money to advertise the game. Haven’t seen a Wii U ad of any description for a year.
We did have a few Project S.T.E.A.M ads a while back on IGN and YouTube, although the did only run for like a week or two.
Nothin on the top but a bucket and a mop and an illustrated book about birds….
For all that know, that was for you…
Ball players want to hire a janitor for their houses.
You seem to be a perfect fit for the job.
sick burn fam
King Felix is now 6-0. :) except that Mariners is still struggling.
So it has taken them 3 years to finally learn how advertise a Wii U title.
On a day that King Felix, Mariners ace will take on the mound.
>>>They did the same thing with Mario Kart 8 though, but like 3 games in 3 years that get this type of marketing is pathetic>>>
They chose the wrong day to advertise.
Do it on the day King Felix will take the mound.
And we’ve seen how well Mario Kart 8 has performed. Nintendo are banking on a decent performance for Splatoon by doing this.
If they can get Felix Hernandez, Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz, and Kyle Seager on commercial, that’s even better promotion.
Seattle Mariners is owned by NoA so starring them shouldn’t be a problem. Right? ;)
Maybe a wii u advertisement about family time am I right?
Or some insane baseball game featuring them for wii u.
NoA own a baseball team? Hmm spank my ass and call me Susan. I had no idea.
This is the best thing I’ve ever read.
Lul… Spank me too!
you mean to tell me you never knew of NOA nintendo’s baseball team?
No never, this is actually quite the surprise. I’m not a sports man myself so that’s probably why, buts its very surprising nonetheless.
Susan
Spank! Spank!!
Bravo Nintendo bra-fucking-vo. Someone finally made a smart advertising decision.
Name a comment you’ve made that doesn’t have fuck in it. Really though.
I Don’t know. Go fucking dig my comment files.
Was… was that person upset with the fact you say fuck a lot? If so, too bad for him/her… Fuck fuck fuck…
I have no fucks to give when someone tries to put me in place. They can go suck fucking dick. “Commander”
I prefer Master over Commander. Like Jedi Master. Just minus the Jedi part. Master has always sounded more evil & awesome.
*dig up
FOUND ONE!!
I SHALL TREASURE THIS COMMENT FOREVAR!!
>:D
Fuck!!! Lol
King Felix
K K K K K K K K
Just once and only once.
They could have advertised Wii U last year on King Felix v.s. Jon Lester day.
Could’ve sworn I saw something about NoA selling the Mariners. Guess not. I remember seeing a DSiWare app for the Mariners. Not into sports, so didn’t download, but it’s there even if I don’t know what it’s for exactly.
Go A’s!
What interested Nintendo in an American Baseball team to begin with? Especially the Mariners… It’s very strange, but kinda cool at the same time…
It shouldn’t be a surprised really, their HQ is located in Washington and they have enough money to shell out, why not take a team that has been pretty bad for the past decade and do some advertising in the park?
Anyways a little fun fact but the team was bought by a Japanese Nintendo chairman back in 1992, he never attended a Mariner’s baseball game but he still invested in the team.
Long story short, Nintendo owns a baseball team(a bad one unfortunately) and not many people know about it. (Except I’ve known for the longest time because I watch a heck of a lot of baseball c; )
Nintendo saved Mariners. Otherwise they would have moved to Florida.
Only if Nintendo would’ve put this much advertising muscle behind Bayonetta 2 the game would be at 2 million sold by now
In May 2014? Nah! Mariners weren’t contending at that time.
This is cool. But I’m wondering why the advertisement is in Japanese. Usually when it’s an advertisement in the US it’s most likely fully in English with little of another language. This is the first time I have seen one like this cause it looks like it’s an advertisement that would be in Japan.
Well the Mariners are sponsored by Japanese partners so it shouldn’t be a surprise that there would be Japanese ads in the mix. Like I mentioned in a response above, The Mariners is owned by NoA but the owner was a Japanese Nintendo chairman. The owner passed away a couple of years ago and all his assets were transferred to NoA quite a few years before that. They probably felt it was still an honorable thing to keep putting up those ads even if they’re free to make them fully in English.
Other than that, the Mariners have been known to raise some good japanese players in their farm systems over the years, Ichiro Suzuki a household name.
Watch baseball on a day Tanaka Masahiro from New York Yankees pitches. All advertisement are in Japanese while he’s on the mound.
The Mariners are an amazing team with a awesome history. Though they haven’t met with much success in recent years, there was a period of time where they were like the west coast version of the Yankees. During that time throughout most of the 90’s and early 2000’s, the Mariners were a powerhouse and had a good number of the best players in baseball. Names like Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez, Randy Johnson, Edgar Martinez, Jay Buhner and Ichiro Suzuki were household legends and all got their start on the Mariners. In 2001 the Mariners set a record for the most wins in a season by any team in baseball history. Yet, despite all of this, their history is a tragic one, as they have never actually won a world series. Nevertheless, Nintendo owns the team, which adds even a little more cool factor to them. This, in addition to the city of Seattle being a major commerce and immigration hub for Japan, means the Mariners have attracted a sizable Japanese fanbase that follows the team both domestically and from Japan itself. This is why you see ads placed in the park written in Japanese. It is like seeing the Dodgers stadium with ads in Spanish. Personally speaking, the Mariners have always been my favorite team. It is just a weird coincidence that they are also owned by my favorite video game company.
Pretty disappointed to hear that Hisashi Iwakuma is on DL. Good thing is King is dominating and Nelson Cruz is hitting home runs.
According to Japanese medias, Hisashi Iwakuma is ace of Mariners.
Personally, I would love to see a duel between King Felix and Sonny Gray.
Jon Lester, Sharks, and Jason Hammel weren’t needed. Especially Lester for Cespedes.
Mariners needs Lester.
nintenedo… advertising… WHAT
Felix Hernandez
King, Lester, Iwakuma, Paxton, Walker would make perfect rotation.
If they have a shot for World Series, they can go for Price, Cueto, or Zimmermann to deepen their rotation even more.
King, Price, Cueto, Zimmermann, and Iwakuma.
King, Price, Cueto, Lester, and Zimmermann. Iwakuma is moving to the bullpen.
And assuming Cueto and Zimmermann will leave for free agent, we can clear out our farm system for Cole Hamels and Yu Darvish.
King, Price, Lester, Hamels, and Darvish woyld stoll make a perfect rotation.
Sounds like you know your stuff! You a Mariners fan too?
Nah man those red sox those
Koji’s my boy.
How’s Red Sox doing this year? LMAO
So many clueless losers here.
Nintendo, a console without a single sports game is advertising at a sporting event. This is the most retarded company in history.
If you were paying any attention, Nintendo owns the Seattle Mariners so of course they are going to advertise at any baseball game that they are taking part in. So it’s not retarded for them to advertise at this particular sporting event. More importantly, they don’t have to have a sports game to advertise at a sporting event. McDonalds, Burger King, etc don’t own sports games so by your reckoning, Nintendo can’t be the most retarded company in history since those companies would be competing with Nintendo for that place. Oh why am I bothering since you just a silly little troll that felt like exploring out from under it’s bridge. *shrug* Whatever. Fire your best shot, kid. :3
OMG THEY NEED TO SPONSER THAT FESTIVAL IN INDIA WERE THEY TROW PAINT AT EACH OTHER 0_0 thank me later nintendo
Damn, now that’s marketing! They are really pushing Splatoon huh. Maybe I might just have to buy it if Ninty has so much confidence in this.
Too bad Nintendo, too late for marketing WII U cause they are dead.
What’s dead? The Wii U? Odd. Last time I checked, they were still selling Wii U consoles, small number or not, & a bunch of software. *shrug*
^ Wow somebody wasn’t paying attention on how Nintendo made lots of money for the future… Remember if even if you sell a million PS4s or XBOs, the loss from cutting the price down will still not make them a million. So who’s dying now?
Anyhoo, didn’t the art department realize the “U” for Wii U is drowned out by another blue color? From afar that ad only spell out Wii…
You do realize the PS4 is selling at a profit?
When ever I see Alba on this site, my mind always thinks of Jessica Alba….I love her so much :'( haha
They always advertice Wii U and 3DS games on the Mariners games…. Nothing new
Of coarse there advertising is in the Mariners arena. Nintendo owns the Seattle Mariners!
An advertisement for Splatoon = a top news story for Nintendo. You know what’s even more pathetic then that though? Nothing.
That’s even worse if they lost that day.
Ads in Major League baseball is a good way to promote your product! That’s for sure.
Do it on LA Dodgers, News York Yankees or Boston Red Sox days. More people will watch the games.
That’s good marketing with something you own
Nintendo needs to do this for the entire baseball season for both Wii U & 3DS titles. After all no matter how popular their team is or how well it’s doing viewers from across North America will be seeing the games.
I wouldn’t say for an entire season to be honest. Mariners are usually out for postseason by mid-September so stadium is pretty empty.
Nintendo advertising? WHAT??
Their upcoming game on the day Mariners ace took the mound. It would have been better if Sonny Gray also took the mound.
Ugh… baseball. Nintendo would own a baseball team….
Because they can.
Nintendo saved Mariners from moving to Florida.
What’s wrong with Baseball? It’s not exactly my kind of sport but I respect it.
I have been to lots of Mariners games and I have played a lot of Splatoon. It’s cool how some companies always seem to nail their target demographic with marketing campaigns. Stadium advertising gave the company a way to reach an unlikely pool of potential customers. http://accesssportsmedia.com
My question is whether that advertising impacts the the pitcher’s performance. I mean all those colors must be a little distracting. I like that they are opening up advertising from just beer but maybe the colors might distract someone.
