Retro Studios Veterans Explain Why Nintendo Removed Super Metroid From Metroid Prime Beta

Investigative video blogger Tamaki from Unseen64 has been in contact with veteran developers from the critically acclaimed Retro Studios to find out why Nintendo decided to remove Super Metroid from the Metroid Prime Beta. The full game of the Super Nintendo classic Super Metroid was supposed to be added to the sci-fi shooter as an unlockable bonus. It was apparently removed as the developer used a third-party emulator to put Super Metroid into Metroid Prime. This is something Nintendo wasn’t happy about, so they ultimately had it removed.

  1. This thing remind me of that stupid team that was develop a Marvel game and want to put Samus and Link on the game, and when they presented the idea to Nintendo they do it so using a PS2.

I do not want to say something bad about anyone related to the development of Metroid Prime, but showing to Nintendo a 1st party software running on a 3rd party device (or in this case, software) is stupid.

  2. It could have been great since the first Prime had the original NES Metroid but Virtual Console exists today so it’s no problem.

  3. Instead of shutting down Retro’s idea, Nintendo should have helped them. If Nintendo didn’t have their own in-house emulator, they should have built one and have Retro use it.
