SEGA has announced as part of Sonic’s 35th birthday celebrations that Classic Sonic will be coming to Sonic Racing CrossWorlds later today. That’s not all as two other characters, Axel from the Crazy Taxi series and Amigo from the Samba de Amigo franchise, have also had their release dates teased.

- Axel – August 2026
- Amigo – September 2026

I can give you a reason. Franchises going back to their roots is often cringe and Sonic is not an exception. Instead of growing like having all Sonics friends go super, having all of Sonics friends being playable in a mainline game at all, have Sonic fuse with Shadow (unless you count Classic Sonic in a Shadow costume), bring back chao garden, or-I don’t know-have Sally Acorn be playable, Sega in the Smith would rather go backwards by either having Classic Sonic be playable or only have Sonic be playable. Sure, you could argue Sonic Frontier is an exception, but Sonics friends are only playable in the final horizon. Either way, only Sonic can go super in that game. Sega needs to quit living in the past and give fans what they want before they lose them all.

Flop game they refuse to give up on even worse the last one flopped and was cheaper no third party guests.
Crossworlds is an awesome game. I’m glad to see Crazy Taxi rep.
Hopefully, there is a Crazytaxi track as well.
