Sales of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds and Shinobi have fallen short of expectation

SEGA isn’t particularly happy with the sales of both Sonic Racing CrossWorlds and Shinobi: Art of Vengeance as they simply haven’t met internal expectations. SEGA says that initial sales were strong and then momentum drifted off. SEGA naturally hoped that both titles would have had more legs.

  1. Lol of course… it’s a Sonic racer… we all knew this was bound to happen even when people said it was better than Mario Kart World… where are they now?

    1. Sonic Riders was good. These kart racers for Sonic are awful they will never beat Mario Kart. The hate was super manufactured by angry millennial losers also Sega paid a ton of influencers to push this game when it launched that’s why. Moving forward the plan is to pay more influencers and gaslight even harder to give off the illusion of success for all their flop games. Part of Aaron Webber’s playbook.

    1. Sonic Riders Was Better

No previously it was Yakuza and Persona that got them money now the teams that made those games are mostly gone. Instead they fake it now they refuse to admit this game was a flop. Aaron Webber of course and don’t worry 2027 will be a year of flops the continuation of this, new Sonic game, Stranger Than Heaven, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Fighter 6, Persona 6 not on Switch 2, Alien Isolation 2, and who knows if Persona 4 remake does well? So they are in for massive L’s and that’s not mentioning Rovio they still are suffering from spending near $1 billion buying them.

  2. Sega, You released these games at the wrong time. If sonic racing come out before mario kart world in 2024 and shinobi didn’t release so close to silksong, then I felt like they would have sold better.

    1. But wasn’t Crossworlds the “Mario Kart killer”? Wasn’t Mario Kart World such an awful game? Then the release date should hardly matter since it was so obvious which was the better game.

The answer is even simpler: Crossworlds isn’t a good game. Too expensive for what it offers, there’s a distinct lack of polish and care (Sega’s characters not even being voiced), the very idea of Sonic car racing being too stupid in hindsight (Transformed worked because it was more about the stars from Sega instead of being Sonic-centric). People got past the hype and noticed that the game was far from the killer game it looked.

      1. Bring Back Sonic Riders

Transformed was meh too also this is worse they spent even more marketing this then burned a ton of cash on third party guests. Transformed only had Banjo Kazooie as guests.

    2. No it wouldn’t have also this was multiplatform and even worse they burned a ton of money on third party guest characters Pac Man, Mega Man, Avatar, TMNT, Minecraft, Spongebob, and many others plus the advertising to show at certain events that cost millions for a reveal then all the influencers they paid to shill the game. No way this was making it back and even worse they refuse to pull the plug on this with more third party IP showing up and they are doubling down on influencers. Right not influencers don’t sell product from other big name companies they are mostly clowned on.

      1. Exactly just bring back Sonic Riders and spend less on marketing it would at least break 1 million especially with the 4Kids voice cast coming back. The issue is Aaron Webber, Iizuka, and Ian Flynn when they’re gone change will come.

  3. Meanwhile Mario Kart coasts on basically the same game with little changes every generation. At least DKR on the 64 was different and better. They’re all the same these days. Maybe with the exception of CTR.

Sales don’t always mean much, Mario movie is rated less than Sonic movies but still sells more, Pokémon sells but it’s not even a good game, CoD sells and it’s not so good.. Etc, etc..

You get the point. Fanboys will be fanboys and simp regardless of quality, thus increasing sales.

    1. Look at each mario kart, they all introduce new features. 64 brought in multiplayer in full 3d, super circuit was the first portable mario kart with all of the snes tracks in it, double dash had the team mechanic, mario kart ds had retro courses, mission mode, and online, mario kart wii had motion controls and the trick system, mario kart 7 had custom karts, water driving, and gliding, mario kart 8 had anti-gravity and mario kart world had 24 players and a open world approach. Same thing with sonic, the first one on 360/ps3 was pretty generic, but transformed did pretty much what mario kart 7 did, and team sonic racing did what double dash did, and crossworlds did it’s own unique thing.

Sonic has literally been doing the same thing but copies from previous mario kart games. That’s not underestimating what the sonic racing games are, they are great games but they do feel derivative off of other racing games.

Call me a fanboy or something, but mario kart seriously does something unique with each entry while sonic racing games just replace the previous game.

    2. Besides it not being true, because every Mario Kart brings enough changes to be completely distinct from one another, what’s the point of change if the end result isn’t good? Change for the sake of change more often than not brings more bad than good. DKR was far from better: it had awful controllers all around.

Also lol at Pokémon not being a good game. It makes the numbers for a reason. Recent games aren’t that good but the franchise itself has way more hits than misses.

      Cope harder.

  4. LOOOOOOL but it was a banger according to sonic fans
anyway, sega add Banjo Kazooie in it like you did last time. If its the nut and bolts model, pffft no thanks

  5. They flopped and yet Sega burns more money on Sonic racing. 2027 will be worse Stranger Than Heaven, Virtua Fighter 6, Sonic, Alien Isolation 2, Persona 4 Revival, Crazy Taxi, and Persona 6 it will be Sega’s year of flops mixed with their bad acquisition of Rovio and I think Sonic 4 will flop too. They are going to learn the hard way, Kiwami 3 I think flopped too.

  6. Fire Aaron Webber already! Now the plan is to double down on influencers they are going to go broke they burnt a ton of money paying off influencers for the Sonic kart racing game they paid Xqc, RDC, and a ton of others to play it then they’ve also burnt money paying that POS hack Max Dood to play games and he never does just talks over the game being on screen and they’ve paid him off at least 5 times Sonic X Shadow Generation, Yakuza Ishin, Yakuza Pirate, Yakuza Kiwami 3, I think Shinobi and they take his boomer feedback for Virtua Fighter and Crazy Taxi his friends like Simmons helped ruin Sonic. There’s also all the money they burned to reveal these games a few times at Geoff Keighly shows multiple times.

    1. They paid him to play Metaphor as well. Other companies too like Bandai with the Bleach game he didn’t play either and reccently WB to promote the MK2 digital release despite him and his friends calling WB evil they also got to go meet Karl Urban at the movie premiere. These companies waste money on things like this it just gives influencers easy money and their opinions don’t matter it’s a bunch of out of touch useless 40 year olds if you want to make money cater to Gen Z stop holding these millennial events and cater to zoomer notalgia we don’t hate AI and it would be cheaper and sell better. The gaming feedback events are filled with old people no one under 40 same with TV and film it’s a big echo chamber of narccisism and gaslighting themselves to believe lies. Companies need to cut this off now. Listening to those people this long got them here, 40 year olds not all are playing games they have responsibilites meanwhile a 20 year old has way less or none many are not home owners and would spend on this stuff if it struck their Y2K nostalgia instead it doesn’t same with TV and movies and millennials hate everything Gen Z likes normally trying to pretend to be us it’s creepy.

      1. The last Sonic kart racer flopped instead of giving us Sonic Riders back they made a more expensive kart racer only Sega is this dumb. Also Tupac and Snoop don’t come cheap for Stranger Than Heaven.

  7. Aaron Webber has nothing to do with the development of games at Sega or what is featured in them. Stop spouting random names you’ve heard online but know nothing about. All it does is nake you look like a moron.

    1. Aaron is that you? Don’t worry you’ll be fired soon. Sonic Boom, Tupac and Snoop in a Yakuza game, pushing out Nagoshi, Sonic Prime, IDW Sonic, this game, Rovio, and a whole bunch of things to come in 2027 will result in you being gone.

  8. Oh dear, Mr Schizo is back again.

Someone really needs to check him into therapy at some point, because these inane rants are getting borderline disturbing with how much he repeats the same things over and over every single day, still (poorly) pretending to be multiple people.

    What a sad existence.

  9. Ah yes the nontendo fanboys flocking to an outdated article and not capable of reasoning beyond a headline. There will still be season pass 2 and 3. Guess the nontendo fanboys need something to distract themselves from as they pay for 70 bucks for outdated ports.

    1. Why are sega and nintendo fans fighting? Like both companies feel so similar to each other with their game output.
