More Games Inducted Into The Game Hall Of Fame

Nintendo have announced that Super Mario Bros. is to be introduced into the Game Hall of Fame, but joining it are other immensely popular games; Pacman, Doom, Tetris, Pong and World of Warcraft. Games selected for recognition are based on the criteria of icon-status, longevity, geographical reach, and influence. Do you think these titles are worthy of their place in the Game Hall of Fame?

  1. The only one I don’t really know about is doom. It isn’t quite as well know as the others among the general populace

    1. Wow I can tell you guys are young!

Doom was the most popular fps game in the 90’s. You said the word “Doom”, and everybody knew what you were talking about. Doom was more popular than COD and Halo combined…

Doom is the reason I don’t play fps’s anymore. I put over five thousand hours into Doom, and got burnt out on the entire genre…

    2. Wow I can tell you guys are young!

Doom was the most popular fps game in the 90’s. It was more popular than COD and Halo combined. It had no competition.

Doom is the reason I don’t play fps’s anymore. I put in over five thousand hours into Doom, and got burnt out on the entire genre.

      1. How’s he a troll? He just stated that he liked the game, what’s so trolly about that???O_O

        1. Thank you, but its not even worth it. Get raped verbally for having a different taste in gaming. Nothing new really.

  2. World of Warcraft got in over Zelda? Well that officially debunks this hall. Mario, Tetris, and pong are all worthy, I don’t know what doom is, but WoWC seriously? Over Zelda SERIOUSLY?!?!

        1. Dude, don’t be an ass. Everyone has different tastes, if enjoying Wow makes me have no taste then the same goes for you bro.

            1. There’s no way Zelda won’t make it in. Zelda is totally deserving, and I’m sure it won’t be long till it joins the hall of fame too :)

    1. You know what, I wonder if they’re purposely putting Zelda off till next year on its 30th anniversary? Hmmmm…?

      1. It’s possible I guess. Im really excited for the new Zelda game and I won’t even be able to play it : p. Heck, even just some new info would be nice. I really hope they do something like Twilight Princess with the bug collecting, but maybe this time they could be kept in Link’s shack or tree stump lol.

    2. Wheter you hate or love World of Warcraft, it defined gaming for an entire generation.
Doom is what defined the FPS genre before Goldeneye 007 on the N64:
-In 1996, Next Generation ranked the series as the 19th top game of all time, for how “despite the hundreds of copycat titles, no one has ever been able to equal id’s original, pulsing classic.”-

For Zelda, it probably will be included soon.

    3. it didn’t get in in place of zelda, it got in because it was the world’s first and most popular MMO, zelda will almost certainly be added at a later date anyway

  3. What the hell was in the hall of fame before? I’m picturing an empty room with one of those digital poker handhelds from the 90’s. These are all titles that should have been listed to start with

    1. This is the first year the Strong Museum has done a video game hall of fame. The museum has focused almost exclusively on toys before this. It is pretty cool, though; I recommend checking it out online.

        1. Well you dont have to play all of them lol just get the emu for Doom.

Wait, are you referring to the new one thats getting shown at E3 later this month?

          1. Yeah, I saw that. I think it’s supposed to be a reboot. If it is, I’m definitely getting it. :)

  4. Chill your pants, y’all. Zelda was on the finalist list. They probably put a cap on how many to induct initially, as many organizations do. Also probably wanted a variety of games from different genres, systems, and time periods for the very first induction. Don’t worry, it will make it in there in the next few years.

Also, if you don’t like which games made it make sure to nominate your choice for next year. Otherwise shut it :P Personally I am surprised that Mortal Kombat wasn’t even on the finalist list.

  5. Zelda is the first game that just drops you in a world to explore. And so big it introduced the save mekanik. Find a game that do not include saving to this day.

  6. I didn’t know that games had Hall of Fame just like baseball. I wonder if there will be Hall of Fame for eSports players.

Personally, my favorite MLB Hall of Famer is Randy Johnson. He’s a strikeout machine and 5 times Cy Young winner. ;DD

I’m calling Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander, Felix Hernandez, Jon Lester, Ichiro Suzuki, Robinson Cano, Albert Pujols, and Miguel Cabrera for next Hall of Fame.

  7. God dang, jackyanne. way to confuse everyone. This for the VIDEO GAME HALL OF FAME, and these are the VERY FIRST INDUCTIONS EVER.

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>They’ll probably be as useless as ever and induct Call of Duty before Battletoads>>>

      1. If Call of Duty or Fifa get inducted, then I shall roll in my grave for the rest of my End Game…

          1. After the Fifa Scandel, I wish to destroy Sepp Blatters’s corrupt grave. That man will go to hell and make friends with the Devil…

          2. I will be pissed off if any of those get into the Hall of Fame before Zelda, Metroid and Donkey Kong…

              1. Donkey Kong is Nintendo’s original mascot, he put Nintendo on the map and helped increase interest in Arcades. Donkey Kong turns 35 next year, he really deserves it…

                  1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

                    >>>This isn’t about liking something, this is about a game that changed our world forever>>>

  8. Pac man is way to fucking over rated 1. Hes techicly not the first video game character, 2. He was partally responceable for the video game crash, 3. Most of his games are terrible, 4. Sonic/Segs deserves a place since it started the first controversial video game fan war

    1. 1. Well duh.
2.He isn’t responsible even in the slightest.
3.After the PS1/N64 Era, yes Pacman’s games have been below par.
4.Who denied that Sonic should be in, he should totally be in. Plus, what you said for number 3, could also be said about Sonic…

      1. You obviously never heard about the flop that was pac man – atari 2600, at least sonic HAS good games pacman has the overused aracde classic and pac attack

    1. Isn’t it? But i can see why wow was put in its one of the biggest franchises that specializes in mmos, but it is a big soul sucker like animal crossing

  9. What!!! No Clay Fighters, Rocky Rodent, Areo The Acrobat, Cool Spot or Rocket Knight Adventures???!!! What a joke

  10. All deserving entries, except Doom is very odd. Quality-wise, Doom kind of sucked, even in its time, it was just a step on the way to FPSs that were actually good like GE007 and Half Life..

Also, Doom only sold 2.9 million, so it’s not even close to the popularity level of any of the other games on the list which have sold in the tens of millions.

  11. I’m surprised they weren’t in there already. Pong was one of the first games, Mario revived the game industry, wow Is a hugely popular mmo (could you say it defined mmos?), Tetris is a classic puzzle game, and doom was a wildly popular fps and pacman is super fun too. Congrats to all of them! :)

  12. Might as well include the majority of the list compiled here:

The word “important” can mean a lot of things, so let’s clear this up right away. When we say these are the most important of all time, we aren’t referencing how good they are; instead, these are the games that ultimately shaped the industry as it is today. The games that invented or popularized genres, or transformed video games from “kids’ toys” into acceptable pastimes for people of all ages and walks of life. After countless debates over which of them belonged on our list and why, we’re proud to present our 50 most important games of all time.
