Nintendo and Amazon may be shaking hands once again. According to an Amazon listing, the world’s number one online retailer is directly selling New Nintendo 3DS XL’s (in black and red) at MSRP. While to some this may seem like standard affair, Nintendo and Amazon have been in (what seems like) a business feud. Since 2011, Amazon has refused to stock Nintendo 3DS — previously the only way to get a Nintendo 3DS from Amazon was by buying it through third-party sellers (as compared to Amazon itself). While no specific reason was given by either of these two titans, this latest listing (along with a slew of other Nintendo/Amazon cooperation) suggests that perhaps the unknown dispute has been settled.
Amazon And Nintendo: Back In Business?
Awesome, its was about time that they settled it. The whole “feud” was because of Ninty not taking back the bad 3DS’s with the Hinge and screen problems, right?
I would imagine — however, without either of them talking, I doubt we will know for sure.
I also thought it might be an issue with Nintendo’s business practices with keeping their retailers informed… or lack thereof.
I thought I read something along those lines, it was probably just some one assuming I would imagine. Yeah true, that could be it as well. Regardless, it looks like they settled things and that’s all that matters.
I thought for sure it was the screen problems the og model had. I hated it and was so excited to hear about the updated standard model with that issue being fixed just to be kicked in the face by not being able to buy it in the US.
Yeah that’s what I heard, I only bought the Black OG, so I have no idea if they ever fixed the problem. I was under the impression that they did though.
Well then, here’s hoping the smaller N3DS gets announced over the weekend cause those faceplates are sexy.
What about Wii U’s? I always thought it was weird that Amazon suddenly stopped selling Nintendo systems.
No news yet — maybe they are slowly adding Nintendo’s stock?
So hopefully now, with having an online retailer like Amazon available, Nintendo will allow standard New3DS systems to be sold online in NA, if shelf issues at brick and mortar stores was ever a problem, who knows.
I’m pretty sure I could go on and buy a 3DS off of Amazon.com and they never stopped selling them, at least where I live (in the U.S). I remember they were selling the Majora’s Mask themed 3DS on Amazon and people were giving it terrible reviews, because Amazon wasn’t doing anything about the scalpers.
While you could buy it off of Amazon, it was being carried by individual sellers — not Amazon themselves. For instance, I can buy The Witcher book from Amazon right now, or I can get it from third-party sellers. For the past few years, the latter was the only option for Nintendo hardware.
