We had hints that it was happening and now it turns out that both Ryu and Roy will be added to the Super Smash Bros roster. I suspect this was all meant to be revealed tomorrow in the Super Smash Bros themed Direct, but somehow the videos have come out earlier than Nintendo had expected. Now that I think about it, my comment still has meaning to it. I mean, it was still leaked by somebody earlier than intended. It just wasn’t because someone got a hold of the footage and leaked it. However, whoever was in charge of releasing the update, is mainly at fault here.
I feel really bad for Sakurai. This might have been the main event of his little Smash Bros Direct and some assholes decided to ruin it. Seriously, Sakurai worked really hard on this game to the extent of working while physically injured, the gane releases and he still works on it despite the fact that he’s exhausted to add more characters for everybody and some assholes decide to spit in his face and trample on his hardwork by leaking this. It’s bullshit…

Think about it, he listed what could go wrong with adding him. Do you want less then what Ridley could offer ? A smaller version of him or Ridley being unable to fly ?

Ridley could’ve worked if Sakurai wanted it, look at the Project M Ridley mod, for a fan-project, it’s miles better than what Sakurai did to the character, it fits, and it looks good, again, Sakurai can go fuck himself for all I care.
Ridley would not work as a Super Smash Bros. character. He would either be like super OP, or a watered down weaker and suckier version of himself.
Also size is a big issue. Bowser is the biggest character in Super Smash Bros. Um, Ridley is WAY bigger than Bowser so how the fuck would that work?

It’s hilarious how you’re putting Ridley and Giga Bowser in the same sentence, it goes to show how clueless and ignorant Ridley detractors are, just like Bowser, ridley has constantly changed sizes throughout the Metroid series, and his size has nothing to with his character, if anything, he’s almost always the smallest boss in most Metroid games, he’s about being violent and having a no-holds-barred, brutal fighting style.
There aren’t any real issues with him being a characters and he’s got a lot of things to support him, he’s from a series that needs more representation, he’s one of the most iconic Nintendo villains of all time, with a roster lacking in the bad guys department, he’s one of the most requested characters, and he would bring a unique style to the game, mixing a heavy character with an air-based characters. It’s just that Sakurai hates Metroid and is too clouded by his own opinion to see how wrong he is, just like all the Ridley detractors.
Size wasn’t the only issue. It’s the fact that he would either be OP, or Sakurai would have to nerf him and he would be a weaker version of himself. It literally won’t work. I can see the appeal of Ridley, but it just won’t work. Ridley is best as one of the bosses of Super Smash Bros.

With SO many characters in this game, Nintendo and Sakurai is going to have a very hard time topping this game in the NEXT Smash Bros. game. Then again, if the next game had only 15 characters or so, and a STORY MODE, it would be better than these current versions. I still can’t believe there’s no story mode. And that they removed my favorite side-mode…..Break The Targets (the classic, fun one).
I think that an Adventure Mode, like in Melee would have been fantastic. That way, Sakurai’s fear that cutscenes will get uploaded onto Youtube will be gone as well.
Except Sakurai uploaded the only cutscenes in Smash 4 to the Internet himself: all the character reveal trailers.
I’d be willing to bet the real reason he didn’t make a story mode was simply time. He obly had 2.5 years to make two hlgames and he already worked nearly 24/7 to do it. There’s no way he could have added a story mode, let alone one that trumps Subspace Emissary.

Actually there are some older Street Fighter games that has been released on the Wii U Virtual Console for quite some time but I agree that Ryu is a surprise and does seem a bit out of place in the Smash Bros. universe although he is a fighter and in regards to Roy, I think his inclusion came from fan demand. I do agree that there’s way too many representatives from the Fire Emblem universe but perhaps this is Nintendo’s way of trying to make the Fire Emblem franchise more of a household name

I don’t get the hate for Ryu in Smash Bros, sure rarely have Street Fighter been on Nintendo Nintendo consoles but that wouldn’t be a definitive reason for a 3rd party’s inclusion. Sega & Nintendo has been rivals for years before the 2000s where they were forced to go 3rd party, Nintendo requested Sonic’s inclusion in Brawl but waited a while for permission delaying the game. Kojima begged for Snake to be in Melee but it was too late, years later Brawl was announced with Snake as an early reveal breaking the exclusive Nintendo roster. I can understand why Roy was included. That was mainly due to fan demand much like Lucas but the one that gets me is Ryu. I know he’s a natural born fighter but in the Smash Bros world he seems out of place. I’m glad and grateful that we’re getting new DLC but I’m not really that excited by either of these characters
