A lot of people were genuinely disappointed yesterday to find out that the Metroid title that they had all been hoping for didn’t appear. In its place we received Metroid Prime Federation Force, which wasn’t the game many were expecting. IGN caught up with Metroid Prime producer Kensuke Tanabe to find out what is going on with the Metroid Prime franchise as a whole during which Tanabe also discussed possible ideas for future games in the Metroid Prime series.
. “I said this at the beginning, but I’m not involved in the 2D Metroid games that [Yoshio] Sakamoto works on,” Tanabe said. “I still feel like there’s a little more work left for me to do in the Metroid Prime series. I can’t say when, but I want to make another one.”
“He’s actually chasing after Samus, and that’s where that game ends,” Tanabe said. “There’s still more I want to build around the story of Sylux and Samus. There’s something going on between them. I want to make a game that touches upon [it].”
“I’m also thinking that, in that eventual game between Sylux and Samus that might get made, that I wants to involve the [Galactic] Federation as well,” he said. “So it would be a good idea to release a game like Federation Forces to flesh out its role in the galaxy before moving on to that.”
Thanks, That Greyhound Guy

Well then do it! Forget what that hasbeen Miyamoto says or what not. Start the production then see what Iwata thinks of it.
It’s sad because they havent even started development yet — even though fans have been screaming it in their ears for years.
Make it a launch title for the NX.
Hey, Listen! … … Hey, Listen! … … … Nintendo? … Hey! Listen! … … Nintendo? … Nintendo!!! LISTEN!! HEY!!!! LISTENNN!!N1!A!1AAR!1!RR!!!RR!G1G!!G1!HH!!!!
……………………………. nintendo?
:””””””””””””””””(
Why…… why u don’t listen?
Then what’s stopping you, man? Go ahead and make it.
I’m giving Nintendo one last chance with the Wii U. If they don’t make a new Metroid game for Wii U in a maximum of 1 year and 1/2, I give up.
The problem is that it would take much longer than just 1 or 2 years, if tthey didn’t even start working on a new game yet. Following from what Tanabe said it doesn’t seem like a Metroid Prime title is in development right now (but there could still be a title which is not in the Prime Saga)
I am at a point where I just don’t even care anymore. (Maybe because I’m sleepy right now) If Nintendo is just gonna leave the Wii U like this, it makes me really angry, because it’s as if they didn’t even TRY to make the Wii U good.
A console is defined by the games available to it, not necessarily its specs. If the Wii U would have GOOD games, and revived previous IPs, I see no reason why people WOULDN’T want a Wii U. However, as it is now, you have SOME good games, but not the games that could define the Wii U.
Know what you mean… I have tons of great games for my WiiU, and with Devils Third, Starfox and Fatal Frame there are some new ones incoming. But for the most people those games aren’t as appealing as Bloodborne or Final Fantasy for example.
Reggie said the ‘overall topic’ of the presentation was Nintendos change, but it didn’t look like they learned anything or changed at all. Sometimes it seems they don’t understand that their core audience doesn’t want stuff like AC amiibo party. Of course there aremany younger players who like those stuff and I’m totally fine with it. They can release such games, but without neglecting their core audience. Give us cool exclusives, like Xenoblade, Mario Galaxy, Metroid(!!), or the third party ones like Fatal Frame, Bayonetta or Devils Third and all that stuff. Take some risks, try out some new IP’s, both mature and ‘family friendly’ ones, Splatoon is a good example how cool they can be.
Dammit Nintendo!
Seems like he might be hinting at a 2d Metroid (Shiggy said he wanted to see both). If they have the people behind “The Swapper” working on a direct sequel to “Super Metroid”, I would forgive no “Prime 4” until NX. I know that’s a pipe-dream, though.
In other words because it takes so long for then to make a Wii U game, if they started on it now, it may come out the same year NX launches. It’s too late for Wii u to get this. They wasted time with 3Ds and Amiibos.
You’re giving Nintendo ANOTHER chance? Wow… you’re too nice. This was the last straw for me.
Fuck you you made a huge fucking deal that i should give disney a chance but one bad E3 is the end of nintendo? F.U.C.K.Y.O.U.
What is Retro working on then? If it’s not Prime 4 then it has to be a main story Metroid.
This is what I fear the most. It indirectly implies that Retro is not working on Prime 4, and I don’t see why they would be developing a 2D Metroid. Yes, their DK games were very good, but they stated that they’d love to return to the Metroid franchise. Making a game in a completely different style is hardly a ‘return’, even if they’d technically be working the same IP.
its called trying something different they make the games they wanna make deal with it
I don’t think you replied to the post you wanted.
i didn’t sorry bro thanks for telling me XD
I have a feeling that they are going to make metroid 5
That hope is my last holdout. I really want to see a true 2D Metroid if we’re not getting a console “Prime” this generation.
Jeah, I would also like to know it. After all that teasing from them I was really disappointed that their new game wasn’t shown. It even hasn’t to be Metroid, there are so much other things they could work on, or a completely new IP.
The good name of Metroid has been unjustly sullied by Federation Force, there is no place for it in a series of mostly excellent games: Super, Fusion, the Prime Trilogy etc. This Corruption sequel Tanabe is talking about is what should’ve been made all along. As a Metroid fan I’d crave to play that game. I’m still bewildered that Nintendo would actually decide to make a shitty spinoff of Metroid when they must surely know the fans would be against it, considering that many fans (myself included) are still trying to forget the travesty that was Other M.
IF Tanabe does eventually make it, I won’t forgive Nintendo for what they’ve done to one of the finest franchises in gaming, however it will go a long way to helping me forget about their mistakes.
Other M was fun to me. The story was kinda lame, but the game play was awesome
Iwata: “We’re listening and understand your frustration and we’ll do better next year.”
Tanabe: “I really want to see another Metroid game.”
Nintendo in general: “We reallly want more 3rd party games on the Wii U. So here’s Just Dance 2016!”
All bark, no bite.
They can’t ruin the surprise, I mean the Retro Studios has to be working on Metroid Prime 4. If not…. I’ll be so disappointed.
They will be working on Donkey Kong Land Returns specifically for the new 3DS
Not buying it. Enough with the cockteasing. Either you do it, or you don’t, not this ‘I have this idea for the franchise’ kind of statements that lead to wild speculation. I’ll believe a new game is coming when it’s officially announced and not one second before.
“There’s still more I want to build around the story of Sylux and Samus. There’s something going on between them”
Oh come on, no lovey-dovey stuff in the Metroid Franchise, why cant you just make a Metroid game focused on Samus like the old ones, is it that hard? Metroid is not supposed to be a love story.
He means a conflict. After all, Sylux hates the Federation and Samus, so it’s sort of obvious he means conflict, not love.
(Didn’t mean to sound rude. Sorry if I did)
I see, I thought he was talking about love, so my mistake, I totally misunderstood the message. Thanks for making it clear. I just got carried away by the idea of a Romance story with Samus and to me that would be the last straw after that awful pseudo-metroid game.
Regards!
>>>Clearly you’re not a Metroid fan nor know anything about it>>>
>>>Now everyone can give it a rest when it comes to who’s ship it was>>>
>>>Sylux will avenge me>>>
No sylux and samus are in some type of robo romance. Next metroid title will touch on that because the dumbasses at nintendo don’t give a fuck anymore.
nintendo hasn’t been involved with a metroid game in awhile u should be blaming Retro
Ok put it on the Wii U and you can make it the way you want to I don’t care nothing about the series but for the people who do want this make it happen for them.
You just have to read between the lines. The way I see it, a Metroid Prime sequel is already in the works, but Tanabe can’t talk about it due to NDAs, so he is only talking about it indirectly, stating that he “has ideas” for the game and that Federation Force is meant as an appetizer for the game.
I am glad I am not the only one who understood it this way. We may be wrong, but it’s one way to look at it.
“I still feel like there’s a little more work left for me to do in the Metroid Prime series. I can’t say when [will I make another one], but I want to make another one.”
Tanabe wouldn’t be talking about what to include in the next Prime game if one was already in development. Co-developing with Retro sounds possible if that was the case, But I don’t think it’s that lightly. The way I see it, he’s just stating that he’ll like return to the franchise in the future, just not now. This hints at Retro developing something different from a Prime game, since they’d probably be helped by SPD3.
“but I’m not involved in the 2D Metroid games that [Yoshio] Sakamoto works on”
It feels more like he’s splipped about Sakamoto and SPD1 being involved with 2D Metroid again, if anything.
Yes, I think you’re right in regards to the 2D Metroid. It’s just mentioned there, while it has no connection to the rest of the paragraph. But until I get conclusive evidence, no hopes are going up.
If true, Sakamoto being involved with Metroid again is just bad news. Let’s hope they have the courage to keep him on a short leash this time. I’m waiting for the next (hopefully soon) Nintendo Direct in which they can redeem themselves. Either that, or announce something at Gamescom.
Sakamoto is Nintendo’s George Lucas.
He created the series, he was responsible for Super Metroid and Fusion, we love him for it, but yeah, don’t let him be near a screenplay or script or actual dialogue writing.
He’s Nintendo’s George Lucas, but for different reasons:
He takes all the credit for the games he directed when in reality he just had a very talented team backing him up each time. And he has gone crazier with age, too.
Right Sakamoto is bad for Metroid just like 343 is bad for Halo right, am I saying it right you Prime faggot? You don’t deserve that Zero Mission avatar since you like to make fun of the series creator. As it stands right now I would rather play that piece of shit Other M over this pile of dog shit called Federation Force from Tanabe. You Prime fans make me sick your is the main reason we haven’t got Metroid fusion sequel in over 13 years b/c all you want is just another failed Halo ripoff instead of a Metroid that goes back to its roots. Sakamoto was responsible for Metroid NES, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid Zero Mission, the games he made and directed with his own team. If you still have a stick up ass b/c Nintendo hurt your Samus Waifu then please seek some professional mental help she’s just a game character.
GUNPEI YOKOI was responsible for those games.
YOKOI.
NOT SAKAMOTO.
Two 2D games were released at the same time as the Prime series. You don’t have a point there about Prime killing the 2D games. If anything people like you not buying the games did that.
Besides that, you are defending Sakamoto while bashing Other M, which only proves you don’t even have a good understanding of the franchise you so vehemently defend. Prime fans hate Other M, and it’s only loved by some 2D apologists.
I actually prefer the 2D games, your outrage is so ridiculous from my perspective.
Maybe you should reread history idiot without Sakamoto Metroid would have never even been a thing. Gunpei just made sure everyone was working. Gunpei wanted to cancel Super Metroid if it wasn’t for Sakamoto stopping him, the greatest Metroid game ever made wouldn’t have existed, proven Prime fanboy.
Nice sources. Gunpei didn’t want to make any more Metroid titles AFTER Super because he thought the trilogy was complete.
You have to read between the lines.
He’s damage controling for Nintendo to try and control the forest fire of raging fans.
Nothing is in the works, sorry. :/
First Link doesn’t want to respond to me, now Nintendo?? What’s going on…?
>>>Back in the bottle with you, I’ll let you out when the new Link needs you>>>
Back? I’ve never been in a bottle for my entire life… I demand answers… NINTENDOOOOO! HEY! LISTEN!
>>>Then time to try out this lovely Phazon bottle I’ve made just for you>>>
sweet
Thanks
I like it here :-)
Wait… I was tricked… :C
>>>You’ll be mutated into something similar to this, except you will retain your fairy powers>>>

No. That’s a bullshit excuse to produce that garbage. Instead, if they had any fucking brains left, SHOULD HAVE MADE THE ACTUAL GAME WITH THAT PLOT INSTEAD!
Because nobody like you Navi. lol JK
:p

If Nintendo was smart, Metroid Prime 4 will take place after Metroid Fusion. Maybe Sylux hates the Galactic Federation so much because he was the guinea pig of the same people that were responsible for the clones in Other M & the Metroids in Metroid Fusion. Maybe he knows that the truth of the Galactic Federation is they wanted the Space Pirates wiped out, so they themselves could use the Metroids for their own evil means. Before the Space Pirates were wiped out, the Galactic Federation was just the lesser of two evils.
Metroid Prime Universe and Metroid Universe are different didn’t you hear it in the trailer yourself? Also fuck Tanabe bring back Sakamoto and his 2d Metroid team to make Metroid Dread, that is the sequel I want to see, Samus going awol against the galactic federation.
““I’m also thinking that, in that eventual game between Sylux and Samus that might get made, that I wants to involve the [Galactic] Federation as well,” he said. “So it would be a good idea to release a game like Federation Forces to flesh out its role in the galaxy before moving on to that.””
A shame that NONE of these so-called ‘fans’ can at least take this Prime entry as, in anime terms, ‘filler’ if anything. They rather immediately dismiss it rather than call it a “Prime” game.
Typical fanboy: ‘Ugh! No Samus? No buy! No sales! Might as well be Dragonball GT, that is, non-existent.”
