The recently released Minecraft Wii U title has already climbed its way to number 9 in the eShop charts for Japan.
On the Nintendo.co.jp website, the title is number 9 in the ‘software sold so far’ download purchase rankings, meaning it has surpassed Mother 2, Super Smash Bros Wii U, and Super Mario 3D World in eShop downloads.
That’s not too bad for a game that was only released on the eShop last week; it will be interesting to see if it climbs up further in the coming weeks.

Don’t people besides me find it strange how Wii U and its software is making a complete turn around? One minute it’s dead next minute it’s selling better than usual. Why is that?
Yea is so weird.. Guess is because Wii U is finally getting good games next year, And Nintendo is doing good advertising bundles and such. Wait until Pokken Tournament gets released in Japan and rest of the world, is gonna sell like hotcakes I hope Nintendo releases NX in 2019 2016 is way to early

I agree. Releasing the NX 3 years later would be a complete mistake because you’ll be giving your competition ample time to copy your idea. 2017 would be the rightful time for the NX to be released

I love my Wii U, but I want them to make new hardware, advance technology. Let’s all face it the Wii U is behind in technology and not just graphics wise. It’s a great console (my fav this gen) but it needs an upgrade. The NX is the next step, it’s keeping all the things I love about the Wii U (except maybe not the gamepad😔) and giving it an upgrade, and adding new cool (hopefully) things to enjoy. It’s like a new phone. Sure I loved my old one, but don’t you like getting a new one, one that keeps the things you liked about the old one, and makes it better, upgrades it? That’s why I want the NX to come out. I want the upgrade, the fine tuned. And not just graphics.
I have an XB1. It solves all your gaming problems. I wouldn’t wait for the NX. Nintendo will always be playing catch-up since the Wii.
But, you gotta do what you gotta do batman! There are some great XB1 deals by the way.
Rather have a PS4. Not big on Xbox. A Nintendo System and either a PC or a Sony System is the way to go. The only game I care about on the XBONE is Halo 5, and I can live without it. Plus I don’t care how advanced the other consoles are because they don’t have the games I want. I want Nintendo to be advance so I can better enjoy my Nintendo Exclusives. I do want a PS4 to go with it for the tiny amount of exclusives, and their third parties, but I still would mostly game on my Nintendo System.
Fair enough. I’m a fan of the exclusives. Scalebound, Everspace, Mass Effect 4. To each their own!
Well I’m a fan of PS4 exclusives. Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Horizon: Zero Dawn could be cool (that was the correct name right?) Now if the PS4 would hurry up and get full backwards compatibility I might buy one. And not that stupid “backwards compatibility” that the Xbone has, real BC where I can play any game from PS1-4 on my Sony console.
I’m perfectly okay with PlayStation Now. It’s actually cheaper than going out & buying every single game for the PS3 that I want to play because I missed them. I can beat games pretty quickly so I can play around 10-15 games in just 3 months, so around 50 bucks for 3 months for the service is awesome for me. No real rush in seeing backwards compatibility from this guy.

What games is it getting next year? Serious question, because pesonally, I can’t really think of anything else than Zelda that has the potential to make a big difference. Pokken could push it too, but I’m not certain if it will do all that well in Japan, considering it’s available in arcades already. Just seems hard to believe that a significant amount of people would go out of their way to purchase an entire console to play a game they could just play in arcades. I’m guessing it has better chances in the West, actually.
Star Fox, Zelda, Pokken; that’s all I know of for next year, Zelda doesn’t have a set date, but the other two are early in the year. With all the games that just came out at the end of 2015, they should be enough to continue strong sales for a few months at least.
Oh yea, forgot about Star Fox. But to be honest, the way it’s looking right now, the WiiU is going to have a hard time in 2016. I mean, look at us talking about a whopping 3 games it’s gonna get in the entire year. The XB1 and PS4 each have like 30+ games scheduled over the next 12 months. And even though Pokken and Star Fox are coming early next year, there’s also games like Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank (both planned very close to Star Fox’ release date), Gravity Rush, Quantum Break, Dark Souls coming in the first 4 months of 2016. Can Pokken and Starfox really compete against those?
Nintendo urgently needs to announce some big games for the WiiU, because the way I see it, it’s really not looking good at all for it right now.
They don’t really have to compete with those other games. They just have to show that it’s worth having a Wii U right now. Plenty of people have more than one console nowadays. The U’s days of trying to ‘compete’ with other consoles are long gone.
But you’re right, there are no other games for the rest of 2016. Nintendo needs to announce a few more titles if they want sales to continue. I have a strong feeling though that they’re main focus in 2016 will be on the 3DS and NX, not Wii U.
As long as the WiiU is on the same market as the PS4 and XB1, it is competing with them. They’re all home consoles, they all target the same audience for the most part, and they belong to the same generation of home consoles. It’s not really an option to choose whether or not it’s competing with them.
And showing people it’s worth having a WiiU is not enough, they have to show them it’s worth having the WiiU and its games over the other two options. While it’s true that there are many people who own more than one of the three available consoles, it’s also a reality that not everyone can afford doing that, and there’s way more potential consumers who don’t own any of the three yet, which is why it’s important for Nintendo to give those people reasons to choose the WiiU over the other two. Plus, it’s important for them to show those who already do own a WiiU it’s worth keeping, so they won’t end up selling theirs to opt for one of the other two options instead. And sadly, 3 games for an entire year does not do any of that, especially not if the competition will be offering about 10x the amount of games during the same period of time.
I surely hope Nintendo will show some more support for the WiiU in 2016, because honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if things turned out as you think, with Nintendo focusing on the 3DS and the NX in preparation of its launch (which I don’t really think will happen in 2016, btw), while neglecting the WiiU in the process. I really hope they’ll prove us wrong though.
Well obviously products within the same markets compete with each other to an extent. Companies do have a choice however on how much they compete with companies in the same market. For instance when the Wii came out, it was competing with PS3 and XB360 to the extent that they were video game consoles of the same generation. However, Nintendo went entirely its own way by introducing a new way to play. Now, when Microsoft and Sony released the Kinect and Move respectively, they were more directly competing with Nintendo by releasing a product that was closer in execution to the Wii. In this sense, 360 and PS3 were more direct competitors to the Wii at the end of the generation than at the beginning.
For the Wii U, I didn’t say it would be ‘enough’ to show that U was worth it. (Frankly I don’t think anything will be enough) I was just trying to say that at this point, that’s all Nintendo can hope to do. Let’s face it, it’s a bit too late in the game for Wii U to try to directly compete with the others, and it’s been behind the others each year since launch. NX will be coming out within the next couple of years. That’s the system that will be a direct competitor.
My feeling about Nintendo’s 2016 strategy comes from the fact that they haven’t announced any new games for 2016 other than the 3, and there is no indication that they’ll announce something soon. Even if they announce new games in a few months, they won’t be out for another 6 months to a year afterwards; and with NX expected to come out by 2017 at the latest, those games can’t be expected to do exceptionally well. Having said that, Nintendo did say that they plan to continue supporting U after NX launches, so hopefully I’m wrong.
that might be one reason or one of many reasons as i should have said, i guess the other reason is its cheaper and has a ton of bundle options like mk8+dlc+splatoon wii u bundle for $300 usd, $330-ish usd with tax. there might be other reasons we dont know, i doubt its because of smash bros and its dlc

This is Nintendo’s window to grab gamers attention. I’m good though. I am loving Black ops 3, Xenoblade X is just outstanding, and with Everspace and Scalebound around the corner… I am set with games.
It could be their chance. But I don’t recall many big Nintendo games coming out soon. I know Xenoblade just came out though. Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront aren’t the best but they are selling pretty well. And we all know that CoD is still a big money maker. I don’t really see Nintendo pulling gamers away from those unless they got something similar that can compete. Unless you want to count Splatoon I guess…
Yeah. The lack of a story mode that ties everything together or a campaign mode in Star Wars Battlefront has strongly made me lose interest. I might keep it to play the game every once in awhile but I’m strongly thinking about selling it at Gamestop in the next few days. Star Wars Battlefront is sadly just Nintendo Land but with Star Wars… I guess having an online co-op/competitive mode just isn’t good enough to keep my interest intact & apparently wouldn’t have helped me keep interest in Nintendo Land…
Good thing the game actually came with my Darth Vader PS4 & Star Wars Dualshock Controller which is definitely worth 400 bucks. I consider the game to have been 100% free as I think the PS4 & the controller themselves are definitely worth 400 bucks alone. So as far as I’m concerned, I’ll make a tiny little profit if I can sell it for at least 20 bucks.
I also wanted space battles. :/
It’s GORGEOUS tho… But No campaign, little to no space battles.. It just kinda gets boring. Idk, maybe my expectations were too high.
That’s what we both get for having our expectations high for a Star Wars game being overseen by EA of all people. :/ Hopefully the survey I took for Star Wars Battlefront the other day is taken into consideration & wasn’t just a “We’re pretending to care what you didn’t like about the game & want improved for the next one.”
I know the NX is on a totally different platform from the Wii series but it would be nice if the NX could operate the Gamepad controller. But if it’s costly then just move on. But it is wiser to not have anything to do with the Wii.for the NX though. So i understand.
