HMV is delighted to announce that its flagship store in London’s Oxford Street will play host to the Official Midnight Launch Event of Nintendo’s hugely anticipated new home console – Wii U.
With much of the UK’s stock of Wii U consoles in high demand through pre orders, HMV have channeled extra stock into its flagship store so that customers will be able to purchase their Wii U on the night, so a large turnout of enthusiastic gamers are expected to attend when the doors open at 11.00pm on Thursday night, 29th November.
Additionally, the first 100 customers queuing to attend the event will be entitled to a free copy of New Super Mario Bros U as well as another Wii U game of their choice from a selection that will be offered. The next 100 people in line will be entitled to a £5 gift voucher for redemption on the night. *NB This voucher will only be valid against Wii U hardware and software. The first 500 people in the queue will receive a Wii U goody bag and there will also be opportunities to win Wii U related prizes during the evening.
To lend further excitement, Ubisoft and Nintendo will be demonstrating ZombiU *, Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros U during the build up to midnight, when the console and associated games officially go on sale. Guests will also be able to sample a number of Wii U titles during the evening, while a range of Nintendo promotional characters, from New Super Mario Bros U and ZombiU games, will be on hand to add even more atmosphere to the evening . * NB Zombi U is PEGI rated 18, so demonstrations/sales to any customers aged under-18 will not be possible.
Disney Interactive has confirmed that Epic Mickey: The Power of Two will be a Wii U launch title when the console launches in Europe on November 30th. The Wii U version of the game is being developed by Heavy Iron, the creator of games based on The Incredibles, Wall-E and Up.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed III, Just Dance 4, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013, Marvel Avengers: Battle For Earth, Rayman Legends, ZombiU, and Sports Connection, will all be available to purchase on November 30th in Europe. EA has confirmed at this years EA Summer Showcase that Bioware’s controversial Mass Effect 3 will be launching alongside the Wii U this holiday season. As we previously reported, the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 will come with the additional DLC that graced the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.
US retail emporium GameStop has apparently received marketing material for Wii U which state which games will launch alongside the console this holiday season. It looks as though we’re getting Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros U for launch, but Pikmin 3 has been relegated to launch window status. Which games take your fancy?
The Wii U will launch with what Nintendo describes as extremely rich titles. Nintendo has always reiterated that they’ve learned their lesson with the Nintendo 3DS launch which was criticised by gamers and journalists alike. We will see the Wii U launch line-up for the first time at this years E3 event in June. Nintendo revealed earlier today that we will have to wait to hear information about the Wii U release date and pricing after the event.
Shane Shatterfield, Editor in Chief of Gametrailers has announced in today’s episode of Invisible Walls that the Wii U launch line-up is looking “pretty damn good”. Whether Shatterfield is privy to insider information from Nintendo remains to be seen, but it’s certainly encouraging if it’s true. Which games would you like to see at the Wii U launch?
