The unexpected collaboration between Team Ninja and Nintendo is most definitely a success.
Many gamers out there were shocked when Nintendo announced that they were co-developing the next edition of the highly revered Metroid franchise with Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden developer, Team Ninja.
Thankfully I can say the fruits of both teams labour have paid off with an action packed adrenaline fueled rush that at times can feel relentless but always keeps the player entertained and effectively glued to the screen.
The controls at first feel rather strange as the game requires only the Wii remote without the nunchuck accessory. When in third person mode you use the Wii remote as if it was a NES pad you then point the Wii remote at your screen to enter first person mode. As I said it initially feels strange but you’ll soon become accustomed to the controls.
Graphically the game is one of the finest looking titles I’ve encountered on the Nintendo Wii only challenged by the sublime Super Mario Galaxy 2. The game feels exceptionally polished and it’s readily apparent that Team Ninja have seriously packed some punches when it comes to pushing the graphical capabilities of the Wii.
This is definitely a Metroid game at heart that successfully manages to fuse together elements of the Metroid Prime series and Super Metroid to create something that doesn’t feel tacked together but something elegant in its own right. I honestly can’t wait to see what both teams can deliver next.
9/10

It may not be the best Metroid around, but it certainly applies for the one with the most varied gameplay and even the most fun.
If it wasn’t for general Wii hate and some Metroid fanboys/fangirls using it to proselytize radical feminism in the game midia, it’d be a serious candidate to GotY.
I agree, Other M is probably the most fun out of all the Metroid games.
I dunno; I just prefer it MUCH more when Samus was a tough, soft-spoken bounty hunter, rather than some overly emotional teenage girl who wore her heart on her sleeve and wimped out whenever possible. Just me.
They’re probably gonna retcon that, though.
Plus, I miss the days when you could switch between beams, and doors didn’t just give way without resistance. It just didn’t seem.. Metroid-y enough.
not to try to rain on your parade but
here’s my opinion on it:

Seriously, I have the game but I didn’t finish it already becouse my days are hard at work and college (X_X). I loved the game, I’m a gamer who plays Super Metroid since I was 10, I have all the Metroid Prime’ss and this one… Was an EPIC WIN experiment! Trying to be the most critical possible for a fan, I give this game a 9.6!
Thaks Nintendo and Team Ninja.
Nice job…
this game was awsome i played for so long i beat 100% it in the first 3 days now its hard mode >:)
I havent played it all, but I’m not a big fan of this game, I think the switching between 3rd and first person isn’t smooth or quick enough and sometimes doesn’t even work, although i don’t know if this was just my friends wii i was playing it on. I agree though, the graphics are some of the best from a wii game.
Yes, you should finely tune how the sensor bar is pointed, and also the settings. Mine is sitting on top of the tv, and is pointed down slightly towards my seat. I’m not using the stand, by the way. Also, I believe the settings on my Wii are odd. I think my Wii thinks the sensor bar is below the tv, even though it is above. I can’t really remember. You’ll just have to play with the settings and position of the sensor bar to get the best results. I had no problems at all with the perspective changing, or aiming.
This game is original, beautiful and most important: fun! I hate the negative comments from many people. The average review score is around 8.5, which is amazing, but still people are nagging. This is the best metroid experience yet in my opinion!
Speak for yourself. To give credit where due, though, they DID do a pretty good job with the graphics… And Samus’ new armour DOES look cool… But there’s no denying that they should’ve kept Samus as she was. I’m not saying Other M is the Antichrist… It’s just that they made improvements where there were none to be made.
I could not believe the score that G4 gave it. It actually made me a little angry. I wonder if they even played the game before giving it the horrible score they gave it. I absolutely loved it, and would actually like to see a sequel from Team Ninja. Heck, there were so many references to Fusion that I kind of wouldn’t mind seeing a re-telling of Fusion in Other M style.
