Tomonobu Itagaki, former head of Team Ninja announced that Devils Third a game for Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 could be scalable. He was then asked if he meant that it would be possible to port it across to the Nintendo 3DS but instead Itagaki said:
“More than that, although I can’t say this easily because I don’t have any information, it’s possible that Nintendo could release a higher end console. Something like that.”

Interesting. I wonder if they really will release a new console next Christmas? I really hope so.
I’m sure it won’t be that soon. I mean, the Nintendo DS came in 2004, but the Wii showed up 2 years later. I’m thinking it’d be the next 1 – 2 years the next console would show up.
Interesting… could very well be a cryptic message. Maybe he learnt from that Mortal Kombat dude that said they have a PSP2 in the house? Or maybe I’m just LOOKING for news about a new console. xD
So cryptic indeed. Hope they wait. I can’t afford games for the systems I have now.
Same here -_-
We all know that Nintendo is very capable in that area. It’s just that the standard home console (set by other companies) is much higher (FIVE HUNDRED NINETY NINE US DOLLARS) than it used to be, and it’s obvious that Nintendo wants to stay affordable.
Standard home console PRICE. My bad.
RIIIIIDGE RACER! lol
Ahem… added Blu ray and achievements, better graphics would be sick.
Blu ray is highly unlikely since I believe it is developed and partially owned by Sony.
if samsung, LG and others…can have blueray, nintendo can to, also sony has nintendo’s motion controlers…
there are laws, and companies must be able to buy technology from other companies, if a new nintendo comes, it must have blueray, or something better :)
Sony doesn’t have nintendo’s motion controllers, they replicated in a way to suit their own console. I’m a huge nintendo fan but I can’t agree with that point. And with regards to blu ray, it isn’t a necessity, as we have seen with the wii it doesn’t have a DVD player and is still the biggest home selling console of the top 3. And blu ray isn’t cheap so that’s another factor that would imply they would not take that on within the next couple years because nintendo always make their prices affordable for the average consumer.
Well, it’s not that Nintendo couldn’t use Blu-ray in their next console, but that they would prefer to not use it, especially it being a product of Sony.
Although I believe this is true, I like my Wii the way it is, and I hope that if Nintendo decide to upgrade, it’ll be a whole new console. I don’t have the funds to buy an upgraded Wii & the 3DS.
I see Nintendo using cards (like flashcard) or their own patented discs (like hologram discs) before using blu-ray
When we were little we thought the N64 man nothing could look better than this, Today what do we got the 360, 3DS, Wii, ps3…. but really the war between video games will never end and capabilities of a home console will never end it will always grow to become something more, something smooth yet real.
I doubt it.
Nintendo has said many times that they have no plans to release a new home console anytime soon. The Wii was built to stand the test of time.
Nintendo will update the wii, it’ll just take time to do it. I remember them or somebody saying that their testing how The New wii will run
@ Awesome_Guy – It’s not that it was built to stand the test of time (in fact, it’s hardware is that of a PS2’s). Based on the lifespan of previous Nintendo consoles, the Wii will die in 2012/13. Ninty’s got more than enough time to prepare their next console (which they’ve been working on since Wii was even announced).
The Wii is actually slightly more powerful than the original Xbox, which was about twice as powerful as a Playstation 2.
Nintendo has been at the top for 4 years in the video game market and they can’t go back to being at the bottom with the Game Cube. The 360 is about to become the better selling platform out of all 3 with its $200 price range and HD graphics. Nintendo is going to start losing sales in the next year so a new console has to be ready by next year at the latest.
He says he has “no information” and “it’s possible” that Nintendo “could” release a higher end console. I’m pretty sure he’s just speculating. I don’t think this means anything.
This is probably the third time I’ve heard something about Nintendo’s upcoming home console. But didn’t Nintendo say that their next console wouldn’t come out until 2012 or after? Is it really this normal for people to be speculating about a console at least two years in advance? I mean yeah there hasn’t been that much speculation but still.
Why do people care so much on wii? I gave up on it just becuZ so many of the games are just compilations of mini-games kids games and/or party games. Nothing with depth or a real storyline. Just colorful bopping around. And the graphics for wii arent even good.
They should make more powerful, yes they sold twice xbox360 n ps3 but we all now that they won because if casual gamers, I have all consoles n I didn’t play anything on wii cept Zelda :(
I just hope that to be soon!
And a Very powerful console, such as the Nintemdo 3DS n_n
