An attendee from the famous Tsutaya retailer in Shibuya has rather generously provided details on the highly anticipated Star Fox 64 3D. The game is currently scheduled to be released in Japan on July 14th. Nintendo UK and Nintendo of America have yet to disclose exactly when we’re seeing the game in the West, but it shouldn’t be too long before we find out. Here’s a few choice Star Fox 64 3D Tweets from the Japanese retailer:
- The game has 3DS mode, N64 mode and Battle mode
- In 3DS mode, you use the gyro sensor to control your ship
- Battle mode supports four players
- Battle mode will support download play
- The game will not have online play via Wi-Fi Connection
- During combat, your face is shown as an icon, allowing for easy identification of who’s who.

disappointed in them not making use of wi-fi
Might be just a rumour
It’s the 64 version remake right? If so no wifi makes sense
You’re joking, right? That’s why it’s called a remake. New features and improvements.
Command’s online was so much fun; I’m very disappointed.
Yeah, this is Nintendo’s ‘plan to boost online features’ right?
I saw this in Nintendo Power 2 months ago… can’t believe no one reported on it… sent emails to certain sites but they didn’t respond.
If the game supports four-player battle mode, then why won’t it have wi-fi functionality?
btw, it’s ship not ‘shiop’. lol
Gyro sensor to control the ship? Looking forward to do a summersault and a barrelroll.
lmao, i just spun around for the barrel roll and cant wait to try it out xD and about wifi…who really cares? battle mode on n64 was boring as hell.
How will the gyro sensor work at all with the 3d if you can only view it from a very particular angle?
Move with it. :|
so when I have to tilt this thing forward, I get to levitate off my feet right over it?
Tilting it up and down will not affect the 3ds. You can use the gyroscope at the same time as the analogue stick as well.
This sounds really good! I know my brother would love this game.
No wi-fi? Definitely skipping it then.
I already bought it for the Virtual Console and I have the original on N64. So I don’t need it again; but online matches could have made it worth it.
Too bad; another opportunity wasted Nintendo. I’m becoming very disappointed in them
•In 3DS mode, you use the gyro sensor to control your ship
– This sounds like a horrible idea to control a ship. I can just see it now, people bouncing their arms around trying to do a barrel roll, and ending up bumping into any poor bystander next to them. Hopefully, the gyro control will work out better then that, but I’ll wait to see how it turns out. It would be better if there was an option to switch, because I’m sure the gyro won’t offer that good of control. And no, I don’t want to use the n64, that defeats the purpose of experiencing the game in 3D.
•The game will not have online play via Wi-Fi Connection
– FAIL!!! This kills it for me. Unless this changes, I’ll either skip it entirely, or buy it used from someone off Amazon . Nintendo, you REALLY messed this one up. This is a big reason the Wii needed improvement, and you STILL didn’t get it right??? There’s regular ds games with online play, why the hell would you not offer it on THIS game?? So much for bringing sales numbers back up on the 3ds.
Man.. Hopefully the 3ds shop will sell ‘AR tissues’ when it launches. I can’t believe how much everyone cries.
Wewt… another installment of the same game I bought 12 years ago *twirls fingers* i’ve already beaten it on the N64… downloaded it on the Wii AND even played it on the project 64 emulator… why the heck do i want to spend 40 more dollars on another remake (not to mention I still need to buy the 3DS)
Honestly… I was very excited about this game. That is, until I learned there wasn’t going to be online multiplayer. That was one of my favorite things about command. I could play with others Via Wi-Fi and earn a rank… That’s what I wanted to do on the N64! I had high hopes for this game, but now… why bother getting it? Sure you get to move the DS to control the ship, but honestly that makes it seem like more work then playing it to me.
It’s funny how my opinion changes from ‘it’s a great game’ when I’m excited about it, to “It’s not even worth buying” when i learned it won’t have WiFi battles
It’s really bitter sweet. I’m glad Starfox is getting more attention because I love the games, but why couldn’t they have bought another server to host battles. I mean command worked out okay and the lag can’t get any worse then what Brawl had…
