Nintendo policy seemingly prevents Game-Key Cards getting full-cart reprint

Canadian retailer Video Games Plus previously wrote a now-deleted social media message that a Nintendo policy is preventing them from giving Game-Key Card games a full cartridge reprint. Video Games Plus says they have been asking Nintendo for a long time to allow them to get existing Game-Key Card titles reprinted as full-on-cart versions, but it is simply not happening due to a Nintendo policy. In a second now-deleted message VGP says “there are legit reasons for this policy to be in place at the moment.”

“We annoy them all the time. When it comes to Game-Key Cards, all the publishers know exactly where VGP stands. Unfortunately, we don’t see much changing with most of the bigger publishers. As we’ve stated many times, we’d actively try to get existing Game-Key Card titles reprinted as full-on-cart versions, but at the moment, there’s a Nintendo policy preventing that. That said, we’ll keep pushing, keep asking questions, and keep annoying them.”

“Nintendo is not intentionally stopping publishers just for the sake of it, there are legit reasons for this policy to be in place at the moment.”

Thanks to those who sent this in.

  1. Weird, like I can sort of get it. Forcing people to rebuy a physical cartridge if they already own the game key card would be a bad move for any game. But some games would benefit from being fully physical like pokopia.
