Nintendo Wii U: Ratchet And Clank Developer Insomniac May Develop For Wii U

Insomniac CEO Ted Price has revealed to Industry Gamers that the former Sony development studio have been considering developing for Wii U. Insomniac are the team behind the acclaimed Ratchet and Clank franchise and Resistance series on the PlayStation 3. Their efforts would certainly be more than welcome on the Wii U.

“Since we haven’t talked about a release date, I don’t know if it’s too late or not [to bring Overstrike to Wii U as well]. You never know,” he told us. “For now, what we’re talking about though is that Overstrike is going to be out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.”

“I was surprised. I wasn’t expecting a handheld controller of that size, and I wasn’t expecting a touch screen, so I think all of us saw a lot of opportunity in terms of how we could use that second screen with an HD screen at the same time.”

He continued, “All of our designers and anybody on our team, I think their first thought is, ‘How could we use this to enhance our games in some way?’ Since every game is designed differently, there’s always a different opportunity. I don’t think, one size fits all when you’re talking about a controller like that. It’s got to fit the game that you’re making. We continue to be surprised by how people are using Move and Kinect and it’s a nice part of one’s toolbox.”

  1. Seriously…. How can WiiU fail… Yet another AAA developer wanting to create games for the console. Now I see why Microsoft is the first to be force to release their next console before they want to.

    1. No kidding. From all that I’ve seen, the Wii U is going to start of strong and stay strong with its already-good first party games and all the third party support it’ll get. Add that to better internet and a more powerful system than any existing console and you got a winning formula. This is going to be a good generation for Nintendo if all goes as planned!

  2. i have a feeling with all these third party companies loving the wii u and 3DS, this coming console generation should be an interesting one!

    1. It’s kind of funny because all these Nintenfags said they’re happy playing just the same old Mario, Zelda, Pikachu, Kirby’s epic yawn, ect. And said they didn’t need third party games, when they realized most third party developers always turn their backs on Ninty continuously.

Keep your word, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME or any other like Metal Gear Solid, Okami, etc. just stick to your regular Nintendo Mario games you so love.

      Have fun. ^_~

      1. Wow this guy ismad we are not getting a ps3. Aww it will be ok. No one ever liked Sony anyway. Plus these guys may have to step there game up. Nintendo gamers like skill based game play.

Another thing I just though up is they could always make DLC that has new features for the wiiu later like even redoing the whole game play of the game. Or adding wiiu quest. Could be very cool.

      2. its true, ive bin a fan of nintendo since snes era, but some ppl cant make up there mind. first its “its not about the graphics” then its “the graphics are going to be better than 360 and ps3!!”, come on man decide! I now I’m on another topic but you get it.

  3. I don’t know if they are a triple-A developer. We will see how their Wii U offerings match up against Mario and first-party stuff. If they can at least match SNES-era Rareware quality we’ll know we’ve got a gem on our hands.

            1. Nintendo kicked out rare for a reason. Why would they buy them back when they don’t have potential anymore

              1. Nintendo sold rare because they owned 49% of them. Then microsoft bought the remaining 51%. since MS had the majority nintendo decided to sell the rest to MS since there is not much point in them owning part of a company that is controled by a competitor.

      1. LOL… really… Rare has become that fat kid in the family that is embarrassing to the parents. That sale was the best thing Nintendo did… Rare is such a dead weight.

What i would love to hear announced sometime soon, is nintendo getting some up coming developer that specialize in games that will challenge GT and Forza franchise. Nintendo has nothing (don’t you dare mention mario kart… that is not the same and yes I love mario kart) in that category that can complete. That market space is owned by Microsoft and Sony…

        1. The car sim thing is boring. It was like a fad sort of like final fantasy being a movie game. Now if you could build your engine and design the body or even use fuel cells or other tech that would be fun.

    1. Oh, and I forgot to say this: if Mario sales is your baseline, the only triple-A developers in the world today besides Nintendo are EA Sports, Rockstar and Infinity Ward/whoever Activision puts behind Call of Duty. Only Madden, GTA, Fifa and CoD command the same level of sales as the biggest Mario games.

  4. Considering Overstrike is at heart a cooperative game, I’m sure they’ll find lots of ways to take advantage of that controller, even if in the end multiplayer on Wii U is indeed limited to one such controller and four Wii Remotes.
Looking forward to it, Insomniac Games is one of the few studios today that doesn’t show all kinds of ‘hardcore gaming’ biases and stupidity.

  5. The greater news for me here is realizing that Insomniac is actually no longer with Sony. That’s just really weird.

  6. I would love to see OverStrike on the Wii U, naturally it should have exclusive content/features thanks to the controller, effectively making the 360 & P3S versions inferior. But if Insomniac even consider trying to pawn off ports of Ratchet, Resistance or Spyro then they can go to hell.

  8. I’m so happy that Nintendo is making a new console. I ,personally, didn’t care much for graphics, but it does make it a little better. I hope they make a Call of Duty game for it, and another Conduit game. The ending was better then the first, but still disapointing.

  9. I know people balk at the idea of another platformer on a Nintendo system besides Mario, but Ratchet and Clank will make a good addition. Maybe that could steal some PS3 owners to the Wii U. They could use a new Resistance title to show of the power of the system like Sony did with their PS3 launch.

This could be a very fruitful endeavor.
