Gamers were driven to dispair earlier this week when Capcom announced it had decided to cancel the long-awaited Mega Man Legends 3. Now Keiji Inafune, Co-designer of Mega Man Legends 3 has spoken out about the canceled project stating that the cancellation was “out of my sphere”.
“The decision for the cancellation was out of my sphere, but as someone who took part in the development, I’d like to convey something to the staff: I’m sorry that I couldn’t be of assistance. I’m truly sorry I couldn’t take part until the end. I didn’t buy a 3DS for this project, but at the very least I’d like to have played the demo.”

Actually a lot of 3DS related games are being cancelled, not just Megaman.
I’m no fan of Mega Man but even I can’t believe this game was cancelled. It had a several-page spread in a recent issue of Nintendo Power and looked, in my opinion, like a must-have upcoming game that was well-along the path of being released. Has Capcom made any real statement about the cancellation? I’ve heard only vague rumors that a shifting/elimination of positions in the staff might have caused this.
I do recall them saying something along the lines of ‘If there isn’t enough hype for the Demo. We won’t do the real game’
That prototype was supposed to be released as a paid download. Capcom said that the sales of the prototype would determine whether or not the game would see the end of production. They decided not to release the prototype at all and abruptly cancel the game instead.

I’m really curious as to what Megaman’s fate will be from now on. It’s been about a year and a half since the last new game (Mega Man 10) was released. Mega Man Zero Collection was just a collection of games so it doesn’t really count as a new game.
The ZX and Star Forces series are both on hiatus. Operation Shooting Star never made it out of Japan. Mega Man Universe (Xbox Live and PSN) was cancelled. Mega Man Legends 3 (3DS) has now been cancelled. What is happening to our favorite blue bomber?

Fucking Capcom… it cancelled two of the best looking games of late. First Universe… now Legends. You know what? Until they release another MM game in the US that isn’t a shitty Starforce game… FUCK ‘EM. See. The problem I’ve got with Capcom is the way they have been acting stupidly for some time now. Lets look at their recent past:
Resident Evil: Oh wow! We got Resi 4 for the Wii! And it sold pretty decently. You’d have though we’d get 5? Nope. Two rubbish rail shooters. Not to mention the crap they pulled with Resi Mercanaries.
Devil May Cry: Just look at Dante now. Nuff said
Okami: The first one sold pretty damn well on the Wii. Enough for people to hassle Capcom for another game. We got Okamiden. Not a bad game at all. Yet Capcom screwed up twice. First off. Releasing a game inbetween Pokemon and the 3DS launch wasn’t a great idea. Secondly. Where was the hype? I have YET to walk into a store and see it to buy. Game didn’t even know it existed.
So great. There goes any chance of another game in the series.
Phoenix Wright: First off, I’m now unsure whether or not we’ll see Layton vs Wright after all. Which would be criminal itself. However Capcom announcing that they’ll not be releasing Ace Attorney Investigations 2 due to poor sales of the first. I don’t know about anyone else but the first time I even saw AAI it was in a bargain bin in Morrisons. Asking around places like Game said they got limited supply and after that just never got anymore in.
Street Fighter: All I’m going to say is. Any reason they are re-releasing the same game over and over? There are three Street Fighter IV games on the shelves. And very little to make them different (a couple of different chars) and also the 3DS one. (which Capcom were lucky to have little competition released for Launch. Makes me wonder if this is the developer Nintendo wanted to keep happy by not bringing Zelda out for launch?) But seriously. Re-releasing the exact same game each year with minor tweaks isn’t great. That’s the Activision way of thinking.
Breath Of Fire: Seriously? No 6 yet? I’m aware that in the west a JRPG without the words ‘FINAL FANTASY’ doesn’t do nearly as well as some should. But surely there’s a big enough market who wants another game? Hell, I’d be happy with a port of 3 or 4 for the 3DS.
Dino Crisis: Again, 1 and 2 were great. But never saw anything else since. (I think there was one for the Xbox maybe?)
But yeah. The way Capcom have been going as seen in these it doesn’t surprise me. I’m sure however they’ll be re-releasing Street Fighter IV: Blood version in a few months. Or maybe Marvel vs Capcom 3: Arcade

You know. I never once played Megaman Legends, and the only other MM game I played was 1 and 2. Fucking hell. I was looking forward to this game so I could play a MML game. I’ll be incredibly surprised if they have many fans after this. They’ve just ruined themselves. All the new RE games look shit. Especially Mercenaries. I could just pick up my copy of RE 4 or 5 to play that thing. Megaman Legends 3 is cancelled. Don’t get me started on Devil May Cry 5. I’d be surprised if anyone bought anything other than Phoenix Right (never played it myself honestly).
Well, this is the 8th 3DS game cancelled so far, 9th if you count the Prototype Version.
Inafune is sad of course, Mega Man is like his son. Look back at the MML3 panel at New York Comic-Con, he was VERY happy to announce it then.
What’s with all these cancellations lately? Something fishy is going on in the video game industry.
My question is where’s megaman 2.5?!
