Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS Outsells All Other Systems Combined In Japan

The Nintendo 3DS has outsold all the other gaming systems combined in Japan this week. The system sold over 105,639 units in Japan between August 15th through to August 21st. Clearly great news for Nintendo and great news for us as undoubtedly these strong sales will encourage more third-party studios to develop for the system.

    1. I think the quality of this community response really goes to show that Nintendo isn’t your average company.

It’s always nice to see Nintendo fans being pleased when Nintendo goes well, rather than the average gamer just complaining because the copy he pirated isn’t working.

  1. This is more evidence to the “new model” rumor being false. Why would Nintendo make a redesign so soon after launch when the current console is doing so well? (After a bad start, but now all’s good)

      1. Lol yea they’re not apple. I mean in 2 years, there have been 3 iPads? Seriously? It’s ridiculous. Well the new one will be out soon. Yea the rumors are false. Why release a new redesign when the 3ds is selling very well now

      2. Apple can afford to release new iterations of their gadgets, and screw over their customers because they have more money than the U.S. government. This is not a hyperbole! They actually do!

  2. hopefully sales don’t drop off now before the Big N’s “annoucement”. I’m now waiting to buy mine till i know whats up.

    1. PSP Go was not one of Sony’s brightest moments, don’t get me wrong I have a PS3 and it so much better than my 360 (not my Wii I love my Wii XD). But I used to work at a Gamestop and even in America I didn’t know how to sell these things correctly, so I always sold them a regualr PSP or a DS lite :P

      1. sony is a horrible company they suck at the handheld market so the president of sony insults the 3ds well he can suck it now :) lol and at first he insulted the wii remote by calling it a lolipop… and then comes the ps move now that, looks like a lolipop…

        1. I love my 3ds but there is no way I’ll buy the vita. I see no point. I’ll stick to my ps3 and wii. Psp go was a huge waste of money and so is the move

        2. Looks more like a swollen penis than a lollipop. Eh, well at least all the sony fanboys have something to pleasure themselves with whenever they get lonely. :)

  3. This is a kick in the balls for everyone who said that people didn’t want the 3DS. Clearly there was a demand for it, but not everyone could afford it at the moment, specially in the Summer with no big events. I mean, the holidays are a time when people either buy or receive gifts. They also get gift cards and stuff. In the summer, it’s all about the beach and such. If these are the sales now, wait till they have more games and when people start buying it as gifts!

  4. Awesome! It’s about time too. Got mine on launch day. Can’t wait till starfox 64 3D AND 20 free games. Gotta love nintendo :)

        1. Yea I agree every time Sony or nintendo have bad news it’s…..Nintendo’s stocks have fallen! so nintendo is doomed!……..will anyone trust the PSN again? The 3ds is the next virtual boy and here’s why! Mean while they posted an article about how Japan is removing 360s from store shelves etc and it’s oh well Microsoft doesn’t need Japan! Though it’s true they don’t truly if it was Sony or nintendo failing in a region they’d be talkin about how they should just go third party or stick to making tvs or something.

  5. No amount of words can describe the pitiful sales of the PSP Go! Only 13? Man, that’s pathetic!

Anyway, wonder what happened to all those people who believed Nintendo doing this would mean that the 3DS would become a failure.

Sales have skyrocketed since then! Not only that, Mario still hasn’t debuted on the system yet. Neither has Luigi, Kid Icarus, and Sonic.

    1. What you fail to understand is that the psp go is just a psp with no umd support and built in memory. So psp=psp go just like dsi=DS

So close to 40,900 sales is amazing especially for a system so old.

Notice the DS sales are lower than ps2 sales. (see what I did there)

      1. All I notice is that only the DS Lite sales are lower than PS2. The sales for DSi and DS XL are much larger.

And still, it kind of looks bad for any system to have that low sales even if it is similar to another.

  6. nice, but not impressive, after a big price drop, and compentition being reasonably dead it wouldve been sad not to outsell the other consoles, even conbine. What is impressive is how the psp keeps pushing 40 to 50 thousand, even after all this time, anyways, this just means more developers will see profit on the 3ds and more games for us, lets just hope we dont get as much shovelware as the ds

  7. Welcome back, Nintendo! It’s not like they went away or anything, it’s just they’re back on top where they belong.
    Doin’ it Nintendo Style.
