Nintendo 3DS: Capcom Refused To Let Keiji Inafune Complete Mega Man Legends 3

Former Capcom head Keiji Inafune who was recently interviewed by 4gamer has revealed that Capcom outright refused to let him complete Mega Man Legends 3 for the Nintendo 3DS. No doubt this will come as a shocking revelation to the legions of Mega Man fans out there who are desperate to just play the prototype.

“So, I told them that I was going to found my own independent company and leave Capcom. However, I stated that I was ready to make a contract with them so that I could keep working on those projects that I started. I couldn’t start making contracts with other publishers for sure if Capcom agreed to the proposition, but I wanted to see those projects that I started to completion. But it couldn’t be done. They answered, ‘We have no need to do that.’”

“[I went to the trouble of]…Finding the right time, gathering the team members, planning strategies, all so we could barely start on Mega Man Legends 3. I really don’t want to quit at this crucial moment…but I can’t keep going at Capcom. I am too tired to keep going. I wanted to leave Capcom to recharge my energy, and support Capcom from there, but it seems they don’t allow it. I want to make all my effort to keep Legends 3 alive, but I’m really not sure I can do it.”

      1. i’ve played all megaman’s games exepte those on the gameboy and i think that they dont go anywhere with another 3d megaman games on a such low performance systeme ( compare to wiiU) i know it stupid to even compare those systeme but i’ll prefere to see a 3d megaman game on wii u then the 3ds.. no hate there im a nintendo fanboy lol..

          1. If your saying 3DS is low performance then that would be the same for Vita am i right. What would be the big difference from the console megaman legends 3 and a portable. I can’t see it…

    1. It really wasn’t that hard to see. Capcom’s executives have been making decisions on this level for years now, and when their awful decisions turn out to be unprofitable, they blame everyone else and start up with their Persona Non Grata act.

        1. Yea like not releasing moster hunter3 on psp in america. That was about one of the biggest financial mistakes i’ve ever seen. I mean come on it’s the best selling series of the system in both countries. If they don’t release tri-g and 4 in america i will never purchase another capcom product again.

  1. The only thing Capcom does like is that stupid street fighter games why capcom cannot ban SSF4? pfff this makes sense why there was not MMX series anymore

    1. What do you mean Street fighter is stupid? Have you ever played it? If you say No then don’t say Street fighter is stupid, If you have played it then…. ok.

      1. Also keep in mind that the sector of Capcom that made those games (Flagship) no longer exists, as the higher-ups at Capcom shut them down.

        http://www.zeldainformer.com/2011/09/retro-studios-should-make-a-zelda-game.html

The relevant part from the article:

“Undoubtedly, the most notable software developer to make a contribution to the Zelda franchise would be Capcom — specifically, a division within the company, known as Flagship. To further expand the series in the handheld market, Nintendo had assigned Flagship to develop a series of immense, linked Game Boy Color games not unlike Game Freak’s Pokémon games, to which they came out with the fan-favorites, Oracle of Ages and Seasons. Continuing with the “linking” mechanic known to handheld games in those days, Flagship went on to produce the multi-player experience Four Swords (which is to be re-released as a 3DS download this year) and an A Link to the Past remake on the Game Boy Advance, and later, the brilliant Minish Cap, a 2D adventure that mimicked the 3D games in terms of scale, plot, cinematics and design (and contrary to popular belief, Flagship did not develop Four Swords Adventures). The Flagship company eventually closed in 2007, never again to produce another Zelda title — an outcome many dedicated Zelda fans deem as highly unfortunate.”

Yes, indeed, it is highly unfortunate. Oracle of Ages still sits up there as my second favorite 2D Zelda title ever (second only to A Link to the Past).

  2. When I finish my Multimedia course in two years, I’d like to support the dude in making Mega Man. That was such a good game. I could picture MM joining the gang such as Mario and Sonic! Let me master my action scripts, HTML and I would love to be making games.

          1. Dude get a life, Idc what the correct spelling is. Your not getting any cool points for trying act intelligent…..btw I’m not backup account. I’m defending a person who has a vision. (oh look I’ve spelled all my words right this time ‘o’ shocking right!!!)

    1. Not to put a dampen on your dreams or anything, but ActionScript is a scripting language only used in the Adobe (formerly Macromedia) FLASH software, and HTML is nothing more than a mark-up language — neither of which have any use in the creation of Mega Man, which is written in the C programming language.

Also, the Mega Man intellectual property is entirely at the whims of Capcom, so even if you had the necessary skillset to program for them, it would be entirely up to Capcom to allow such a thing to transpire. Seeing as they won’t even let the man who practically single-handedly made Mega Man into what he is today (or rather, what he was before his untimely demise at the hands of Capcom) I highly doubt they would reconsider just because one person says they’d help him.

I know the adage goes, “Life is but a dream,” but this particular dream is not unlike a nightmare. I’m not saying you can’t have goals — quite the contrary — but it would be wise to stay focused on more…realistic goals, as opposed to “pipe dreams.” :)

  3. can’t understand what capcom thinking
in my Logic Megaman is safe with inafune
and the same goes for DMC with Kamiya and RE with Mikami
maybe they say what i don’t but i hope the best for them

      1. That’s a serious medical condition and I would appreciate it if you didn’t bring it up. Never fry bacon when you’re naked.

    1. Because Capcom’s executives are spawned from the deepest pits of hell, and exist only to delivery agony and suffering upon as many aspects of humanity as they can reach.

  4. Hey Sickr, I thought you might want to know that some people have dissected the Mario Kart 7 trailer and found a ton of new things NIntendo didn’t hide very well :P
Including a tanooki leaf item, a “7” item based off of the 7 in the logo, and some other cool stuff. Here’s the link to the Wikipedia page that has the stuff on there ;)
    http://www.mariowiki.com/Mario_Kart_7
All the info is on there.
I noticed one thing they missed though. When you watch the Mario Kart 7 trailer, watch closely at the part that is showing off 1st person mode. Did you see it? The star is used repeatedly like the Queen Mushroom :o
There’s also a snow world with background showing off Super Mario Galaxy elements, like the Observatory. Sorry this is off-topic, but you might not see this if I didn’t post it here ;)

  5. This just in capcom cancels mh3g and mh4!….jk but I wouldn’t put it past them although I will probably never c any of those games here in the states…..I would really love to see a mega man reboot sidescroller done like dkcr though

  7. it would be cool if they reboot the series but with a more mature theme. a third-person megaman game not like megaman legends but more tuned into a modern kinda game . a future robot-apocalypse setting would be awesome too. i for sure would buy it, IMO.

      1. exactly, im just throwing ideas, but in reality the mega-man series has lots of possibiltys. it doesnt have to be only a sidescroll, rts like GBA megaman were, capcom could do so much, but it looks like theres no hope :(

  8. Ok so you’d have to think why Capcom is soooooo intent on not releasing this game. They also won’t state any future megaman games as well. There has to be a reason and capcom knows it.

      1. clearly a lot of people considering hes borderline the mascot of the company, and even though I know this is a troll attempt but in the odd situation it’s not, please feel free to remove your head from your ass.

  10. F U…….CAPCOM……
Being stubborn and not willing to take or listen to others advices, could be one of the reasons why Keiji Inafune left Crapcom.

Fans are begging for this game. Let him finish what he started with already.
I think Capcom did this on purpose to get back at Inafune for leaving the company. And leaving the game unfinished is a way to torture him. They know they can’t make the game without him. Feel bad for The guy.

  14. iv never played ledgends so im not that botherd but i hope they make more non clasic mega man games like megaman battle network

  15. So, Capcom first refuses to make money in making an potentially great game, but wants us to pay up millions of dollars for a game we already own? Fuck them.

  17. I can’t say anything bad about Capcom… I don’t want to jinx the “Revelations” release ;) – only one of my most anticipated games for the 3DS. *excited* !!!

  18. How embarrassing, Capcom.

Please, do not oversaturate your other franchises ever again, which you did to Mega Man.

Trust me on this: if you oversaturate Resident Evil in this gaming generation, it will end the same fate as Mega Man, I guarantee you.

  19. Keiji Inafune i respect you i love the megaman legends series was really looking forward to this game its a shame capcom is so stupid/blind(insert insult) making promises “will launch with E shop” really dont go back on your word (insert insult), really frustrates me.. and makes me sad :(

  20. Nobody has mentioned the awful fuck up that was dark void, most broken game I have ever played, capcom wont even reply to my requests for help with it.I have been a fan of theirs for twenty odd years and in the last five or six they have been totally shit, banging out useless sf games that are impossible to play on a joypad, ruining my favourite franchise(after tomb raider)resident evil by taking zombies out and releasing awful retro titles that are next to impossible as they were on the arcade originally and were only designed to rape money off you as cheaply as possible, they join activision on this guys banned list of gaming assholes.
