PlayStation Vita Sells Less Than The Nintendo 3DS During Its First Two Days On Sale

Enterbrain has confirmed that Sony’s PlayStation Vita has sold less than the Nintendo 3DS during its first two days on sale. The Nintendo 3DS managed to move 371,326 units to during its first two days whilst the PlayStation Vita only sold 321,407 units.

    1. i think he wants the wars as it gives the site more hits :P or he wants us to be happy 3DS sold better! or secretly he is a Sony fanboy slowly making this site into a PS site =O

      1. peteriuss wanks over sony with a move controller up his ass

He likes fanboy wars and trolls, that’s why he never bans anyone.

    1. While I don’t particularly care who does better in this generation, that’s almost a twelve percent disparity. Furthermore, it’s a twelve percent disparity when Sony is releasing during the holiday season, while the 3DS didn’t.

My only other question is whether or not the sales numbers quoted for the 3DS are for Japan only, or world-wide.

      1. The 3DS sold those numbers out of 400,00 they shipped to Japan only. The 3DS didn’t come out in the other regions until a month later.

      1. me too mate.i cant wait for ps4 launch fail also because it will cost too much money.haha eat my dust sony copy cats!

        1. Why would Sony not learn from their mistakes with the PS3 launch price? No good company is stupid enough to do something like that again.

        2. You’re not very old, are you?
I’m not the biggest Sony fan, but I won’t call them bad just because I’m biased to the competition. In fact, even though I like Nintendo the most, I don’t think they’re any better or worse than the others.

      2. plus the 3ds didn’t have a very strong lineup and launched at a random time. With it’s lineup and timing, I was honestly expecting the vita to double that number.

        1. Really? The PS Vita has a mediocre launch as well, freezes randomly and sometimes bricks when you try to turn it on after a freeze, and you expected it to sell well?

  1. And the surprise is…?

Also, the problem with that batch that doesn’t turn off unless you let the battery discharge is on youtube. Another bad news for sony. I guess they’re getting used to it.

  2. Interesting…
Especially considering the 3DS was launched at a bad time in Japan – in March, just after the earthquake – and the Vita was launched for the main holiday season, where you’d think sales would be higher.

    1. Thousands of Japanese players were playing MAG on ps3 DURING the earthquake. Obviously they didn’t care about the quake.

I just think it was bad timing for a release. Should have been earlier than mid-December.

      1. That’s a game being played, not a console being bought. They probably should have released it like November or something.

  3. just a mere ~50k and first 2 days of sale. so insignificant. this number proves nothing and should not be taken seriously.

  4. They’re both on the 300K mark, it’s not a big diff reli. It’ll be more interesting to see the figures after a couple weeks

  5. The Only Pokemon Champion

    SWEET! :D
im not saying this im a nintendo fanboy
but cause sony has really been a dick and i think they kinda deserve it

  6. Higher shipment + better time of year for console sales = lower sales than the 3DS launch.

Something is wrong with that calculation.

    1. I dont see why but ok if having 2 proper analog sticks plus the other great things it has to offer is such a bad thing. Say what you want.

  7. Really? I actually expected the Vita to do a whole lot better than the 3DS, specially by this time of the year.
I suppose the Vita hype was not that great after all…

Now if you excuse me, I’m gonna play The Minish Cap some more. :)

    1. Yea me too but all the problems the vita is having doesn’t help. People are complaining that the touch screens don’t work, it freezes, and it won’t let them use the playstation network. I do want a vita but this is making me feel that Sony just rushed the product to market. Also the memory card prices are insane. I don’t want to pay $120 just for 32gb

      1. I totally get your point. I have a 3DS and I love it, and I also want to get a Vita by christmas, but all the official accessories are just WAY to expensive.
I guess I’ll wait ’till march or april to get one to see if they decide to make things cheaper.

  8. If you take into consideration that the 3DS is more appealing to children than the Vita is, Sony actually did a very well job, in my opinion. They mainly get bought by people at the age of 16+ (as far as I know) after all, unlike the 3DS which was sold to both children and those older people. That’s my opinion at least.

    1. That’s an interesting point. I’ve always wondered why Sony seems unable to appeal to more age groups? I hear Sony fanboys (not saying you are one) arguing that Nintendo sells more because kids buy they’re products and Sony games more for the “hardcore” gamers.

      1. I didn’t mean to say that the 3DS is just for kids, not at all. If I’d think so, I wouldn’t have bought one myself.
But it is kinda a fact that there are many games for Nintendo’s systems that are made for children. I’m happy actually that Sony actually does not have that kind of games because they are the reason why people keep thinking Nintendo’s systems are just for kids (which is not true at all).
But what I’m trying to say is that Sony’s systems are not made for kids, so they do not get bought by kids, unlike Nintendo’s systems. Nintendo offers games for kids, Sony does not. And in my opinion, this has to be taken into consideration when comparing the numbers of sales.

  9. I can’t wait to buy this!

Im surprisingly not playing my 3DS I just bought on Sunday very much like I thought I would. I most certainly dont hate it though.

      1. Yes I did, plus Zelda orcarina of time.

Ive played all 3 now. My favourite is Zelda. Im very impressed with Mario land too! I wish all hand held mario games were like that. And mario kart 7 being the most played so I could unlock stuff.

  10. Look! I know some people are saying that numbers don’t matter, but from a business perspective, not having your product out sell your competition during the most busy time of the year, is a big deal. I don’t care if it’s by 50k or 1 million, when its all said and done, businesses care about numbers! For example, when Nintendo decided the 3ds wasn’t selling well, they lowered the price. Now, it’s selling like hot cakes. As a gamer, I hope the Vita does well, I just don’t think it will sell as well as people believed. I really think that instead of releasing it in Japan, they should’ve released the Vita in the west first. If they did, we might be having a different conversation…..

    1. I can’t wait for the blog post “after 1 month 3ds beats vita sales” you know cause vita won’t be released worldwide in one month like the 3DS was. So the first month sale numbers wouldn’t be properly compared.

Fanboys will talk crap, and people with brains will laugh at their incompetence.

      Jan. 17th wait for it.

      1. Wait…Wasn’t the 3ds in the US and Europe released a month after the release in Japan? They’ll only be comparing the Japanese results, if they’re not retarded…

        1. 3DS was out in Feb 2011 according to Wikipedia in Japan, with a March 2011 launch in US. If you look it up on wikipedia, the 3DS numbers are the sales only for Japan, it does not include US/Europe numbers. I expect a comparison for US when it launches, and perhaps this 1 month update, but staying relevant to the region sales, not total sales.

It would be bad to include irrelevant sales figures (like US/Europe) when making a comparison. I’m expecting a comparison by each region for similar time frames.

      2. If you bother to look it up (I used Wikipedia) the numbers presented are JAPAN only. The total 3DS sold as related above was Japan only sales, as US was about the same.

So when people create articles like this, they will compare accurate results relevant to the region and not include sales figures for other regions. There may be a 1 month comparison, but likely it will only compare Japan sales numbers for both systems. As when it launches in the US, it will compare only to US launch of the 3DS.

        1. Oh the vita blog he said vita sold 317,000 and 3DS 400,000+ the first 2 days. It’s had to mess up data almost a year into the record books.

          1. Then that was Sickr adding them or something. Generic reports use “400,000+”, but the true Japan figure on this blog matches what I saw on Wikipedia.

  11. and now why is not everybody saying the same bullshit that they said when Nintendo sold more than that ???

    let my remember … ammm

That sells are bad, Nintendo is doomed, Nintendo fail, Nintendo is going to dissapear, Nintendo is over…

    1. I think people aren’t saying that because Nintendo is strictly about gaming and people may possibly believe that should a Sony console flop, that it’ll have its non-gaming divisions to fall back on.

  12. It’s really early to say anything about this. I guess it all depends on the quality of games for each hand held consoles, heck in our current generation gameplay and graphics do matter.

  13. I wonder if Sony is following the same trend as nintendo. Terrible price with with no games or support on launch. If so, you’d think Sony would learn a thing or to from the 3DS’s mistakes.

  14. This is good news. Hopefully Sony follows suite and dramatically cuts the price tag as the 3DS before it. This way I’ll have both handhelds for cheap!

    1. sony is not going to do that cut the price tag.sony talked to much shit about nintendo 3ds & vita is doing bad they need to stop being copy cats & do there on thing. like to analog sticks nintendo did that first. to late to bad

  15. Hmm, that was only for the Japanese market, right? I think the Vita should get another chance when it launches in Europe and NA. THEN we’ll see how well it sells.

  16. It came out near the end of the Christmas shopping season, a lot of people already bought their gifts and such and probably can’t afford it right now. It does have a high price point, so let’s see how it fares in a few months’ time.

I’d love to see this system do well, because I hate that mobile gaming is limited to phones lately. Though, 3DS and Vita are not really the best portables, since both have a very mediocre battery life.

  17. I agree there must be competition on the game market …remember atari … Videgames werent tht popular after atari , five yrs later nintendo come and saved the videogame industrie ( whoa to much of the theme) but my point is tht if theres only one system the games r going to have bad quality

    1. More context is needed here, it seems.

The 3DS was $250 and only had like 2 games even remotely worth having. It was also released in the springtime, so not a lot of people saw that time to get it as a gift opportunity.

The Vita is priced around the same as the 3DS originally was and appears to have solid launch titles. It was released close to Christmastime, meaning a lot more people should have seen it as an opportunity to ask for it/ give it as a gift for the holiday season. Despite this, the Vita has sold about 50,000 units less than the 3DS.

The difference seems pretty big now, if you ask me. If the Vita was launched in the spring or if the 3DS was launched around Christmas, the difference in numbers would very likely be much larger. You can argue with me, but you can’t argue with figures!

  18. Hahahah! I’m ok with this..bad sales in March=bad launch but bad sales in Christmas=horrible launch as someone else here said.

  19. I would type something relevant here but I’m too busy spamming “I TOLD YOU SO, MOTHAFUCKAS” on every single comments page on IGN.

  20. So what? The Nintendo 3DS was released first! New tech in a new era always creates more of a stir…and the money they poured into Advertising? Vita is glad it is known at all in mainstream public!

  21. Even if there was a price cut I would not buy one. The only games I saw for this thing looked like they were 100% played by tapping the screen. I admit I was excited when I first read about the system but.. that was because I had the thought of a new Monster Hunter on a system with better graphics. Now I just laugh at this sad little excuse of a system after having seen the video MH4 (for 3ds.) The only game I have ever been that horny over other than that video is the Bioshock series. The fact that there has been talk of a Bioshock being made for this thing is the only reason I would buy it and, only after I had the game on reserve and receipt in my hand would I purchase this system.

  23. Well, i say they deserve it.
250 bucks is pretty expensive for a console, and i don’t see any game i wanna buy.
And is pretty sad because, even when the 3DS wasn’t released in the Holiday Seasons, it stills sells better.
If Sony want to keep up Nintendo, make the console more cheaper, or make more games for that.
The reason i didn’t want the PS Vita is because it have a lot of features that i don’t want and i have to pay for them even when i don’t want them.
If you like the Vita, is fine, but i say the 3DS is more brighter and colorful, and have just the basic features, that and the fact that is easy to hack and i will buy the R4 3DS whenever i have the opportunity.
    YAY for piracy.

  24. I’m starting to believe the third one, it’s a pitty that his Vita blog has so few visits haha. Poor Sony thingy.

    Kidding, cheers all!!

  25. every is acting like there apart of the company just because a console sells more doesnt mean it wins -_- (btw im a nintendo fan not a nintendo fag). i hope sqaire enix make another dissidia on vita

  26. I have to admit, I’m a huge nintendo fan, but I don’t wanna see the VITA fail, because I’m looking at getting one, but I have to admit though, I’m quite suprised it did not sell as well, considering its the holiday season compared to when 3DS came out (earthquake). But I hope they can fix the issues I’ve heard about before I get one, I don’t wanna buy something that’s just gonna break and do absolutely nothing for me.

  28. i think theirs a couple of reason why the vita didn’t sold as much as the 3ds:

    1) age appeal, the 3ds like its predecessor appeal to a wider demographic, the vita on the other hand only appeals to a certain amount (teens, core)

2)advertisement, i don’t think there wasn’t that much good vita ads for japan. although, i know that when the vita gets to the US, Kevin butler is gonna advertise the shit out of the vita.

    3) because its Nintendo: not to offend Sony fans (own a ps3 myself) but Nintendo really knows how to get to parents, probably because those same parents were fans of Nintendo once or are. again nothing against Sony.

    .

  29. That’s weird. I thought this would definitely sell better considering the launch games, the tech vs the price, and the fact that this got released during the holiday rush. The system problems like freezing up and unresponsive touch screen shouldn’t have affected this because in two day, people wouldn’t have known about that.

  30. tbh, I am a loyal nintendo customer, but I wouuld love the vita as well as the 3ds just for its graphical prowess alone

  31. I think everyone needs to realize since every system is getting more expensive that less units will be sold than the last generation. But anyways this is good for Nintendo because they have always survived on the handheld market when it’s console market was hurting. The Wii was an exception since that thing sold like a beast.
