Popular Online Retailer GAME Hacked, Customer Details Stolen

MCV is reporting that popular UK retailer GAME has had customer details stolen from its database by malicious hackers. There’s no word as to whether customer credit card details have been compromised. Customer information, including email addresses and passwords (stored as plain text) were obtained from the company’s website and posted on the internet.

Update: Game claims it hasn’t been hacked and have told MCV that they will issue a statement shortly.

        1. He’s trying to make you look like an asswhich he’s failing at because it shows a different gravatar and he didn’t spell “THE” the way you do.

  1. Fail. I just pre-ordered Mass Effect 3 from them today as they had the N7 edition on PS3 which I couldn’t find in the other online UK retailers I buy from.

  2. I wonder if these hackers are the same people who hit zappos.com

The warning was sent this morning:

    First, the bad news:
We are writing to let you know that there may have been illegal and unauthorized access to some of your customer account information on Zappos.com, including one or more of the following: your name, e-mailaddress, billing and shipping addresses, phone number, the last four digits of your credit card number (the standard information you find on receipts), and/or your cryptographically scrambled password (but not your actual password).
    THE BETTER NEWS:
The database that stores your critical credit card and other payment data was NOT affected or accessed.

        1. My local swapmeet has nintendo games as well (dirt cheap, like SMG2 for 15) but should sickr cover all the thefts that go on there?

of course not, same applies to this.

          1. Because GAME is totally different than simply a local store. It is is the biggest gaming retailer in the entirety of the UK. It is the same as how big it would be if Gamestop lost their details in the US. It is huge news. Although it has been said to be false now that doesn’t change the fact it was good it was mentioned.

  3. Oh crap…..Well I’ve never heard of it, probably because I’m american, But this isn’t good for the people who use that retailer…

  4. This hacking shit is bullshit. Like, really? Whats the point of it? Doing illegal things because you don’t like what’s going on? This is terrorism. This is constantly happening and it’s becoming way too frequent. No wonder the government was trying to censor the internet.

    1. Yes but instead of doing it the right way, the governmet wants to fuck everyone over, this is like Revoking everyones Drivers License because a few morons keep getting DUI’s.

  5. on a side note, i have another prediction. The Pokemon Company has been pretty quite and secretive about upcoming Pokemon games (except that DS one). They’ve advertised their new movie which is basically Pokemon Gray, so maybe that’s on it’s way to 3DS. but what if they went a step further and made a launch title for the Wii U. Making a Black/White Revolution/Stadium for Wii U and releasing Gray on 3DS would be great because of the connectivity. Last year, they said they were making a game that would be beyond everyone’s expectations and they said there will be more Pokemon games this year than last. I can’t imagine have 6 Pokemon games on 3DS in one year, so most likely there will be some on the Wii U.

  6. People need to stop this hacking nonsense. If it is true that they’ve been hacked I hope they move quickly to protect their customer information, instead of trying to cover it up.

  7. C**p! I have a game card with them! and i buy with them!! THIS is the 2nd time i’ve got hacked in 1 year because of PSN!! Screw Hackers!!!!!!!

  8. Hahahaha… I’ve just tried to buy some games at their promotion there and got the “Error Summary : Fraud “, probably due to a block on my credit card / bank secure policy. Hilarious how things happens.
