Youtube channel GameLiveTV has captured some fantastic high quality footage of both Battle Mii and Chase Mii on the Wii U. Both demos were demonstrated by Erik Peterson Localization Producer for Nintendo of America at this years CES event in Las Vegas.

Just from watching this, I really hope Nintendo’s first party games will actually look graphically impressive instead of dumbing it down and leaving good graphics for third-party games.

And yeah. I like Miis too. They’re Kind of like Sims. It’d be cool if Nintendo could expand on the idea and maybe make a Sims/Mii-like game, where you can customize homes, dress ur Mii up fashionably and that could also go WiFi. But then again, I guess that’s what Animal Crossing is for? If they did that, they’d probably be killing off that franchise. :l Hmm…

There are so many things I could think of with that controller. I love the Dead Space series, and maybe you could have a weapon selection on the controller. Trapped in the corner and need a Ripper? One tap away and you’re set to go! Seriously, think about it makes me excited. If only they use the effort to apply it though in games. Unlike with most Wii games where you could use a regular controller just as easily.

Sorry, I am excited about the Wii U and I understand the reason for showing this (i.e. to show off the controller functionality), but this looks like shit. They finally have a true HD 1080p system (which neither XBOX 360 or Playstation 3 even are; they upscale to 1080p from 720p), and they show off this POS? Graphics aren’t everything, true… But we’ve had graphics like this for years now; one of the biggest draws of this console is it’s graphical capabilities. Why not show a game that is both graphically impressive AND shows off the unique controller functionality? I personally think Miis should go the way of the dodo in favor of some more impressive and customizable avatars, like the XBOX 360’s avatars… only better!

I thought Battle Mii looked pretty damn fun.
We know Nintendo can make fun games, and we know that the controller has nearly endless possibilities. What I’m upset about is that the Wii U will be the most powerfully graphic-capable console out there at least for a year or two, and they’re showing off games that look like Wii games. This wouldn’t be a bad thing if the Wii were at least close to XBOX or PS3 graphics, but as it stands, it’s really 2 generations of graphics ago. To show that on a new console that is capable of dwarfing even the PS3 is really disappointing. At the very least I would have liked to see something that was AT LEAST on par with, say, an XBOX 360 tech demo or a first-gen PS3 game. Considering the consoles rumored graphical capabilities, I don’t think that would have been difficult at all to pull off and STILL show off the new controller possibilities. And the Miis are absurdly low res and bland looking, even for the original Wii. Not saying they have to be realistic looking like PS3’s… those are lame and have no personality. But something akin to XBOX’s with a bit of Nintendo flare would be nice. The current Miis look like something designed in MS Paint, and XBOX’s by comparison would be Photoshop CS5. Nintendo really needs to step it up in ALL areas.
I hear ya, but I think Nintendo is worried if the focus too much on graphics, people won’t know what the big deal is. (since all consoles have great graphics.)
It’s important to focus on how they are changing the way we play games so WiiU is set appart from the rest.
Granted, it might be nice to see them flex the graphics muscles a little more, unless they DON’T have any WiiU software complete yet… Which is a scary thought..
I would think it also cost a good amount of money to make pretty tech demo. They already have Zelda and the Garden graphics demo. Why spend more time and resource on the Mii demo’s that were made control impossibilities rather than graphics?
You might think the extra cost is just a drop in the bucket. Well sure, think of it from a business stand point, you don’t to be spending money and time for minimal gains. They already met their goals for the demo’s they showed, so move on to real games and maybe this years E3 demos.

@obi-wan shinobi, dude, just wait til e3’12, in CES they just showed the same tech demos they showed at e3’11, both the chase mii and battle mii are just to show the capabilities of the controller and the console being backwards compatible with the wii accesories, and both look pretty fun. On the HD side they also had 2 demos showing off what the console could do, i think the zelda hd demo looked pretty badass, the lighting and textures looked awesome, same with the flying bird demo.
Now keeping in mind that they were just unveiling the console i think that they showed enough, and im certain that at e3’12 they’ll show everything from the official launch lineup, to their online platform and services, better demos, pricing, and etc ^^. Cant wait!
You never know, Nintendo could always make the Mii’s more customizable on the Wii U.
I hope so. I would especially like the Miis to look something like the Xbox avatars, with bodies and customizable clothing.
It would also be cool if you could input you’re real world height and it would translate into the game at perfect scale size. It’s really annoying to me to have to guess where i am on the bar thing.

Those games weren’t ready. If you followed any Wii U news since 2011’s E3, you would know there wasn’t a true game demo yet outside of the ones you see above. All other footage was video, and not playable. CES used the exact some 2011 E3 stuff. 2012 E3 will have the REAL demo games.
I realize that. But all I was saying was that I’d they we’re going to show off game demos, it should either have been both gameplay impressive AND visually impressive (as those are the two main selling points) or nothing at all. Showing games that look like they’re running on the original Wii, which was already graphically outdated when it came out, is absurd, regardless of how unfinished they may be.

Last time i checked Nintendo showed a ZeldaHD tech demo at E3 2011 and CES 2012.There was also a “demo/showing” of a flying bird. If you wanted something visually impressive then that was it.
They didn’t show of demos, but tech demos. Those are not actual games but demos to show of the hardware capability’s. And all the tech demos they showed did just that.
Why would they waste their time on makeking something so visually impressive

The mii demo’s were MEANT to not be graphically impressive. Why don’t you understand that? They’re mii’s dude. They’re cartoony. What do you want them to do? Add broader features? Add some shaders and muscies like Gears of War? They used the zelda demo to showcase the graphical capabilities, and even called the display, “The HD experience.” The fact that there was only one display MEANT to show the graphical capabilities, and the rest to show the controller’s features should speak for itself. I shouldn’t have to explain this to you….
Nintendo doesn’t care aout competitors Reggie Fils Aime stated that in the interview at CES 2012. He said all Nintendo want to is expand on entertainment and gaming. They don’t care what Sony and Microsoft is doing.

Would be pretty awesome actually, but I guess it would be more likely that those game would come to the Online Store, so the store would already have some games on it.
If Nintendo does for the Wii U Shop what they did with DSi Ware on the eShop, we could have access to EVERY Virtual console and Wii Ware game already available on the Wii Shop Channel :)

honestly i would probly play more with the wii mote and nunchuck because there pertty much the ultimate controls ever made but i would love to play with some fps games like battlefield and sniping with the wii zapper and using the wii u pad to look through like a scope zoom in and zoom out my touching the screen
I was really hoping they’d show new games at CES. I don’t think we will get AAA titles on WiiU’s launch. There is not enough time left to build up hype for an AAA title before the console launches.
Take a look at previous AAA titles. Other M, DKCR, Kirby epic yarn,SMG 2, Skyward Sword. Those games where announced at least a year before their release. Nintendo hasn’t showed us any new games for the WiiU and when they do, expect to wait at least a year before playing it.

wow! this really opens up the posibilities!!! imagine a Metroid game were you can have a general screen showed on the big screen, and all the other players can be watching their own game in the new controller screen, it would be like playing with a DS or 3DS but with the WiiU qualitty, so it’s really cool the new panorama that nintendo wants to do, hope the developers know how to make the most of it! =D
