It doesn’t, the PS3 is biggest selling console of the last year with the xbox taking second – this is due to the PS3 still being the cheapest blu-ray device one the market and has steadily grown in sales in the last year (despite the hacking problem) the xbox has actually dropped in sales over last year with the Wii selling least. Overall the Wii is still the most successful of this generation with the xbox in second and the ps3 only slightly behind (picking up a lot as it is the most picked-up second choice (either as a second console, or along with a gaming PC).

If XBox really does put effort into the system, making interesting games and an innovative control like the Tablet will be, then I will consider it. But I’ll already have the Wii U with great control and great games, and XBox will still try to make a photorealistic shooter to sell each year.

The Wii was released 1 year after the Xbox 360 back then, and it had a greater performance of 0% than the Xbox360 did. And back then, those 0% were enough for the Nintendo-fanboys to act like the Wii was better than the Xbox 360. So I don’t think any of you have the reason to complain about other fanboys if you’re not any better yourselves.
Plus, 20% isn’t that much of a small number, it’s alright IMO. And as far as I know, there hasn’t been any official infos nor pictures of the new Xbox… So how can we judge how much better it will be ? We can’t even know IF it will be better. Even though it can be expected to be better, we can’t certainly know until enough info gets released.

I think you should try the xbox console they have some good games but the only thing I hate is xbox live fees I still play my 3ds and my wii a little but I’d reccomend some of the watered down wii ports are terrible graphicwise.

If the Wii U displays colours even better than the 360, then being 20% doesn’t even matter. I know some of PS3’s multiplatform games have worse lighting than on 360, so we’ll see.
Who knows when Sony will put out a new console and if it’s as expensive as the PS3 was at launch, then it’ll just be bought by the same people.
If the Wii U is the cheapest, 1st/2nd most powerful console, is out the soonest and gets gamers to switch over to them before XBox 360 and PS3’s successors get to them, then Nintendo’s pretty much won. Can’t forget exclusives that casuals and hardcores love. ;)

But, even if the Wii U has all this power, there are still going to be games that will be exclusive to the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4, just a lot fewer than the PS3/360. And just like there will be games exclusive to the 720 and PS4, there will be exclusives to the Wii U and PS4, and also to the Wii U and 720.

What people aren’t considering, is several things:
1. Nintendo hasn’t released the official, final specs of the Wii U. No way to benchmark it if it’s not finalized and ready to be tested (especially against a competing console that doesn’t even exist yet).
2. Microsoft also has not released any specs, other than the video card. There are a lot more factors that go into a console that affect the performance. Remember when the last gen was at this stage, and Sony was bragging about how much more powerful PS3 was compared to XBOX 360? Turns out, the XBOX 360’s architecture actually runs circles around PS3 in many ways, and is equal to it in others. So the XBOX 360 is actually slightly more powerful in real-life circumstances, solely based on how it utilizes it’s power.
3. The Wii U may be in-line with XBOX 720 and PS4 in terms of power, but it also will have to output to AT LEAST one controller screen as well, which will drain some of that power. Whether or not that’s the reason it will be 20% less powerful, or if it will be 20% less powerful on TOP of that… who knows. If it’s the latter, then realistically, it will be even less powerful, because I’m sure it takes at least a noticeable amount of processing power to provide a streaming wireless video feed to the controller; especially to multiple controllers. Who knows if this will be a significant factor in the presentation (graphical quality, frame rate, etc.), but at the very least it should mean we can see slightly-better-than-XBOX 360 graphics with true 1080p and a constant 60fps on every game even with 4 tablet controllers. That alone would be enough for me to buy one.
Their is a lot of time before Wii U is released, so they can definitely fix all of those issues with the controller and console etc.But overall I am very excited about the Wii U FTW!!!! PS. Lets just hope that they have a good online strategy.
Graphics can only get so realistic before it all seems superfluous. So long as the Wii U can have some great A.I I’ll be happy. The fact is that Nintendo’s new system will be a beast, but only to the point where a consumer would be willing to lay down the cash.
This Gen wasn’t won by amazing graphics, but by engaging gameplay. With that said, 3rd party devs were definitely tempted by the pretty graphics- I dont blame them.

No it’s not. 20% raw power may make a slight difference in frame rate (very slight), but tis is just a graphics card. If you look at the rumored graphics cards for wii u and 720, the wii u would be using a gpu which would make it 2x more powerful than the 720.

This is good news for Nintendo. And I think for Microsoft, too.
20% is quite a bit more, but it’s not a whole lot more–you won’t see a significant leap in terms of graphics. Though, it might feature DirectX11, with it still being a dedicated console, that’s a feature that won’t be fully exhausted as with PC games–consoles still have a tighter budget to watch with using DirectX11 features. Not to mention, a major-title game already are beginning to costs around $40+ million dollars to develop at CURRENT level of HD graphics–developers won’t be tapping into that extra 20% any time soon. And with only a 20% boost, they’ll probably struggle to show the difference, anyways.
And this console will come out later next year–that gives the Wii U more than a full year ahead of it. That’s good.
And this news also rather indirectly confirms that the Wii U is truly as powerful as several sources claimed–about 50% more powerful than current consoles. This is also good.
But I’m also glad to hear that Nintendo will in fact be having some competition during the eighth-generation of dedicated consoles. The more competition consoles have, the better–competition drives innovation. Plus, dedicated consoles will be facing iPhone-like gaming on Smart TVs soon–I’m glad to see the dedicated console’s legacy continue! I like the “meatier” games of consoles as opposed to just playing something like Angry Birds all the time.
I suspect that Sony may just not enter the next generation of consoles at all, and perhaps enter late in the generation, nearing the ninth generation. They’ve said so themselves that they have no immediate plans for PS4 anytime soon. Developers have barely began to use half of the current PS3’s total power–I think Sony’s just going to ride this eighth-generation of consoles out with PS3, or possibly just later release a “PS3+” model with a cloud service to compete with the Wii U and unofficially-titled “Xbox 720.”
But I don’t want to sound like a “fanboy” or anything. I’m personally a Wii U fan, as most of us here are, but I’m glad to see that Microsoft fans will be getting some that’ll probably be affordable. I ain’t mad at Big Mike. Seems like they’re trying to keep console cost and game dev costs down, too, just like Big N. We might just have a Nintendo vs. Microsoft generation with this eighth-generation of consoles, which would be cool, if you ask me! We might have another Nintendo vs. Sega-esque showdown on our hands!
When i was playing my SNES i wasn’t even aware of SEGA’s EXISTENCE, let alone the war with Nintendo. I would love to really be a part of a big console war!!!!
Yea but the funny thing is that they said the Wii-U was 50% more powerful than 360, but o wait which Wii-U? The REAL one or the Tech demo ones from E3 and CES, does someone have a time machine or what?

The PS4 will probably still be more powerful since its Sony, but we all know Microsoft has that “rule” where developers can’t put games on their console unless it is just as good or better than other versions, restricting any advantage of PS4 or Wii U hardware for cross-platform titles (unless released at significantly different dates).
And at this point, I don’t know how software will take advantage of this much power. Developers better surprise us with what they can do.
The only powerful console Sony had is the PS3 both PS1 and PS2 were the weakest of their generations with the N64 and GC being the most powerful. Also Sony already said that there wouldn’t be a huge graphical leap from the PS3 just to keep it cheap.
I agree on N64 but gc? Lol. And it has always come down to games and Sony has the most. Sure Nintendo has always had their main franchises but outside of that they have nothing but shovelware sold to the ignorant masses.
That’s what sony doesn’t get. They did great back then, and they forgot why. GAMES GAMES GAMES. Now it’s all about being more powerful……they just don’t get it anymore.

But the GC and Wii had some top of the line games but their library was still weak overall compared their counterparts (ehhhh except for the Xbox). Remember the NES and Super Nintendo? Why were those considered two of the greatest consoles ever made? Well, for a few reasons, but largely because of having two of the most kick ass game libraries ever.
I’ve been pitching this for years: if you wanna win the console wars get good first and third party support.
It’s funny how many people are flat out denying this “rumor” since there isn’t such a big leap in performance, yet they said the Wii U was underpowered straight on with other rumors.
People need to wake up. To have a really powerful machine, you need bleeding edge tech. That translates into high retail costs and losses. Not only that, but power consumption has gone up significantly since 05. You can have more affordable parts, but you would still need an advanced cooling system. You can modify your PC fairly easy with that, but it would be expensive for consoles. MS did say that their next console was going to be cheaper than the 360 and smaller, so this adds up to that. Plus, it seems that MS might be trying to include Kinnect with their next machine from the start.
Even though this is a rumor, you should connect the dots to get a simple conclusion for now. We shall see what happens in the future. This is about what I expected in terms of graphics. Games and gameplay will decide who is the winner.

Probably. That seems to be the next way to go. It’s funny though, the Dreamcast was the first home console to have a screen accessible from the controller, so it seems things have finally come full circle. Haha! :P

Then you obviously didn’t use it for its intended purpose. The VMU was a brilliant innovation and years before its time. The VMU could play mini-games loaded onto it from certain Dreamcast games, such as a Chao game transferable from Sonic Adventure as well as other online downloadable VMU games. It could also display a list of the saved game data stored on it, and two VMUs could be connected together end-to-end to exchange data.
Also while playing games such as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 or Crazy Taxi messages like “Awesome”, “Rad”, and “Nice Combo” would appear on the VMU screen. While playing Sonic Adventure animations not related to the game would appear on the screen, in Sonic Adventure a Chao would mimic what action the character on the screen was doing. For example, if the player was falling the Chao would appear to fall. Games such as the Resident Evil series showed the player’s health and other useful data.
For most multi-plat games, the Wii U’s controller will be used in a similar way, showcasing GUI elements that would otherwise be relegated to the main screen, such as the HUD, Health, Ammo, (Mini) Maps, etc. Only Nintendo might use it for something else, and even then, it’ll be just like the DS, so it’s not like there’ll be any truly NEW experiences to be had.
Regardless, I’m still getting a Wii U on day one, just as I’ve always gotten Nintendo consoles on day one, because I love Nintendo games. :P

honestly bro its gana come down to the developers look at ps3 and 360 ps3 was the most powerful and yet it only got ports and some of them looks better on 360 than they did on ps3 so i know with nintendo creativity and colors ect its really gana be a gamecube xbox and ps2 gen all over which is a good thing

Only? By my definirion it would be underpowered if that was the case…Just the differences won’t be as noticeable to us, as the main thing we notice is probably HD support, and the Wii U has that.
But at it’s current level of performance, the Wii U looks like it’ll be good enough, so performance shouldn’t really make a difference.
They only have info on 1 part. Either way 20% is a large gap. Expect ps4 at 50-60%
You obviously don’t know tech do you? If the rumors are true, and the wii u is using a HD4890 and then Xbox 3 a 6670 the Wii U will pretty much almost be twice as powerful in regards to the GPU. Meaning that the wii u will be at least 2x faster/visually impressive (framerate/resolution etc) than the 720.
And no, 50-60 percent better would make a difference so minute, it would barely be detected. The only way we would see even the slightest difference is if the ps4 is at least 100% more powerful.
Is IGN relying on the Xbox 720 to an underclocked Nintendo Wii U? Although I love the perfect score for The Legend of Zelda: Skyword Sword, this is by far the most bullsh*t I’ve ever read!!!!! Nintendo Wii U will dominate this and next year. Microsoft’s new system will be a hit and miss… Playing online games for the Wii U is free while Xbox Live for the 720 costs money. WTF?!!!!!
Hell, I don’t give a damn if the Xbox 720 or PS4 are gonna be more powerful. All I care is the WiiU and with 1080p confirmed and a badass graphics card, it’s a dream. I loved the Wii, but the graphics kinda sucked for some games (Skyward Sword for example, if you played it on a HDTV you know what I’m talking about, still looked very good tough). So my perfect console would be a Wii with just the graphics of the current Xbox or PS3, I don’t need more, and neither do you. It’s a shame the games for WiiU will use the tablet controller, I really hope all games are playable with WiiMotes. And with that I just wait for a 3D Mario HD, Zelda HD, Metroid HD and I can die in peace. I don’t care about the Xbox 720 or PS4, they may be awesome and more powerful, but they’re not for me. And stop trolling the other console, just stay with the one you like and shut the fuck up, trolling is for kids that can’t speak to women.

The claim is that the 720 will be 20% more powerful than the Wii-U so that possibly means Nintendo has won the war against MS next-generation. 20% will not make a noticeable with gamers this gen,I mean really how much better could a game look on 1080p with 20% more power than the Wii-U which will have NATIVE 1080p resolution.
Next generation will have to be about new ways to play games-FINALLY- and Nintendo is taking that initiative. Sony and MS are going to have to create new ways to play and I mean new- not bootleg motion control copy failures like the Move and Kinect. And they’d better not release a touchscreen controller and say ” O we HaD diS in devlopmEnt Fo Yers” and copy Nintendo. And if you think I’m some bias Ninty-flameboyfanboy guess again. I have a Wii,3DS,360 and a kinect, PS1,psp, and a PS3 and I plan on getting a Wii-U day one. But I’m not so blinded by my fanboyism to say that Kinect is better than everything. And don’t even get me started on the move; I speak for EVERY logical person when I say that Sony took the Wii remote and nunchuck, made the nunchuck into a longer controller and added two giant multicolored balls to the tops of them and called it their new creation. PlayStation move my @$$, more like WiiPlay Station Way.
ANd back to what I was saying before about new play methods. If these reports happen to be true I guess MS has multi-display support going for them, but that’s only a slight possibility because I doubt people will invest that much into it.
But of course all of this is just y speculation. The one thing that baffles me the most is how they say the 720 will be 20% more powerful than the Wii-U, but wait WHICH Wii-U? Last I checked the Wii-Us at E3 and CES were ONLY tech demos. The final versions of the Wii-U with all the specs outlined will be shown at E3 2012, so unless whoever predicted the 20% more power estimation can see into the future, the difference might be reversed or reduced more, who knows? All we can do is wait.
But again just my 2 cents :p

I wonder if this is even true. I mean if it is it seems to me like Microsoft is rushing the development of it’s next console to solely compete with Nintendo and try to take away it’s early start advantage. The problem with this is that it will probably have a lot of problems at launch and it won’t be much different from Wii U which will make the PS4 shine above any other console. I personally am going to wait for E3 this year before I make any decision on what console I will be buying.
