Sega Says Sonic “Is The Right Fit” For Wii U

Sega developer Takashi Iizuka has told Eurogamer that he believes Sonic “is the right fit” for Nintendo’s forthcoming Wii U console. While lizuka wouldn’t be drawn into revealing any details about what Sega has in store for Wii U, he did reveal that he’d like to return to the 3D Sonic style for the next generation consoles.

“But I’m also interested in the challenge of doing something completely new with the 3D Sonic’s forward view platform action, and bring something new to the table with that as well.”

“I don’t think Sonic will ever become photo-real. I think Sonic will always remain stylised and will have that bright, colourful world. What the high hardware spec will allow us to do is make that more convincing.”

“I feel Sonic is the right fit because it is that kind of family experience game. I do feel Wii U is applicable to Sonic. But how we will apply using the controller to Sonic is something we’re still thinking about at the moment.”

      1. No please no. I used to love that game as a kid but I went back and it’s horrible. I’m a Sonic fan and had a Genesis as a kid, but that game is just a bad egg.

            1. Is not bad, is just that it was, like, too early for Sega, i remember the horrible expressions in that game, you wanna know what was better than Adventures?
Adventures 2! or Heroes! Or Colors even!

              1. adventure 1 was really flawed. adventure 2 fixed almost everything wrong. heroes played with the game’s physics and let use 3 at once for mixed results. Shadow the Hedgehog came and murdered all the progress the series had made. Colors pulled Sonic out of the darkness and Generations (Modern) pushed forward and evolved.

    1. Sonic’s often debated-to-be best game is merely a mediocre game by today’s standards. The only people who think it’s still amazing are nothing but fanboys blinded by nostalgia. You could apply this to any fanbase really. There are people who think Mario’s best 3D games are Mario 64, or Sunshine, which is far from the truth. Even those games haven’t aged very well.

But in reply to the beginning comment, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sonic’s new game turned out to be mediocre. Colors and Generations were good games, but they were blown out of proportion by fanboys who made the games seem like masterpieces, which is simply laughable.

          1. Expired? I can see anything that was on the DS being ported or re-done for the Wii U for more shovelware, things like art and drawing based games being done excessively, and even more motion-based shovelware making its way onto the thing.

    1. “He is better than Mario 100/100.”

Okay, that’s debatable. But hey, if you like Sonic more than Mario, then that’s fine.

    2. Better than Mario? Even though most of Sonic’s games have sucked for the last decade? Even his recent outings are barely good. No Sonic game has ever even managed to score above an 80 on Metacritic for YEARS. Do you really believe the ignorance you spew?

      1. Actually, the re-relased of Sonic CD scored above 80% on Metacritic, don’t get me wrong, I like Mario, his games are just starting to bore me though.

  1. “But I’m also interested in the challenge of doing something completely new with the 3D Sonic’s forward view platform action, and bring something new to the table with that as well.”

  2. Thats awesome. The only games I ever thought as bad were Sonic 06 and Shadow also the Werehog half of unleashed but his last few games have been pretty damn good. Also in the pic Sonic really needs to wash those gloves O.o

  3. Sonic needs a lesson in cleanliness lol.

I hope that Sonic gets a good game on Wii U.

I wouldn’t mind a port of the console version of Generations. I have yet to play it.

  5. SEGA just needs to stick with making their games for Nintendo consoles. If it weren’t for their success with the games they made during the GameCube-era for Nintendo (in terms of sales), then they just wouldn’t be in the position they are today. This is one of the major reasons why I am proud to see both of the companies hard at work in collaborating and even making their own crossover games with their franchises for Mario and Sonic.

Hopefully, with this news about Sonic being worked on for the Wii U, we can also get a confirmation that Phantasy Star Online 2 is in the works for the Wii U as well. There is absolutely no reason that the game cannot be brought over to the platform because it IS in the works for the Playstation Vita already (which is a joke in and of itself). Then, we can bring up that big question on localization. ‘Till then, I’d be perfectly fine with anything SEGA has to offer on launch (even if it involves a monkey in a ball or a certain anthropomorphic racing game).

I just don’t want a repeat of the Nintendo 3DS’ launch where SEGA gave us one-third of a Super Monkey Ball game (as the Monkey Ball portion was the only GOOD part about that game). We had to wait until mid-late November just to see a Sonic game released for the system.

It seems as if SEGA already knows where the money is at for them when it comes to their games. Don’t be surprised if we hear more details about PSO2 and the next Sonic game for the Wii U this year at E3 2012.

  6. I hope they finally make a Mario-Sonic cross-over, i mean, something better than the Olympic games, it would be great that Sonic plays in Mario levels and vice verse.

  7. No doubt it’ll be a great game whenever they get it out. I’ve enjoyed almost every 3D Sonic game they’ve made, so I’m sure it’ll be excellent.

  8. Sonic is my favorite video game character, both classic and modern. The only bad games I can think of (mainstream) are Sonic 06 and half of Sonic Unleashed. Sonic Colors and Generations were great comebacks. Sonic would do very well on Wii U.

  10. Why would they make a Sonic Adventure 3? what does it do different then any other Sonic game? i can you asking for a Sonic heroes 2 but Sonic Adventure is no different then any other Sonic game, it was just the first 3D sonic game Sonic 06 can be SA3. that’s like saying Nintendo should make Kirby Adventure 2, that game would be no different then any other Kirby game.
