Games Radar recently for the opportunity to play Wii U at this years Gamescom and they didn’t come away impressed with the machine. The publication says that controller input lag was a problem, demo units were crashing, and Assassin’s Creed 3 looked unimpressive compared to the PlayStation 3 version. Having played it at Gamescom, I’m not convinced it’s all coming together as coherently and convincingly as you would hope for a console so close to being released into the wider world.
In terms of how the Wii U is being presented to the press so close to launch, the overall impression I took from the show is that the machine isn’t quite there yet. And at this late stage that’s a bit worrying.

Well, whatever the case is, I’m sure Nintendo will wait until the product is functioning properly before sending it to the market.
This may very well be the reason we haven’t heard a release date yet. I guess we’ll find out for sure on September 13, right?

The 3DS was a great system at launch, it was just priced very badly and maybe could have used a couple more launch games. The Wii is launching with a Mario game. Can’t go wrong with that.

Normally I would dismiss this, but quite a few people have said now that even at this stage there is controller lag, which is a bit worrying. They need to fix it quick, since it would be suicide to wait until after thanksgiving and Christmas. I thought AC3 was supposed to look better on Wii U, since it was native 1080p and at 60fps? Hmm…

You know, I have been hearing conflicting reports and I wonder – was your controller connected/tethered to the system?
I wonder if people who report no lag are playing it completely wireless or if it is connected still somehow.
I know sometimes they connections are nothing more than a chain of sorts so the controllers are stolen or misplaced, but other times, they are actually connected for functionality.
If you could give us some feedback on your particular experience, it would be much appreciated. Was it connected to the system itself? Was it wireless? or was it just locked so it wasn’t stolen?

From what I understand, the tethers are just that; tethers and nothing more.
They don’t connect to the actual system in any electronic fashion to improve frame rates, and are only there for the sake of theft prevention.

Being someone who owns a high end PC and all the current generation systems I can honestly say I don’t agree. While PC FPS gaming is far more accurate depending on the game playing the same games honestly don’t differ much for myself on consoles. Take one of my favorite games on any platform, Fallout 3, I have all the DLC, mods, graphics enhancers, well over double the FPS of the console version and yet I very much prefer playing it on my Xbox 360.
I’m sorry, but pledging loyalty to a single platform is sad, if someone has such low self esteem that they need to claim exclusivity to one platform and bash other platforms because they don’t meet their standards is just plain pathetic.

well, the reason fallout 3 is better with a controller is becaue it was designed specifically for console and then was ported over to the pc, so ofcourse it’ll feel better with a controll. with fps’s im talking battlefield and counterstrike. those games are vastly superior on the pc. but yes i do agree, pledging alegence to one platform is stupid. i mean i play my 360, pc, and 3ds all the time. i mean i havent realy played too many games on my 360 but that’s besides the point. i mean hell i still play games on my super nintendo lol. i find it kindof funny when people are like “i would play it, but its on the 360 so no, im not even going to try it.

I find aiming with a control stick or with motion controls to be equally intuitive in the majority of cases.
Whereas a mouse, in an FPS, to look behind me I have to life the mouse up, move it across the desk, and place it back down before sliding it again. Over and over again.
To me, that’s just annoying.
I use a game pad with all of my PC-based shooters. If I had the right gear and programs for it, I’d hook up a sensor bar to my laptop and use my Wiimote Plus, instead.
But I abhor using a mouse and refuse every time, if I can do so.

um, you do know there is almost always a key to turn around right? idc if you prefer using a controller, it’s just theres no way you’re going to be alb eot get as much accuracy with an analog stick as you would with a mouse. and there is a pretty easy way to use a wiimote to control most games. all you need is a usb bluetooth receiver, a wireless sensor bar, and a program called glovepie. most games require more buttons than what the wiimote actually has, but the option is still there.
I agree. The ONLY controller I can say that does FPSes justice would be the N64 controller. Wii remote with the nunchuck is also perfect for FPSes.

So do I, then you should definitely know that pc’s have more problems then consoles. BSoD, driver problems, virus, malware etc, unless you have a water cooling system pc’s over heat more, software and hardware incompatibility issues etc

I played it on gamecom and experienced lag while using the pro controller (not the gamepad). However the lag was only there in one of the three levels of the rayman legends demo. Batman and Tank Tank Tank had no lag at all.

Ok seriously nintendo fanboys, I had to realize this too, yes the wii U will be a next gen console, but it will not be sporting next gen graphics. Which could be either bad or good or inbetween. And to the trolls, yes it is a console made for the next gen, the graphics will be a slight improvement over xbox 360 and ps3, the games will look a lot better soon, I believe that the wii U is being rushed, because many games are going to be inferior to ps3 360 games because of rushed development, ac3 and that other sports game. The gap will not be as big this gen though, it’ll still be a noticible gap though, the720 will run DX11 as said in a leak, and the job description for Halo 5, and the ps4 may follow a similar path, multiplatforms may be possibly easier this gen so the wii U won’t miss out as much as the wii did when it came to great 3rd party games.
How do you know any of the games are “inferior” to the ps3 or 360 versions? From what I see, WiiU seems to be on par or somewhat better than the 360/PS3 versions. And from developers’ mouths, they seem to thing that the WiiU version of their games is actually going to be superior(Just saying from what the developers say).
It was said that one of the sports games would be missing some features and extra gameplay, and assasins creed will be missing lighting and particles. But you’re right most multiplats will be the smae or superior.

To protect the gaming industry from devastation (Microsoft and other dangerous companies) Nintendo must be extreamly careful for what they do(well Nintendo made some mistakes in the past like the flawed desgine of 3DS or the problem with nunchuck,but Nintendo has learned a lot so i can trust them).
Lag could be due to the busy wireless around an environment such as Gamescon and it’s already been said AC3 will look worse in some respects than other versions.
If they REALLY wanted to rush the Wii U, then they should have released this console LAST YEAR. They should have released it around the same time as Skyward Sword. It makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? The Wii released with Twilight Princess at launch, and Skyward Sword would have been the final game released for the Wii at the same time the Wii U launched. Zelda would have been the perfect bookend for the Wii while the Wii U debuted. But NO, we instead had to bear almost a WHOLE FREAKIN YEAR full of almost NOTHING but games that were ALREADY RELEASED ELSEWHERE, and even when all this is said and done, the console is still not ready? Give me a break, man. Seriously, all this crap like Nintendo Land, the dual analog features, the Miiverse, ALL of this crap should have been shown LAST YEAR. At least they would have been a PERFECT DISTRACTION from the low-ass sales of the 3DS back then. I mean, do I regret everything that’s happened so far? Not at all! Killer Freaks took its time to become an awesome game like ZombiU (and it’s spelled this way, so get it right). Launching the Wii U back in 2011 probably would have been a terrible idea, given that much of the games would have been just updated ports (which is still not much different from today), but at least it would have picked up steam this year with Mass Effect 3, Assassin’s Creed 3, Arkham City Armored, and other titles NOT being launch titles and being able to release at the same time as the 360 and PS3!

Wii U is the first Nintendo system that’s ever came out (besides VB) that I will not be buying at launch. I refuse to get it and have to wait a year or so for good games. At this point, Nintendo would be very wise to delay it until further notice. Then at next years E3 presentation, announce a Wii U name change (this will clear up a lot of confusion among people and make it evident Wii U is not a simple Wii update). Also,focus 10 minutes on the titles shown at last E3 and emphasise the rest on the games fans want, such as a 3D Mario, Zelda, Starfox, F-Zero, Kirby, etc. Have the titles blow the fans away so much that they know this system is ahead of current Gen. If they did this, I can picture Wii U to have a dominant life. However, idk how it can succeed at its current state (even short term).
Idk what you would consider ‘good games’, but we don’t know everything that’s coming. We know Retro has a surprise and Capcom might, too (albeit, less exciting). Who knows if Retro isn’t doing their take on Zelda? I’d just wait ’till we know everything.
I tried the Wii U at the NYC even. I can say no Lag what so ever. Tried the tethered and untethered version. Tried the fast paced Ninja Gaiden no Lag(both untethered and tethered version),Batman,Zombie U,Nintendo Land,P-100 and Pikmin. So from my first hand experience no lag,no crashes etc etc. So folks take my advice and go tried for yourself. Where ever theres a Nintendo experience just go.
I agree in some point: the rushed schedule. I don’t want to sound a little bitching to the fans but stop rushing nintendo, it will ruined the system for others. we want to make sure that Nintendo releases the system with no problems at all.
and regarding the input lag, I do not have any experience of it but but if is true, Nintendo better fix it before it comes out. I have faith in Nintendo that they will because they always complete their games and systems before releasing them to the public.

AC3 IS 1080p at 30 fps. Why do people argue otherwise? It’s like, a known fact. I have played the game firsthand and can tell you it’s not 60 fps. However, the WiiU is already confirmed to be able to handle 1080p games at 60 fps, just not that game specifically. Also, AC3 looked way better than the PS3/ 360 versions. I have no idea what this guy is smoking.

My thoughts on this post? Well, it’s hard to say, but I would think that Nintendo will have the console in perfect condition and ready to be launched considering their good rep for having fully-functional consoles and handhelds out before they release. They just need to make sure that they and the 3rd-Party developers will constantly pump out great games to make sure we don’t suffer another shovelware drought that we have had during the Wii’s console lifecycle. I have faith that Nintendo will release the console this holiday season to rack up some really great sales and to not repeat the failed launch of the 3DS. I still love the handheld even more than the DS, but the lack of great games was way too steep.
Oh, and sickr. Please be kind and block the hack known as ‘TheDragon234’ as he is only causing so much trouble in trying to deter people from anything Nintendo-related.
