Xbox 360 On The Cusp Of Overtaking Wii UK Sales Record

Microsoft’s immensely popular Xbox 360 console is on the verge of overtaking lifetime Wii sales in the United Kingdom. The console has sold eight million units in the UK which means that the console will overtake the Wii in just a couple of weeks. Microsoft regional boss Jon Grimes, told MCV that to think they would be the leader in our second generation is an achievement.

“Ten years ago, to think we would be the leader in our second generation is an achievement.”

“We have great people that have been with us a long time, and now it’s about strengthening that team.

“But what has got us to where we are today is not going to be what gets us through the next ten years. Now we’ve also got to start from scratch when thinking about the future. Driving creativity, whether around marketing, retail or new business models, is key for us.”

    1. Exactly! And Xbox is sill on sale. Nintendo are not supporting Wii anymore and I don’t think it should be a competition because if you have sold over 90 million then it should be considered a success. Nintendo was never trying to compete, they just wanna sell games and consoles and hope it sells enough to carry on being a company.

  1. Gratz to Microsoft, even if its only in UK, if i had more money, an Xbox would be my second platform, i will never buy a play station.

    1. I will never buy a Xbox360, not because i think its a bad console…. its just that i dont like many MS exclusives. Im sticking with Nintendo/Sony consoles and PC.

But, the Xbox 360 controller is the best… respect to that.

      BTW congratz MS…

      1. Same here. I don’t like that Microsoft makes you pay to play online. Most of the games on the Xbox are on other platforms and I don’t like their exclusives. I have Wii U for Nintendo games and PC for other games.

  2. Tell you what if Microsoft didn’t charge monthly for internet, I think the business they’d have stole from Sony would have covered any losses.

  3. Good for them… Oh wait this is just in the UK, never mind. Still not 100 million worldwide there captain sphincter. Talk more when you surpass that milestone. Maybe it will be incentive for them to make something more viable than the damn kinect.

    1. Because they enjoy bleeding money to play online? Idk.. It doesn’t have any exclusives to boast with either…

  4. Sickr & Alba can suck my Nuts

All hail the Xbox! All you Nintendorks just wait until the 720 gets released. It will crush the Eww U into smithereens

  5. and how long has the Xbox 360 been out, if i was microsoft i would not advertise the fact that the are only just passing wii sails at the end of there product life cycle. that is not good advertising

  6. In UK the guys for Xbox 360, do much more marketing than Nintendo and Sony. To be honest Nintendo really give up on the Wii 2 years ago. So during 2 years, Microsoft did not get much competition neither from Sony and Nintendo. If you think about the situation, it has take 2 years to Microsoft to catch up with the Wii.

You go to every shop in UK (south/north England, Scotland and north Ireland) you have much more Xbox360 games display than Ps3 and Wii. I went to HMV and I nearly missed the Wii U section as it was so tiny (hence why the Wii u don’t sell very well) . When you have a console/game in your face all the bloody time not wonder why parents kids go and buy it.

Personally I did not buy one and give the fact the console is not as robust as a Wii and a PS3, most of the people who brought 1 xbox360 may have buy a 2nd one…..
