Shin Megami Tensei IV Will Cost More Than The Average Nintendo 3DS Game

shin_megami_tensei_IV_charactersYesterday, Atlus confirmed that role-playing game Shin Megami Tensei IV will be released in North America, exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. Although most titles on Nintendo’s latest handheld initially cost $39.99, Shin Megami Tensei IV will be priced at $49.99 when it arrives in the summer. Does the higher price point dissuade you from getting the game at launch? If not, you can pre-order a copy here.

    1. Arcsys and Atlus are dialgue whores

Their games tend to be heavily text driven. In most their games you get like over 120+ hours worth of dialogue; 30% of which are in-game voice acted and 5%~10% are animated cut-scenes.

      1. Pretty much this. Plus, it’s Shin Megami Tensei. What more could you want? I’m totally in for 50 dollars if it’s as good as Strange Journey or Nocturne.

  1. Maybe they are using one of those high capacity carts? Or it’ll have some goodies like a soundtrack.

  2. Are they using a higher capacity cartridge like with Revelations or are they simply raising the price.

  3. wtf, really, who thinks that this is a middle finger. hey all you fuckers sais atlus, we are going to get ssooo rich of this and oh yea, we are also pissing and shitting on all of your copies

    1. I’m sure they have a good reason for raising the price. However, as someone who has never played a game in the series, I must say this pushes me away from wanting to purchase it quite a bit.

  4. Of course not revelations got tones of negative feed back for it and because people is not goin to buy i will so i can collection it.

  5. Hi capacity cartridge= Higher price, but that= Longer gameplay= Better visuals= Quality game. Bring it!.

  6. Square Enix sometimes sells an RPG at 70 rather than the usual 60, so why hate on Atlus for raising the price from 40 to 50 on this game?

  7. And keep in mind this is a Shin Megami Tensei main game. It has the same, if not greater, production value than its predecessors, which were all released on consoles. Even though this game is on a handheld, it’s quality will probably match that of a console game. I don’t mind paying ten extra dollars for a game of this caliber.

    1. I mean if the game has massive amounts of content then sure, but so does Fire Emblem Awakening or other RPG’s on the 3DS

      1. Or Pokemon, i easily clock in 100-200 hours on each one and that doesnt cost more soooo…again, why?

  9. I’m not going to pay $50 for this game. Sorry Atlus, maybe I can find a special deal and then I’ll get it, but pffft not for $50.

  10. …I’ve never played any of the main games in the series, so I think I’ll wait for either good reviews or a lower price. Can’t get too compulsive, after all ;__;

  11. Never played this series, but I got a little interested after hearing about SMTxFE. Don’t know if I’ll buy it, I’m not much of a fan of most RPG’s.

  12. I don’t see what’s the problem with the price, don’t like the high price, wait for a price drop. Also, it’s to be expected that as games advance in hardware, the prices will go up. And while I haven’t beaten Strange Journey, I know that these games are worth the asking price because of the content.

  13. Etrian odyssey 4 is freaking brilliant so i guess if this is anything like it im sure it will be worth $10 extra

    1. yep. i’ve played only one SMT game and i have nothing but praise for it. truely a brilliant series it WILL be worth that 10 extra dollars.

  15. Nothing to worry about. Coming from Atlus it follows the logic of ”you get what you pay for”.
You can find a lot of console games that can be beaten in less than 10 or even 5 hours at the price of 60$ so really it’s no big deal.

  16. 50 dollars is 38 euro…We pay 45 euro (58 dollars) for all new 3DS games over here. You’re still getting it cheaper than us. You can take the 18 dollars you saved on your last 3DS game having not bought it in Europe and but it towards buying this game.
