Capcom’s Senior Vice President of marketing Michael Pattison has revealed that Resident Evil 7 will see the franchise return to its survival horror roots. Pattison says that company has taken onboard the criticism levelled at Resident Evil 6 by both gamers and the press, and will take that into account on the next game. He also listed both The Last of Us and Tomb Raider as games that have the perfect mix of action and survival.
“We have obviously seen the consumer response and the PR response.”
“There was some great positives out of that, but it was a mixed bag, as we saw from the review scores. We have got to take that on-board, we can’t ignore that, and we have to take that onto the next game when we make the next Resident Evil.
“With Resident Evil 6 specifically, we probably put too much content in there, there were comments from consumers that said it felt bloated. The Leon missions went down very well, and because we did Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS, there was a cry out for us to focus our attention on survival horror, rather than be too many things to all people. You’ll find where we go next will likely be more targeted at our core fanbase.
“A lot is said about the saturation of this zombie, post-apocalyptic survival horror. But it is still alive and well. The Last of Us shows a good direction of what the consumers want. Tomb Raider as well, we spoke to R&D and they looked at that and they enjoyed that experience. I think that proves there is still a strong market for that sort of content.”

Monster hunter 4 is going to break records for Capcom on the 3DS. Only smart move is for them to bring Resident evil 7 and dragons dogma 2 on the WiiU. As of next year it will be a WiiU versus PS4 world. Once PS4 and xboxone are on the market at the same time and people realize the PS4 is a lamborgini and the xbox is a corvette it’s over. Then people would have got mario bros. 3D world, smash brothers and Mario Kart. The 3DS will be approaching 60 or 70 million consoles sold, now rethink your comment.

Ehh not Last of Us, too cinematic for my taste, play Metro or Dead Space 1 and 2. That’s how you make a good survival horror, isolation is key (I know they have been doing this for a while, but I think they should move away from interactive cutscenes. Kinda takes the “horror” experience out of the game).

I don’t see how sales of the games change in any way that the console is or isn’t kiddy. The whole point is that he claims that nintendo wouldn’t try to get this game because they want to be child friendly, when that isn’t the case with all the M rated games that nintendo has on wii U. If we’re going to be realistic about this, RE7 won’t come to Wii U. Capcom will probably try to harness the raw power of the PS4/XB1 in order to deliver a next generation RE experience. Most big developers are very excited about working on these new consoles. Also, there is, as always, the issue of third party sales on Nintendo consoles. Finally, their demographic are traditionally on Sony and Microsoft consoles. All of these are factors.
It’s not a big deal though. Everyone has plenty of time to save up for a PS4 or XB1. Then you won’t be missing out.

Though devs might get lazy and publishers greedy, one on one ports will be easier to do on ps4/xbone, so they might dodge Wii U.
Third Parties do badly on Nintendo consoles, because they always pull some sort of bull in their games, then expect huge numbers in sales. This gen, don’t let the numbers fool you. The difference in power is just about the same as it was in the 6th gen. The Wii U has all the same features as the PS4/ Xbone(visuals wise) Just to a lesser extent. If third parties actually tried, the difference between multiplatform games amongst the three would be so minimal visual wise that normal people won’t be able to tell the difference. But as of now, the wii U install base is the only real reason third parties have for not making games, anything else is just them being lazy.
You are correct the difference between WiiU and Ps4/Bone is the same kind of an difference that Dreamcast and original Xbox had.

Those camera angles are what made Resident Evil. Then they took all the scariness away when they began to follow suit of others and how everyone else did their camera angles.
Bring back that original angle shit and creepy moments and quit trying to make a modern day console game. Go back to the roots and tear some shit up. THEN RE will be scary again.

You know…its very hilarious to hear Capcom saying they’re “listening to fans and media’s criticism over recent RE’s action over horror route” and look what happened after RE5 when they said the exact same thing. Yeah. I know. I’ll believe it when I see it and feel it (horror sense I mean) But as of right now, this is déjà vu of RE5’s post aftermath towards its next sequel.

Capcom, how about you takes notes and learn from what you did in RE: Revelations gameplay wise. Besides its cheesy ass irrelevant story, make a game thats always dark, isolated, grim and creepy along with horrific monsters jumping at you out of nowhere and being overwhelmed by zombies (REAL Zombies and not some intelligent parasite/viral BS) If RE6 was exactly like Leon’s campaign all the way through, then the game wouldn’t be so bad and almost comparable to RE4. RE7 has the potential to f*** up royally again so Capcom, DO NOT disappoint us…again.
i hope the last of us isn’t the only inspiration for resident evil 7. i hope they also go back to resident evil 4 and check out everything they did right. i also hope that 7 has actual horror in it, unlike every other resident evil. they just need horror. i really hope they look to something other than the last of us for the horror, because that game wasn’t exactly ‘horror’ it was more ‘survival-stealth’

I have lost all respect for the Resident Evil team. There was a team where everyone looked to the Resident Evil franchise as the pinnacle of survival-horror now Resident Evil has sunk so low it has to look to copy other games and even then it’s a safe bet it won’t be a good survival-horror game. They need to quit with their hokey stories and focus more on gameplay and new mechanics. I’m honestly not excited at all for Resident Evil 7. I am however looking forward to a Resident Evil Revelations sequel if it appears on 3DS.
