Nintendo Refrains From Social Media Posts In The Wake Of Yamauchi’s Death

All of Nintendo’s social media outlets have posted the same message today, indicating that they will not be posting any news, updates, or promotions in remembrance of former president Hiroshi Yamauchi, who passed away yesterday. Nintendo of America, Nintendo UK, and Nintendo of Europe all posted the same message on Twitter in the last 24 hours, which appears below.

Yamauchi is credited with ushering in a new era of gaming by serving as President of Nintendo when the company first released its iconic Mario and Donkey Kong franchises. He famously gave the young, aspiring artist Shigeru Miyamoto a chance to design Donkey Kong when all odds were against the success of the game. Yamauchi died of pneumonia yesterday at a hospital in central Japan. He was 85 years old.

In remembrance of Mr. Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo will not be posting on our social media channels today.

  1. I’m going to wait for that one Xbox and Sony fan that doesn’t value or respect the life of another human being. To celebrate this moment.

This kind of hit me hard when I saw this yesterday. It’s saddening

    1. What does a Sony and Xbox fan have to do with anything in this matter? I’m a big Nintendo fan, but I have to say some of you guys blow my mind with your ironic tribal attitude against another company. Just to let you know, you have to be foolish just to think of something to use against a fan of another company. You claiming that since they are fans of Sony or Xbox they will celebrate a death (like your humanity is superior to a generalization that you formed in your head) just proves it all too well.

Anyways, sad to see him go, but none the less, R.I.P

  2. They’re doing it wrong again. They should have made a shit ton of posts about him, spreading knowledge about his legacy. Idiots.

    1. Um…you do realise they will honour him, right? But for now, like a minute’s silence and remembrance, they’re just being a little quiet about it. Remember he has a family, and one mourning more than the rest of the Nintendo respecting world right now.

  3. This is what happens when you try to screw with IWATA just ask Gunpei yoko who died “mysteriously” in car crash COUGH he cut his brakes COUGH

  4. OMG, honey… That is like so sad that he like died and stuff. RIP we will totally miss you, now we have Iwata to like deal with… but it could be worse, honey!

  5. I was sad all day yesterday because of this. Still am.

I don’t even want to think about the sadness the world will be feeling when Miyamoto dies. It’s a thought that darkens my soul. It’ll be sad enough when he retires.
