Aonuma Has Spoken To Miyamoto About A Unique Zelda Film Experience

zelda_a_link_between_worlds_triforce

In a discussion with Kotaku, Aonuma has revealed that he has spoken to Shigeru Miyamoto about the possibility of a Zelda film, but that the two would want to make it a completely unique experience and “somehow change what a movie is.” Aonuma went on to say that the two have considered the idea of gamers bringing their 3DS consoles into a theater and making the experience more interactive.

The two legendary Nintendo developers are wise for wanting to change the video game movie formula, as past efforts in the genre have yielded some disastrous results. Movie ideas for Nintendo’s classic franchises seem to pop up every so often, including a recent Metroid film project whose Kickstarter was shut down by Nintendo, and a CGI Zelda film pitched directly to Nintendo. Almost none of these projects ever see the light of day. Would you like to eventually see a Zelda film the likes of which Aonuma and Miyamoto have discussed? Let us know in the comments! Here are Aonuma’s thoughts on a possible Zelda movie:

“This is something that me and Mr. Miyamoto talked about. If we were to make a Zelda title, if we had interest in doing that, I think really what would be most important to us is to be able to play with the format of a movie, make it more interactive, like you’re able to take your 3DS into the theater and that leads you into participating in it somehow. We wouldn’t want to make it the same as any other movie. We want to somehow change what a movie is.”

  1. I liked the Resident Evil-films, so if they can pull off something like they did, but with the same innovation that Zelda brought to gaming, that would be awesome!

  2. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

Has there ever been a good movie that was based on a video game or have they all been horrible?

BTW, REC was way more of a Resident Evil vibe than Resident Evil did o ( 0_o ) o

    1. actually, the professor layton film turned out really well and is officially part of the serie and is mentioned in-game.

    2. SherlockWillFightBilbo

Wreck-It Ralph, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, and a few others.

But for Zelda, I really don’t see it being good. It wouldn’t capture the same epicness of the games. Plotwise, Zelda appears cliched as it’s been using the same plot for the past 25 years: quest to save the princess and kingdom from the great evil. Critics wouldn’t like it, and gamers would hate their beloved franchise being ruined.

      1. My child it already exists, its called Heavy Rain and Beyond which are both horrible games in my eyes. Nintendo I see will make a much better and more enchanting interactive movie

  3. I like the idea of an interactive movie bringing 3ds to the movie theather… sounds like it could’ve something really groundbreaking and also think about all the street passes!

  4. No no no no NO. Fuck “interactivity”. Just give me a great movie-watching experience. I’m so sick and tired of companies thinking you need to drastically change something or add in crap like this to make it more appealing. If a movie is good, it can stand on its own merits and be entertaining without any gimmicks.
    Ugh, Nintendo.

  5. Interesting Nintendo tries to make movies to interactive games and Sony tries to make games to interactive movies.

Wii U can do 1080p @ 60FPS easy, it has games that do this already, Infact the Wii U has twice the amount of eDRAM that’s required to render in 1080p.. But of course the retards don’t know this, bless ’em ; )

            1. Indeed my child you are correct.
I believe these “Trolls” harassing you Nintendo fans is uncalled for but we must let them be for they have a troubled passed.

            2. Yeah, the twats really haven’t looked into the specs fully, hell the fucking Wii U has DDR4 RAM since I lasted checked meaning its more powerful (In terms of RAM) than the XBox One. Kind of funny how that works

              1. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

The way that eDRAM, CPU, GPGPU and RAM work with each other is what gives the Wii the ability to do a lot more than it’s “estimated” specs seem to suggest (bearing in mind that it’s actually custom hardware), making it a very versatile and efficient machine.

Ironically, if the PS3 and 360’s components were configured in the same way as the Wii U, then you would see a substantial performance increase in those machines too, but obviously the Wii U has superior hardware on top of that (x4 the amount of eDRAM as the 360 for a start), performance wise the Wii U blows those two out of the water…

So quoting/comparing a bunch of specs is actually a pretty pointless exercise..

        1. My child Microsoft has damned you, they are no match to the power of the SteamOS and its many powers. The Wii U is none of your business and you should leave it be, if you are angry at a company why don’t you come join us in the Linuxverse and you will see my child that competitions are pointless. What matters is happiness within gaming and the Wii U is showing that. I will not buy the system myself but it is interesting concept non the less.

      1. Interesting concept, I’d really be interested in seeing how this would pan out. Probably wouldn’t work well on pathetic PS4 and Xbox One though. Wii U is like a unique flower, it tries something new and shows that it doesn’t need to be big and strong to be the best flower of its kind.

          1. Yes yes my child I am indeed Zen and I do respect Nintendo for what they have done so far in the gaming industry. Sony and Microsoft need to learn from Nintendo before its too late.

Sony I can see a bright future for them seeing how they are taking pages out of Nintendo’s books but for Microsoft… I predict a horrible fate for them in the near future.

I will remain on Linux for now, the lack of games does not bother me, for I see a great power in Linux gaming.

      2. Your spelling is terrible my child, you must come to the light side of gaming and rid yourself of this demon known as jealousy

        1. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

With all due respect your “righteousness”, one “typo” can not be construed as “terrible spelling”.

If you look at the body of my work here, it’s fairly consistent..

  6. Could be very cool or ver disastrous. They would definitely have to tread carefully with this. At least they’re not pulling an Ubisoft when it comes to making games into movies.

  7. I would love to see a Zelda film! As long as Nintendo is directly involved it’ll probably turn out better than the Mario movie. Scratch that; will turn out better.
