Naughty Dog co-founder and former THQ boss Jason Rubin has boldly stated that Nintendo is “irrelevant” as a hardware manufacturer within the console industry. However, Rubin – in his interview with GameTrailers – quickly followed up by saying that Nintendo is a “worldwide treasure” and legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto could never be topped. But he also mentioned that it’s “a crime that we do not play those games on the systems that we have.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard discussions taking place where Nintendo is deemed as irrelevant in the industry – Pachter claimed so last year and, most recently, Atari founder Nolan Bushnell said the gaming giant “could be on the path to irrelevance.” Do you agree with Rubin’s comments? Partially true, Nintendo makes quite shitty hardware lately in terms of power, but they have some great engineers when you look at how WiiU runs those games by using just 30-40W by being cooled with a tiny fan, and it doesn’t even get slightly warm. But nobody cares about those things. People care about graphics more.

Well I was never on the side of exclusives being on other consoles. Exclusives are there to sell consoles(and the game as well), it would be pretty contradictory to then have exclusives on other consoles.

If someone can afford more than one console, they don’t have right the to beg for exclusives to be on another console. I agree that Nintendo has in terms of hardware. I mean they haven’t had the strongest hardware released since the N64 or heck if you want to count the consoles that ran against them that did or didn’t hit off, they have never had the strongest console since the Master System was stronger than NES, the Neo Geo was stronger than the SNES and the Genesis, technically speaking the Saturn was stronger than the N64 and the PSX, the Xbox was stronger than the Gamecube (given, only slightly) and you all know of the Wii and Wii U dilemma.
Nintendo hasn’t even competed well since the SNES since any console after that (excluding the Wii) got slaughtered by the competition. I don’t see them being irrelevant since they are fucking Nintendo, but Nintendo consoles have always been about the games and not the system itself. I think Nintendo kinda forgot that with the Wii since they pushed motion controls so much but hardly had more than 10 titles on their system that truly used it to its potential like in games Red Steel 2 and Skyward Sword.
No matter what happens, Nintendo will be about the best games as every console after the NES had games that are considered the best of all time and I don’t wanna go through a list with each console since knowledge of their library is a bit rusty.

isn’t it just as much a crime that naughty dog games aren’t on any platform other than sony’s? (i.e. xbox wii u or PC)
or are they maybe just not as good?

Maybe everyone forget Nintendo 3DS is the best selling console in the earth and Nintendo as been in the video game market for many years with highly successful titles and consoles and changed the world of gaming and more specially without Mario the video game industry have been disapeared many centurys ago….

One thing remains for sure. Nintendo will always be different. i say we actually enjoy what Nintendo gives us and ignore these posts.

If Nintendo really were in trouble, then I would be concerned as I’ve been playing their stuff for many years, and yet I am not concerned one bit.
Performance of a console doesn’t mean anything – it’s all about creating definitive experiences and how you use the hardware. I personally think X1 and PS4’s hardware is pointless, because there won’t be any games that need 8Gb of RAM even if the console is deemed future proof. Too much money for stupid specs.
people thing that the ps4 controller is innovative and the the wii u gamepad, how is it that a revised controller “innovative” and not a one that has a screen in the middle innovative, its like saying a floppy disc has more space than today’s hard drive.

Dont be cheap, just buy Nintendo console and play “worldwide treasures” as long as you want. Switching hdmi ports from xbox/ps to wiiu is one button press. So easy.

I dunno about that. PS4 is completely destroying the Wii U on all sides and only the 3DS can stop it. The PS4 already has an amazing selection of games as well and I’ll probably pick up Madden 13 at some point. Should be pretty fun. #Hardcore
