President Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo of America has said he believes that consumers now understand the difference between Wii and Wii U. Primarily due to Wii U-exclusives that utilize the Wii U GamePad – such as The Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 – customers are able to tell both consoles apart, according to Fils-Aime. A few months ago, the executive claimed that the challenges Nintendo’s facing with Wii U are not issues regarding the system’s name.
When the Wii U launched last year, a lot of people didn’t understand it was a whole new console. Are you still dealing with that mistaken perception?
Fils-Aime: That issue has been largely addressed, I think, as we’ve told consumers all the great things you could do with the GamePad as we’ve showed fantastic software like Pikmin 3, and Wonderful 101, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker in HD. The consumer I believe now understands this is a brand new system with brand new capabilities. It has all of the benefits of backward compatibility. And we’re the only next gen system with backward compatibility, so the consumer has this great library of games from Wii, can use them with the Wii U. But now they understand all of the new capabilities that they can have.

By calling it the GamePad instead would have made it harder for sony and microsoft to hype up their Remote play. Consumers would like at the Wii U box and know it wasn’t a Wii attachment. More people would have probably bought it knowing its all about the functions of the GamePad. It’s a great console btw.
They should have called it the Nintendo Stream. The remote-play is the one thing the Wii U has going for it. Even Digital Foundry rated the remote-play experience of the Wii U over the PS3/PS4 and PS Vita.

Trying to do something different and unique is great, unfortunately though Nintendo at this point are just trying to be different for the sake of being different. While nintendo good launch with the wii u(not the best ever but not the worst) it did had a major drought. Nintendo hoped third party would help out like rayman and few others…then things changed with third partys ea left because of the orgins. ubisoft delayed because they thought the sales would increase with it being multiplat…and it sadly bombed..good game. If you try to remove it from the water it will actually jump back in the boiling water. That describes most Nintendo fanatics to a T. Some are more objective than that and actually do acknowledge the problems Nintendo has but feel that somehow Nintendo will turn things around.
Most of us that are old enough and have been gamers since the 1st console wars back in the late 70s-early 80s can already see the writing on the wall. Even some of the younger guys that came along in the 5th generation can understand. I mean, Sony and Microsoft will not only do better than the Wii U did last holiday season, but they will do better than the Wii U has done PERIOD in just a couple of months.
What Nintendo and Nintendo fanatics don’t understand is that a lot of what Nintendo has on the horizon is stuff people are not interested in playing otherwise they would have Wii U’s in force. I’m sure Bayonetta 2, Project X, and Shin Megumi Tenshi X Fire Emblem will be nice games, but that is not nearly enough.

We had the Wii U over at my mom’s place at Thanksgiving, but we had more fun playing Killer Instinct and NBA2K14 on the XBOX One my nephew brought over.

Spinal’s design seems to be 100x better plus he looks and sounds insane. Fulgore design stays very true to his which i was worry about the most. He always had a predator and terminator look. My fav is saberwolf he feels very in ur face
After seeing the full design in the KI art book I am impressed with the direction they went with for him. I can’t wait to see the other characters.
I hope with TJ Combo they give him more of a MMA style. Possibly incorporating some Muay Thai. He did use a Tiger Knee in the previous games. That would be a cool way to give the character more depth.
I don’t even want to think about how Kim Wu is gonna look. That is gonna be crucial. It will also be interesting to see how Cinder is done. I hear that he is the next character to be revealed.

I wouldn’t say it’s a rehash. It actually brings a lot of new ideas to the series. But… it’s YET ANOTHER MARIO am it’s less impressive in almost every way than previous 3D Mario games.

I know Super Mario 3D World is a gorgeous-looking game and the level design is genius. Probably the most densely-packed Mario game of all-time and that is saying something considering how much content was squeezed into SMG1 and 2.
I just don’t care anymore about Mario. I’ve moved on. Nintendo needs to focus more on other franchises for awhile. Tell more about StarFox, Metroid, Kid Icarus, something else. ANYTHING else. How about a spin-off action-adventure style game with Midna from Twilight Princess? I mean Nintendo introduces these awesome characters and then let them drift in oblivion. Where is Wave Race at, and F-Zero? Where’s Crusin USA? Where’s a REAL Pokemon game for the Wii U?

I’ve played Lost World too and from what I’ve playe dti seems fine. I’m not a huge Sonic fan mind you. I think the Sonic Colors was the best iteration of Sonic on a Nintendo console thus-far. Nintendo would have done better to have Sega do a sequel of that on the Wii U.

Imagine if the last year the Wii U was released from day one ( along with the other games ) with: new zelda ( with epic atmosphere like TP ), new metroid ( and here they could make an old school adventure one or a more fps focused game ), new F-zero ( awesome HD graphic with super fast game style ), new starfox ( again, awesome hd world with online multiplayer ) and a new pokemon stadium; I bet that many gamers would have picked up a Wii U if they had more new classic brands to play on it.

Why do attack each other, Its okay not to like a system, but continuing to attack each others is why many people use us to get attention. We try to act like we know the answers when we truly don’t know the end result. I don’t like xboxone, but u don’t see me attacking the xbox one fans, sites or even reviews. I have friends who own stuff i’m not a fan of but don’t bash them for their choice. Gamers should stand by each other instead of making these stupid fanboy walls. We may turn away many people interested in gaming because of our stupid wars. I do feel something need to be changed in many areas of the industry, not just nintendo. If we want the industry to change we must first change ourselves as gamers.

Seriously, it wasn’t until just recently that I started seeing Wii U commercials on tv. And hearing the Wii U name being mentioned. It’s like Nintendo was too depressed to advertise the Wii U until Super Mario 3D World came out.

Fils-Aime is a paid hype-man. He is a wind-up toy programmed by Iwata to pander his narrow-minded agenda to he Western-world. He is told to talk to us as we don’t understand what gaming is or should be about or what it takes to be successful.
Honestly when I think about it, while the success of the Wii was necessary to get gaming from going into another crash when the recession hit, it was the WORST thing that could have happened to Nintendo. That diluted Iwata into thinking that the success of motion-control was the wave of the future rather than a gimmick and was a flash-in-the-pan similar to Furby or Tickle Me Elmo. He never had any idea on how to relate to the Western gamer. Every since he took over Nintendo the shift has been away from a universal approach to that of a complete Easternized-philosophy from the marketing, to the game content, to the actual focus on the company.
I think as long as the Goof Troop is employed as far as the West is concerned console gaming for Nintendo is dead and I’m starting to think that may not even be by accident or do to negligence.

You hit the nail on the head. Iwata is living in a Japanese hubris. Until this man is fired, I don’t think Nintendo will change for the better.
Well, unfortunately as the old adage goes “*BLANK* runs downhill.” Iwata’s poisonous drippings have infected all branches of Nintendo. All the personal and management think just like he does. A complete overhaul is needed at Nintendo and the only way that can happen is with a buyout. Maybe Apple or Disney can step in. It would be a brilliant move by Disney because they could incorporate all of Nintendo’s mascots into their Disney World mythos. Countless billions of dollars could be made from movies based on Nintendo franchises. Just imagine a Mario, Metroid, or Zelda movie done by Disney? How about a StarFox movie. Disney could become a trillion-dollar company! Just kidding, but the sky would be the limit as far as how much money could be made.
Also with Disney’s cash flow Nintendo can make the absolute highest-spec machines they want and not worry about losses on hardware at all. There would be no reason to make hardware less powerful than the competition. They could invest in making the easiest to develop for, yet most-powerful machine so 3rd part studios would have no PUBLIC excuse not to makes games on the Nintendo console.
And Disney certainly understands the Western market and they understand the demographic that Nintendo games target even better than they do. Not only that, because Sony owns Marvel, LucasFilm, ABC, ESPN, and other mainstream entities all those would be at Nintendo disposal. EA would have no choice but to make Star Wars games for the Wii U. Nintendo products would be advertised and showcased on ABC TV shows. The Wii U could get sports games based on ESPN-banded sports. We could see crossover games with all kinds of characters. Imagine a Kingdom Hearts game with characters from Nintendo, Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm?!?!?
This is all pie-in-the-sky type stuff that will never, ever happen, but it’s nice to dream. :)

Well that would only work if it was more powerful than the PS4. It’s hard to sell something as the “Nintendo POWER” when your specs are inferior to the competition. I don’t think the difference is as great as people make it out to be. Probably the difference between the Dreamcast and XBOX at worst in terms of power level. Still, that name wouldn’t work well I think.
What difference would have naming their new console do?
People need to stop being stupid and think “Oh what’s this now”. The console design is different and if people cannot even see the first difference of 1080p over 476/570i then there is something seriously wrong.
Yes Nintendo made a mistake but now they’ve a job of cleaning that up.

I love the Wii U. It is an innovating gaming system. I am glad Nintendo made it. The Gamepad really changes the way games feel, both single player and multiplayer. Keep up the great work, Nintendo

Reggie is deluded beyond belief and needs a slap in the face. He and Iwata just might be the end of Nintendo. Nintendo went downhill after Iwata and Reggie took the helm of the company. The GCN was their last great system.

I was talking to my niece earlier who is in the third grade, and she told me that all of her classmates think that the Wii U sucks because you have to have the Wii to use it. Reggie does not know shit about it’s customers.
