This week’s Christmas charts are in courtesy of Chart Track. FIFA 14 is the number one game this Christmas in the all-formats charts, just beating Call of Duty Ghosts. Interestingly there isn’t a single Wii U or PlayStation Vita game in the top forty. Super Mario 3D World and Wii Fit U are nowhere to be seen. However, Just Dance 2014 for Wii has performed extremely well and is number four in the individual formats chart.

‘FIFA 14’ (+18%) jumps ahead of ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (+7%) just in time to secure the coveted Christmas No1 spot that, since 2007 and ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’, has largely been dominated by Activision Blizzard.
It is not since 2008 and ‘FIFA 09’ that EA last claimed the Official Christmas No1. However, since the chart began 28 years ago, EA have secured by far the highest number of Xmas No1s with 14 (8 of which have been FIFA). ‘FIFA 14’ beats ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ by a respectable 17,000 units with ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ (+92%) also comfortable at No3, up from No5 thanks to retailer price promotions on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. ‘Battlefield 4’ (+17%) has to settle for another week at No4, while ‘Lego Marvel Super Heroes’ ( -17%) at No5 almost gets caught by a buoyant ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+94%), up from No8 to No6.
Only 400 sales separate Warner’s title from Take 2’s record breaker. ‘Just Dance 2014’ slips one place to No7 despite an 18% increase in sales. ‘Need for Speed: Rivals’ (+25%) is EA’s 3rd Top 10 title this week, also slipping one place, down from No7 to No8. PS4 exclusive ‘Killzone: Shadow Fall’, still benefiting from strong sales of the fixed PS4 hardware bundle, makes a Top 10 re-appearance at No9. Another single format title, ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ keeps ‘Gran Turismo 6’ (-5%) out of the Top 10 thanks to a 24% jump in sales

I think everyone who wanted GTA has GTA by now, it’s been out long enough. It’s period of being top in the charts is over – it’ll remain lower down. Portable games struggle to hit the charts this time of year. They’re overshadowed by the major console releases.

Is the insult really necessary? I’m not a fan of CoD and FIFA is fun, but hardly fun enough to put in the top 2. That being said, it’s a little much to insult the whole country’s gaming community. Can’t we just disagree without putting them down?

60-70% (just a guess) of gamers don’t have taste, because they’re the casual market.
The casual market makes up a huge proportion. They buy a couple of games a year, that’s it.
But the question should be “Who’s not buying the quality games?”.
Have you bought Zelda? Mario? Bravely Default? Wonderful 101? Pikmin? Fire Emblem?
Even if you said no to just 1 of them, you’re part of the issue good games never end up on top, and this stuff always happens.
Real gamers will whine but never actually buy the fucking good stuff when it comes out. If even 1/3 of 3DS owner bought Zelda, it would be on top. But they haven’t, have they?
Isn’t that a bigger problem? That so many people own things like the 3DS, yet DONT buy the games that are amazing? It applies to every console.

Super Mario 3D World is selling so well,that they’ve jacked the price up by 5 euros since I bought it at my retailer.
Also Wii U is selling at a fairly decent pace.

The amount of casual gamers everywhere outweighs actually people who care about good games. COD:G has been called out by even the most avid players as a bad game. Still number 1. Because the casual market is huge.
Sales don’t stop quality though, and obviously WiiU wouldn’t be at the top, no-one owns one.
Although Zelda should be on there.
In terms of games that deserve to be at the top, Bravely Default needs to be on this list, that game is fucking incredible.

Lets just see how Mario Kart 8 does, especially with the fact that Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart Wii both still sell well here, I know they aren’t even in top 40 when compared to other games when seperated into consoles, but I have a good feeling about it. Just get a good Mario Kart 8 ad which also shows a Mario Kart 8 bundle aswell as another that shows off previous Wii U titles aswell as the Wii U difference, like America’s current ad.

WiiU sold slightly more than the XB1 during the same time frame last year. Wii U on Dec 8 2012: 1,817,166 XB1 on Dec 7 2013:1,575,199.
