Analyst Predicts Nintendo Will Lower Wii U Sales Forecast Again

An analyst has predicted that Nintendo will once again lower its Wii U sales forecast. Although the company expects to sell nine million Wii U consoles by the end of its 2014 fiscal year, research analyst David Gibson says he thinks that figure will be lowered to 4.3 million, even though Super Mario 3D World – which was released toward the end of November – probably helped drive Wii U sales in December.

Alba needs to FACT CHECK! This isn’t real. Nothing was said by Nintendo. Why hasn’t this story been deleted yet? Poor journalism at its best.

            1. It is some random guy on twitter who tweets random news/gossip/fake Nintendo stories. No journalistic integrity on writing this story AT ALL. Very pathetic.

              1. Goddamn you whiny bitch. We heard you. You said what you wanted to say, you got your bottle, now shut the fuck up and go to sleep!

    1. according to vgchartz, wii u is now at 5.2m units, so it would be stupid to forecast a million below, what you have already sold

      1. so you’re saying nintendo doesn’t really know how many they’re selling? … either their right, and it’s not selling … or their wrong and they’re the last to know anything about their own company. either way … it’s bad.

        1. OF COURSE THEY KNOW; this news is shit, the “estimates” are saying that the wii u is at 5.2m units, maybe mor maybe less, my point is that Nintendo knows exactly how many units sold they got, so it would be stupid to put a lower sales estimate, it simply stupid

          1. FY 2013/2014 is from start of march to end of february or something like that. It does not include any sales from before that (which was from launch of the Wii U and winter months.

      2. This isn’t Nintendo’s estimate, it’s the analyst’s estimate. Alba just is too stupid to realise it. Nintendo still has it at 9 million and won’t lower it just out of the blue. They only give their estimates at investor meetings, the following which will be in March/April

    2. This is a fake story. Alba doesn’t know how to fact check. The “source” is some random guy on twitter who posts false news stories about nintendo.

        1. Learn to read? Same goes for you, douche. You’re right that this is coming from an analyst- the problem is that this article doesn’t state that point. It specifically states that this news is coming from nintendo, when they had nothing to do with it, and doesn’t even mention the name of the actual analyst.

    3. Dude, YOU be realistic. Wii U sold more than one million last year, and they’re already so close to 4.3 million because they sold 3.91 million. All these new games coming out such as X, Bayonetta 2, MK8 and Smash Bros, I expect Wii U sales to reach the 6.3 million mark by 2014.
Besides, a fucking tweet is an unreliable source to whoever the idiot is that reported this article; have you not learned anything in research class?

    4. You know what, disregard my previous comment. Fiscally, this is realistic, but the blogger still needs to fact check,.

  1. Pingback: Nintendo Lowers Wii U Sales Forecast | Gamerz N Geekz

    1. They want this number to be the number of consoles they sell within the year 2014, not the total number since its release.

  2. This information is inaccurate. Wii U sales already reached a total of 4.30 million as of last November.

  3. Nobody cares, our empire is on the rise and nothing will stop us!

Except mother nature or some alien force…

We will submit to the rule of these alien commanders and accept their technology to improve our next generation consoles by 56.000.000.000%…

  4. The selection and presentation of news on this site is still nice, but the inaccuracy got to a level where it is really the time to look somewhere else.

  5. ahhhhh does it really matter, the piece if shit is not even going to make it past 2015. so now it seems nintendo FINALLY is figuring out that wii u is a fail, they have ALL their games coming out in 2014, all their system sellers coming out in 2014 and they only think they will sell 4 million!! HAHAHAH it looks like nintendo finally realizes how crappy and a mistake the wii u was. IWATA. YYOOOOUR FIRED!!!!! the sales are probably going to be like 2 million, YOUR FIRED IWATA!! so what about after 2014 when wii u only has like a few games left if that!!
    http://youtu.be/SQ1nGH4VBEQ?t=6s

rip wii u and all the fanboys start crying!!

        1. Actually the CPU is faster, the GPGPU is different, there is RAM surronding the MCM and on the GPGPU as well.

What of Wii U do you know? Also PS3 was 720p only, Wii U is 1080p.

Once again someone who knows nothing of the hardware. Go back to school!

          1. WiiU also can run games better if Devs take their time with the PowerPc architecture. I believe that is the reason why WiiU has so many games running in 60fps compared to Ps4/One which use x86 which allows shitty devs like Ea to put unpolished turd like Bf4 for them.
Nintendo is using the same tactic with PowerPc architecture that they had with N64 which is to challenge the good devs to make good games for their hardware, thats why PlatinumGames(best 3rd party dev) supports them and has games with no problem runnin in 60fps on their hardware.

            1. LOL PLATINUM GAMES BEST THIRD PARTY LMAO THEY CAN MAKE GAMES RUN AT 60fps BUT THE GRAPHICS LOOKS TOTALLY SHITTY JUST LOOK AT WONDERFUL 101, LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THAT NAMCO GAME CALLED TANK! TANK! MAYBE BECAUSE THEY BOTH WERE ORIGINALLY PLANNED AS A WII TITLES.

              1. Having a game with 100 detailed models running at 60fps + a ton of other shit going on at the same time is no easy task.

          2. SO WII U CAN DO THIS AND THAT BUT WHY ALL THE FUCKING GAMES LOOKS LIKE LAST GEN (PS3, XBOX 360) EVEN ZOMBIU GAME MADE FROM SCRATCH ON WII U LOOKS SHITTY COMPARED TO ANY CoD GAMES RELEASED ON PS3.
WHEN I SEE A GAME THAT BLOWS MY MIND I WOULD EAT MY WORDS. FOR NOW AND THEN WII U WEAK.

AND I OWN A WII U AND OVER 20 TITLES SO DONT CALL ME TROLL.

AND DONT COME HERE SAYING HOW AWESOME MARIO LOOKS IN HD BECAUSE I DONT CARE. THATS NOT NEXT GEN FOR ME.

            1. Owning a Wii U doesnt mean you are not a troll, even Eczema has a Wii U, yet he is the biggest troll in the history of this site, the Wii U may not be next gen for you but it is technically classified as an eighth gene console,

            2. Well that’s obvious.

Ubisoft were not sure on what they were doing with ZombiU, and even I think that was unpolished.

The reason why none of the games look any better is due to them being direct ports from 360 with no optimisation whatsoever, therefore the games don’t look any better and lead people into thinking it cannot do anything.

Pointless porting something over as it’s not using the power that the console can really pull off. I think you’ll find the Project CARS will provide you with something that it can really do.

If you knew anything about video game development, then you’d have thought about your comment in more details, but seeing as you don’t it’s no surprise you left the comment.

            3. If developers drove the eDRAM on the console really well, then the visuals of the game would look very good. Take Mario 3D World – that game uses the consoles proper power.

I reckon if Ubisoft learned the console and actually did something good with it, then it would have done a lot better, but they didn’t. Not because they didn’t have the resources, but simply because they didn’t put the effort in.

Pikmin 3 is another good example. All of the games so far are putting more effort into the CPU when it should be going to the GPGPU for max performance.

Hell even the “P” in PowerPC means Performance.

            4. The “next gen” argument you present is shit, graphics don’t make the gen, the hardware succession is the generation. Enjoy your shitty games that look great but have no depth or originality! Same exact thing, over and over. Atleast with Mario, new content and mechanics are added… COD is the same regurgitated crap year after year. Oh wait, you got a dog? Saweeeeeeet! That changes everything!

            5. There is this little key next to the “A” called “Caps”. You probably accidentally pressed it. Press it again and see if your text doesn’t come out properly after that. You’re welcome.

  6. So basically the sales are going to be like dreamcast. Dreamcast sold 10 million in 2 years, WiiU will be the same, if their forecast is correct.
By predicting quite low sales means that no system seller games will come this year. Probably most of the games that were announced for 2014 will be delayed until 2015.

    1. This is a fake story. Alba doesn’t know how to fact check. The “source” is some random guy on twitter who posts false news stories about nintendo.

  7. This is based off of an analyst’s tweet that is forecasting what he THINKS Nintendo is going to do, not based off of any actually information from Nintendo.

It’s not like I would expect the people who run this site to actually check their source material before they post it. I’ve been coming here long enough to know better than that. Still, it is rather embarrassing.

  8. It’s based on another “analyst”‘s prediction. No where in this article is there a link to Nintendo actually stating this.

    What a bad article.

    1. lol ok. for me its whether they are fun once I try them in a shop and at least one decent game for me to play until the rest come out.

  9. Out of all the last gen and current gen home consoles out, i just play the wii and wii u the most. The drought when the console launched felt so bad but im glad to have a great amount of games

  10. This article aside.
Nintendo has been very quiet about anything new coming to Wii U, last one was just something that could be considered as early concept.

Even though Reggie promised 2014 would not be as dry as 2013, we still don’t know any exact release dates for games.
Nothing this month, and Donkey Kong next month.
    After that, nothing solid.
I hope the rumors for Bayonetta 2 first half release is correct, wont be needing anything else for the rest of the year.

    1. This is a fake story. Alba doesn’t know how to fact check. The “source” is some random guy on twitter who posts false news stories about nintendo.

      1. I know, I read the comment, hence ignored the article in my comment, doesn’t really change anything I said though.

  11. I’ve been coming to this site for a while now, and it’s been shabby before. But this article is so bad that it’s given me cause to comment here for the first time. First of all, this isn’t a forecast for total units sold “by the end” of the fiscal year- it’s a guess at how many units will be sold WITHIN the 2014 fiscal year ALONE. There is an enormous difference between those two statements.

Secondly, and most importantly, THIS IS NOT A FORECAST FROM NINTENDO!!! It’s just one analyst’s opinion on how the year will shake out for wii u, and it’s based on zero actual information from Nintendo. I know that this is just a fan site, but come on! How hard is it to actually look at the source your story links to before you post crap like this to your website? A third grader could do a better job. And I hate ripping on people like this, but you have to realize that posting false information on a “news” outlet can actually do a lot of damage.

  12. If Nintendo wants to sell Wiiu systems all they have to do is make Pokemon Z a Wiiu exclusive. A version with HD graphics running on the Wiiu would have consoles flying off the shelves.

    1. Pokemon Z will never be a Wii U exclusive, they only Pokemon games that are suitable for the U are not main game series, Pokemon’s name even says it all, “Pocket Monsters” they are best played on a handheld on the go so you can battle with people anywhere, anytime

    1. yeah I don’t think its true if they have that many units sold, we will find out wii u sells at the end of the month

    2. This is a fake story. Alba doesn’t know how to fact check. The “source” is some random guy on twitter who posts false news stories about nintendo.

  13. I thought the original forecast was 9 million for this fiscal year, which doesn’t even include the 3 million consoles sold in 2012. Ie: they’ve sold 1.5 million of the projected 9 million.

I don’t care what they forecast, they aren’t pulling it off. Unless they forecast negative shipments from Europe.

  14. I’m sure they can sell 6.8m by the end of 2014 if they actually release every games they promised to release this year.

  15. Lmao, wow. Look at all the perfect posters in this article. It’s really funny that everyone’s hating on Alba and always telling MNN how to do their job.

Guess you folks have nothing better to do except try and salvage what pride you have in yourselves by being mean to the bloggers on this site. For God’s sake, you guys act like Alba makes millions of dollars and should be dedicating his/her life to being a 100% perfect blogger.

Disagree with the article, fine, but have some professional respect (as some of you did) and stop being fucking assholes to the someone who probably gets paid peanuts (if anything at all) to try and provide a place we can get news and rumors. If I were Alba, I’d post a “Fuck you” article, and ban us all to hell, then deactivate the comment section.

So yeah, I’d suck as a MNN blogger.

    1. Nobody asks the 1.000.000th blogger to start another blog.
Sorry but, do you have an idea of how many blogs are out there? How much information overload?
If users need something it’s filtering and selection, the last thing needed is another blog, and especially with inaccurate information. Otherwise why coming here? If you just want to report the news, Google News does already a better job.
If you really want to get in touch with people, try to do something useful, post less and put more care in your contents. And listen to their feedback: this is not the first time readers of this blog complain about inaccuracy. If you don’t pay attention to people’s feedback, they’ll eventually go somewhere else.

  17. Third rate journalism, bad site.
It makes no sense to discuss on the sales estimates and conditions of the Wii U in this thread: this thread is and should be only about how much this article is inaccurate and unprofessional.

  18. If you follow the link in this article [“has been lowered”], you will arrive at David Gibson’s twitter feed. While the placement of the link presents this as the source for this information, if you visit Gibson’s feed you will find that he is unaffiliated with Nintendo. In fact, he recently tweeted again to clarify this (presumably as a result of this misconstrued reporting). Here is the contents of that tweet: “David Gibson ‏@gibbogame
Nintendo -the 4.3m wiiu number is my forecast, company guidance is 9m,sorry if i wasn’t clear”

    This post should be retracted.
