Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has given us another sneak peek into the 3DS and Wii U game showing off legendary Pokémon Palkia. Smash Bros. fans may remember the Pearl mascot from Brawl in the Spear Pillar stage of the game, but this time around the ‘mon is not just wreaking havoc in the background.
In the Wii U screenshot, Palkia’s emerging straight from a Pokéball and wastes no time getting down to business, unleashing its signature move while newly announced Lucario waits in the wings. Here’s what Sakurai had to say on Miiverse:
“Pic of the day. Palkia appeared in the Spear Pillar stage of the previous game…but now it’s coming out of a Poké Ball?! Here’s Palkia’s signature move, Spacial Rend!”

What about the stage in the background. Looks like galaxy, is that old news?
I think it was shown on Rosalina’s reveal
No. Rosalina was revealed far after the Galaxy stage.
Duh it is Mario Galaxy stage. But this is about Palkia revealed and kicking ass. C:
This pretty much confirms Spear Pillar is not returning as a retro stage
Dude, Sakurai even said he probably won’t be able to add retro stages…
I love how people put words in Sakurai’s mouth. Sakurai never confirmed that there would be “no retro stages,” he never confirmed that there would only be “35 characters,” he never confirmed that “Ice Climbers is getting cut for being too hard to implement in 3DS,” etc etc.
All these little things that people say Sakurai confirmed is not true at all. He never said no retro stages.
In fact, I would bet that there WILL be retro stages. There always are and they are easy to include. Spear Pillar just won’t be one of them.
Your comment about 35 characters, Sakurai said don’t expect a bigger roster then brawl. There wont be more then 40 characters.
You’ll never know.
If anything, I would be discussing if that move that Palkia’s doing, Spacial Rend, is simply one slash or if it is multiple slashes or if Palkia moves around on the stage etc. It looks too easy to dodge.
I’m wondering these things, because in Brawl the Pokemon were incredibly weak and could almost never K.O a playable character.
I miss the deadly Pokemon from Smash 64 and Melee :(
…’mon?
Ugh.
I would like to see darkrai in the game

I’d love to see Aegislash as a pokeball; Protects the player from the next attack using King’s Shield, grounds the said attacker, and uses Sacred Sword for a solid 30% Knockback. on the poor soul.
Why no sixth gen?
This site looks better now.
