IGN is reporting that the Wii U sold more units in its first three weeks than the PlayStation 4 did for the same time period. However, it should be noted that the Wii U launched during the holiday season in Japan when festive shoppers were out purchasing gifts. IGN blames the poor sales of both consoles on the massive adoption of smartphone gaming in Japan, with the Nintendo 3DS lagging behind the Nintendo DS’s performance, and PlayStation Vita performing badly compared to the PlayStation Portable.

No there’s just for Japanese gamers to play on PS4. The very few games on the platform are catered towards western gamers. In Japan they don’t need PS4’s when they can play great Wii U games, the PS3 is still great and is getting super popular games like Persona 5 and they also have great handhelds like 3DS and Vita. They simply have no need to buy PS4’s however that will change in the future.
Im in japan now, everyone plays consoles, theres even areas where people on lunch break go play 3ds and psp together. everyone has a phone as well but they wouldnt have 7 storey game shops if they werent selling

Another is that out of the launch games the only one that really fits the average japanese gamer was knack and that was still iffy. Meanwhile wii u has several great games.

There is plenty of games coming to it that are not coming to the Wii U, such as Kingdom Hearts 3 and Batman:Arkham Knight. Heck, people may be buying them because they already have a Wii U and want to continue playing their favorite game series. Some in that situation will drift to PS4, others to the Xbox One.

Because of personal preference. Some people hate monster hunter because they find it repetitive. Others just don’t like RPGs. This is also why Call of Duty sells well and the main Mario games sell well. Call of Duty fans prefer to play shooters and Mario gamers prefer platformers. Is one inferior compared to the other? No, simply because they are different genres proves nothing. Maybe in complexity of game, but they are still both players who enjoy games. If there was one definite superior genre, we’d only have one genre.

I think it’s a sad news but again the PS4 is just 2or 3 months old in Japan. On the gamer’s side If I am a Japanese gamer I would feel betrayed by Sony in the first place. How come Sony (Japanese company) launch the console in Japan after the USA and Europe? Furthermore what Sony propose on their PS4 to the Japanese market in term of game?
The PS3 is very popular and will still be more popular as long as developer do not make the jump from PS3 to PS4 (same apply to xbox 360 and xbox 1). When you think PS3 games are not compatible with PS4 and developer still release game for both platform it does not take a genius to understand consumers will not buy a PS4…
As for xbox 360 giving the rate of failure they selling a lot but the stupid consumer in USA and Europe has to buy 3 or 4 consoles.The Japanese understood that console is low quality and the xbox one will not be better (in term of reliability) hence why the console is not performing very well.
It’s amaze me how the media don’t ask to Sony to stop selling this console and think about putting they IP on smartphone. Where is Patcher when we need me? I hope Sony and Nintendo managed to be successful in the long run.

Don’t get too excited guys. This is good news to be sure, but it can’t last. The PS4 is about to rock and roll once the exclusives come in. I would defend Nintendo more, but the fact that Yoshi was not confirmed today was pretty disappointing. That’s not what I expect from Nintendo! Still, just wait until MK8 and Smash Bros to start moving consoles before the Xbox Won appears to wrap things up.
