Analyst David Gibson has revealed that the Wii U only sold 70K units during the month of March in the United States. The Xbox One sold 311K, but was beaten by the PlayStation 4 which was the best-selling console that month. The Nintendo 3DS managed to sell 159K and the original Wii sold 28K.

The worst performing MK is MKDD, which is on the GC, which also struggled to sell; just like the Wii U.
It has a history of selling good, not of being a console mover. You really need to learn your history, Mario has been a console mover and look at NSMBU, its not really going well.
There’s no real new games out for it this month that would incite mass purchasing. Heck, even MS’s heavily advertised Titanfall failed to increase the XBone sales by all that much, at least compared to PS4.
When Mario Kart comes out next month I’d imagine sales will pick up, especially if they do bring out that rumoured bundle

I think one factor could be the fact that Vitas haven’t been in stock many places for a few months since the new Vita is coming out in May.

These are good games yes, but how will mario kart 8 one game make the Wii u continue to sell well, may’be for a few weeks but it probably won’t save the system if so many wanted the game why have none bought a Wii u already.
New SMBU: The game was really similar to its predecessors, so my guess is that there wasn’t really much hype around it like it was with the one on the DS, and Wii (which introduced multiplayer in a platform Mario game). TBH, it wasn’t really a good game to introduce the system with.
Wii Sports Club: A game that is bought exclusively on the NIntendo eShop, and can’t be seen in stores. It’s undermarketed, and doesn’t have the appeal that Wii Sports had years ago.
Super Mario 3D World: At this point, Nintendo have had a lot of negative publicity with the Wii U. While this game is great (I personally love it), it didn’t have the ‘OMG’ factor (hype) that Super Mario Galaxy had, and it could’ve been marketed better.
Now, how will Mario Kart 8 do? Let me say this first: I don’t think it will put the Wii U ahead of the PS4 (in the long run, at least), but the game has created a lot of hype among gamers. And with the right marketing, reaching out for the younger generation (which is often what Nintendo aims for), I believe Mario Kart 8 will put the Wii U in a much better position than earlier, and getting it more known.

Look at all the other Mario kart games and how much they have sold, do you really think the MK8 will reach anywere near 30+ million units when the Wii U is doing almost as bad as the GCN? Now of course that doesnt mean that MK8 will do bad because moving 6-10 Million Units is amazing for software but to say that MK8 will be the Wii U’s saving grace, well, thats just grasping at straws.

Maybe a new redesigned Wii U, when I first saw the Wii I thought it looked too big and clunky and very similar to the Wii console. PS4 won the cool factor with the PS4. And Nintendo needs to stop making just family friendly games, the people who buy consoles the most are men and teenagers, and those want blood and violence in their games, not that it’s the best thing on a game, but it’s what people want.

I guess I feel like I have to put in an opinion. I’ve seen multiple times people saying all the Nintendo fans have already bought a Wii U. What a dumb statement. I know of a couple dozen that have yet to get theirs despite wanting one. The reason why is simple, either lack of money, or lack of THAT GAME. The Wii U has a lot of games? Yeah it does. I have like a dozen or so retail myself. I just ordered Ninja Gaiden 3 for 14 bucks by the way.
Anyways, my point is this. Most all fans of Nintendo aren’t major fans, and they aren’t fans of all Nintendo games. I’ve seen a lot of people who are fond of a few certain games, and some that can’t resist that one franchise. The majority of them have either one of two weaknesses though, Zelda and Smash Bros. Both of these games will win over the rest of those idle Nintendo fans on their own, rest assured. Meanwhile MK8 will be a very strong pull for the more casual audience, the audience of children, and Nintendo fans also just on it’s own.
I still think it’s too early to tell how the next generation of sales will play all. Sure it looks better so far for PS4 and somehow also the Xbone, but we should all already know that this is a marathon race, not a sprint. Get over the baby hate over Wii U just because Nintendo is so successful but they don’t do what you want them to. Give up on thinking the Wii U is doomed also. It’s impossible, the GCN had to put up with even worse bullshit just because it had small discs and made people think they games were smaller because they are that fucking stupid. That and other things, it still made money. It’s a cherished console. Also, eventually GCN games should be available to download on Wii U. So yeah, see you down the road trollfags.

I always buy a Nintendo console because I know the games I want the most, some Mario games & Zelda, are coming to that console. Those two being my biggest weaknesses when it comes to Nintendo.
Exactly. Once the Wii U gets THAT GAME from the series that they cherish the most, they’ll buy a Wii U and that game on the same day because they most likely have money set to the side so they can afford both on the same day or will buy the bundle that gives the game for free. If the PS4 & Xbox One didn’t have the few games that people really wanted, they wouldn’t be selling at all right now. In fact, some, if not most, people haven’t bought those systems yet because they are also waiting on THAT GAME to come out.
PS4/Xbone has it easier with their extremely predictable and controlled fan-base. They’ve basically proven to us that all they need is a pretty FPS.and Madden/FIFA and there you have it. You won a ton of the casual audience that doesn’t care for Nintendo right there.
I love playing shooters, I’ll always love Halo 1 and 2 with all my heart. I even have Blops 2 on Wii U, my only CoD title. I can’t stand people who just play FPS/Sports games though. What a waste.

If Nintendo makes a 3D fighter using Pokemon that has RPG elements with upgradable special moves, the Wii U would sell many units. If COD can add RPG elements to online shooter why can’t Nintendo make a 3D online fighter with Pokemon involving RPG elements? Also, I will buy special edition 3DS for Super Smash Bros. U and special edition Wii U for Super Smash Bros. U.
Here at my retailer (one of the largest in here) sales of PS4 has already started slow down.
Now that the console is steadily available.
Xbone not been doing too hot though, they already cut 50€ off from every bundle and on the console itself.
Wii U is currently selling slow, only few consoles a week.
But these are for investors to worry about, I just wonder what is taking so long with the games.
