Nintendo Is Accused Of Patent Infringement With Wii U

Nintendo is currently engaged in a lawsuit with Secure Axcess who claim that the Kyoto based company infringed on a patent concerning the Wii U. The patent was filed by the company back in 2000 and was published in 2003 and is for a “multiscreen personal computer display method and apparatus, or a computer which provides display capabilities on more than one screen.”  Secure Axcess is under the impression that Nintendo infringes on this patent with the Wii U GamePad. The company also says it’s suing major video game retailers such as GameStop, Target, Amazon and Best Buy for selling the console to consumers “without license or authorisation.”

  1. Yea btw guys? They also sued Nintendo for the same reason with the DS, DS Lite, DSI, DSI XL, 3DS, and 3DS XL. ‘Nuff said

  2. Lol next they’ll sue ATI and Nvidia for allowing multiple screen usage on graphics cards and laptops.

    Dafuq

      1. Yes! Let’s patent every day words so no one can use them without paying us first! lmao Some people try to patent or sue others over such silly things.

      1. Irrelevant and yet everyone envy their very existence including your double standard dumbass.

Anyway, this is nothing new. Another year, another lame ass company nobody heard nor cares about targets Nintendo for the billionth time over some imaginary “patent infringement” that doesn’t exist just like with the Wii Motion Controller which it failed, DS..also failed and 3DS 3D screen that failed too. This is yet another smaller failed business coming out of thin air suing Nintendo for their money because they wanna cry “ripoff” as an excuse to make their dead business be heard and float without real effort.

If Nintendo infringed this so called “patent” of theirs, then Sony, Microsoft, Apple with their PC Display apps and even Android who is imitating the same function should be sued as well since its similar.

Funny you should ask yourself is why Nintendo happens to the ONLY party being sued over the same shit other companies are copying openly? Because these companies hilariously think Nintendo is an easy target for their billions of dollars they have in their pockets.

lol This is just too funny and I can’t wait to hear the usual result of these washed up motherfuckers fail to sue Nintendo over an issue that was never there…again.

Contradiction detected, if they were irrelevant, than why would everyone be wanting to assassinate them? That means they are relevant. Your lack of intelligence is exposed.

      3. If they’re irrelevant, than why does Sony keep ripping them off? why is everyone trying to get rid of them? Irrelevant means something means nothing to a certain thing, in this case gaming, Nintendo means something, and that my friend, is how you use Logic, I know it’s an alien topic to you

    1. They’re just trying to cut into Nintendo’s success. This isn’t the first company to do so & it won’t be the last.

  3. Nintendo Or Nothing!

I look forward to seeing the results of this, when it says that Secure Axcess lost the lawsuit. Nobody wins Nintendo in these lawsuits.

      1. That was only because of the fact that the lawyers found out what Universal said when they were sued about King Kong (namely, how Universal’s lawyers won the lawsuit because they’ve declared King Kong to be in public domain).

The pointed out hypocrisy/irony is how they lost.

  4. Again this is the nearly the sams bullshit with the 3DS. Is Nintendo really stealing stuff or are they just being sued for no readon?

    1. No. They’ve been sued more times than I can count and which..ALL FAILED because Nintendo is always careful to research tcehnology and patents before doing anything.

All of these hasbeen companies are just after their money. Same ol routine. Smaller “nobody” company blindly and ONLY target Nintendo over some similar feature EVERY OTHER MAJOR COMPANY IS USING for easy money because they think its easy since people blindly hate Nintendo for what they do and make and its not stealing ideas. Its because of their image.

Just like the Wii, DS & 3DS which all of those lawsuits failed, this one is no different and will fail too and more will come and fail in the future. These “fixed” lawsuits are so hilarious every time I hear about it.

  5. Nintendo is my Blood

hahaha… what? Now? NOW THEY ARE SUING NINTENDO?!

The Wii U has been out for just over 1 and a half years and only NOW they are suing for what they believe is infringing their copyright? So are this morons saying that any device with more than one screen is stealing their idea?

    1. That’s is what I was thinking. I find it VERY odd how they’ve only just done this. It’s like they didn’t even know the console was out.

      1. I fail to understand the connection there? They could have filed a complaint against Wii U while it was in development…..

        But they’ll still lose.

    1. typical nintendo not putting serious effort into building consoles with next gen specs instead the look for the cheapest specs around from ibm just to make another barebone console.

      1. Typical Playstation or xbone fanboy looking for any excuse to mock nintendo, good one, said nobody ever

They don’t need to, because my PC ass stomps your pathetic Xbox One, while a Wii U can put up a better competition times more than what your Depressingly low IQ will let you count.

  6. Are these guys idiots? They didn’t win any of their suits against Nintendo with things like the DS.. So why do they think they would win against the Wii U? They also have to be completely stupid to think they can sue all those other retailers for selling the Wii U also..

Some people have too much time and money on their hands because this is a good example of someone wasting both.

    1. I honestly don’t know how they can be in business after all the court costs they have to pay. Also, this area of Texas seems to pump out patent lawsuits, so I think it’s a patent lawyer hunting for work.

  7. I fail to see how GameStop, Amazon, etc. fit into this… it’s one thing to sue Nintendo for infringement of your product but suing the people who sell it is completely off-base.

That would be like a bread company suing another bread company saying “we invented sliced bread” and suing anyone who sold the second company’s bread.

  8. if you didn’t add the gimmicky gamepad and made a true next gen console you could have been successful nintendo. third party devs dont want the gimmick, people dont want gimmick and retrailers dont want the gimmick also.

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

The N64 and the Gamecube says otherwise…

Take a look into our gaming history…

Never has any of the most powerful console of its generation won anything…

          1. Gotta get that fool Iwata into gear and cut the misunderstanding of America BS out. Let Reggie take charge of his side and watch him ask Rockstar port GTA5 to Wii U which I will definitely buy, gimped or not, if it happens.

            1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

              You got it all wrong…

The NA Treehouse Facility is responsible for the inaction that has befallen the west, specially our NA territories…

Lord Iwata’s problem is his arrogance…

They should both learn from Lord Shibata…

    2. lol If Xbox One wasn’t clinging to Kinect & forcing it upon people, it could cut it’s price down & sell more. The “gimmick” thing goes both ways, dumbass.

      1. but the xbox one still has next gen specs and still getting support. microsoft didn’t downgrade hardware over the kinnect.

        1. X1 has current, 8th gen specs (it’s out & far from futuristic). Nintendo was the 1st to release a system in the 8th gen, w/ power greater than PS3 (the most powerful of the last gen), so of course the late-comers are going to up their game. Hel, after the original PS launched, Nintendo skipped 32-bit & went to 64-bit. In the 6th gen, Dreamcast released 1st. PS2 came, & was more powerful. But then Gamecube & Xbox released w/ more power. Unless they were in some sorta hardware cabal, the 1st to launch (especially a yr. in advance), is going to have lower specs, though oddly Wii U uses newer tech (PowerPC, & computes smarter, not harder than the 8th gen twins).

Also, Nintendo believes in diminishing returns & pacing themselves (plus, they want to try making a profit on hardware). But, apparently, the masses are easily suckered this gen by shiny audiovisuals that have improved little since the capabilities of the 6th gen consoles. Graphical improvements are to be expected, but there’s no big leap this time, & true games need not rely so heavily on graphics.

Yeah, too bad Nintendo didn’t edge out younger gamers & try to dupe the masses w/ hardcore audiovisuals. They really need the money.

        2. Next gen specs that blows up and can’t do 1080p..hell, it can’t even break pass 900p.

Try way better next time to make Xbox One less of a overpriced turd than it is now. And as for the gimmick, ever heard of Kinect or you’re just ignorantly pretending its some special camera that no one has ever seen before and missed the PSEye from PS2 days and other various cameras that existed long before that garbage came out of the gutters of the back of someone’s damaged head?

        3. Technically speaking x86 is a downgrade, not an upgrade. Why they chose what they wanted I have no idea.

          I certainly wouldn’t have used x86.

          1. Its an old, heavily dependable architecture that has its sure limits. Look at what happened to Xbox One when it blew up or early PS4s breaking down.

The only technical issues I see in Wii U is casual minor freezes and slight lag and load times which all have been improved in time. Other than major technical faults or just BLOWING UP, Wii U is the most functional console and for its hidden power, is worth the price.

The only reason why PS4 is leading the sales without any reall good games is the high end specs hype which fooled so many morons its unbelievable to realizw how many idiots there is today.

x86? What fucking computer system uses that outdated shit today anyway beside the dyanmic duo of dumb hype?

            1. I’ve said it before. It only takes for someone to put Wii U under the microscope and for them to throw everything they can at the console. Only then can they then say “Ok, we’ve thrown all of this at the console and we think this could be the limit”. Right now that hasn’t been met. Only the likes of Shin’en and Slightly Mad Studios have really been able to crack that power open (other than Nintendo of course).

It’ll be interesting to see what they can make the console do 2 years down the time.

              1. Silicon Studios have cracked that power open, too.

“Wii U has very specific characteristics. Some game designers will like it. Some others will have a hard time to port their game. There are pros and cons. We are very close to Nintendo, so we were working on Wii U for a long time. We almost got the maximum performance with the hardware. Since we are working closely with the Nintendo support team they gave us a lot of useful information.”

                http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/17/3d-dot-game-heroes-developer-provided-tech-for-square-enixs-luminous-engine/

              1. Sonic Boom looks more next-gen than Titanfall could ever hope to, since all Titanfall uses is the same bland color pallets as 90% of all other shooters.
And to top it off, Ghosts kicks its ass in sales.

              2. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

But the Wii U has better gameplay. Also, my PC games look twice at good as the Xbone games you have, so in reality, your Underpowered console is too inferior to even be put in comparison.

    3. If Nintendo did produce what would essentially be a gimped PC, they’d need to sell it @ a profit. Considering how Sony & MS willingly sell theirs @ a loss & yet can no longer rely on their other business sectors to offset the costs, Nintendo, & the industry as a whole, would really be in trouble.

Major publishers might want triplets (or w/ PC proper, quadruplets), but do actual gamers really want that? No. No they don’t. Neither do some publishers or some indies.

    4. Can you actually give me some next gen specs then?

You seem to be as stupid as a dog that keeps running into trees.

Oh and the gamepad is gimmicky? Excuse me? I think that Kinect 2.0 is gimmicky if anything.

      You’re a sham.

      1. Kinect is what you called a FORCED, FAILED AND GIMMICK.

That fandork fool just loves sucking MICRO-SOFT dicks for a living.

        1. yet xbox one still getting updates for newer and innovative features. xbox one is getting third party games.

          1. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

Updates? On what? On innovating explosives? Also, PC gets more third party, your argument is no longer applicable.

    5. Considering what passes for the majority of 3rd party “games” nowadays, X1 can get all the hardcore-audiovisual, cut-scene, quick-time, sandboxes & FPSes it wants. Bleh. But hey, if X1 isn’t unique enough, 3rd parties will be offering those multiplats elsewhere, so your covered w/ PC, Sony, & in some cases 360.

But it’s funny how Spider-Man 2 was delayed indefinitely for X1, & X1 alone (meaning @ least Wii U, 3DS, & PS4 are getting it); not that I care much for licensed games. Might become a trend, though, who knows? Wii U still has more global sales than X1, & is picking up in sales (& when the exclusive MK8 hits, sales just might skyrocket). Luckily, MS went w/ cheap x86 architecture to cut costs (maintaing a hardware loss) & allow relatively easy port dumping.

& indies, who are making truer games, are mostly steering clear of X1. So…yeah.

    6. Yes, we want the same thing over and over again, silly Nintendo, you don’t try something new, that’s bad. Also, I’ll just assume you’re a Sony fanboy, you know a maker of one of the “real” next gen consoles, so tell me, explain the Vita pretty much being a gamepad for the PS4

  9. Wii U is a console. That might be splitting hairs, but, uh, Oil Panic was released in 1982 & was the 1st Game & Watch dual-screen. Those were computers, right? That’d be 18 yrs. before Secure Axcess’ patent filing. Nintendo wins. Case closed.

      1. Exactly. This lawsuit is not only late to the party but irrelevant to sue retailers instead of Nintendo directly which any of that would’ve made better sense if Nintendo did violate any patent in the first place which of course they didn’t.

Judge and jurist s are gonna throw this joke of a “lawsuit” out of the window..just like the otber failed Wii, DS & 3DS lawsuits too.

    1. What they’re saying is they’re like “personal dual screened computers”. But they’re not.

There is a HUGE difference between a computer and a games console. Although you could consider PS4 and X1 closer to a PC.

    2. not that i dotn agree this is stupid, but you cant compare the screen tech from back then to now, those were limited predetermined LCD screens that did not act like monitors do now

      1. @cloud8521

True, true. My point was, if they’re gonna treat a dual-screen console like a PC w/ dual-screen capabilities, then by their “logic”, they should include Game & Watch. But then Oil Panic’s year of release would still hurt their case.

  10. Lmao fucking americans with their lawsuits. Always wanting everything for them selves, even ideas. How disgusting.

    1. sueing is life in america. when you dont have money, the easy way to get money is by sueing. even teenagers sue each other.

      1. Even teenagers sue each other? Then they’ve clearly got nothing better to do in their lives then have they?

      2. Are you gonna sue your mother or father for making your ass butt ugly or Nintendo for selling you a decent console for what it is and worth?

        Good luck with that.

      3. Stfu you poor bastard you cant even afford a 360 and gaming is supposed to be your hobby and you cant afford anything besides the kids console why are you here go away you poor pathetic piece of shit

  11. Isn’t this like he 10th time they’ve sued Nintendo? Like holy shit you’ve lost every time just give up.

    1. Funny because didn’t Game & Watch did this similar thing and what about Dreamcast that came out before this “patent” was even issued?

Suing only Nintendo for what other companies have done years ahead and also Sony with Vita, Microsoft’s Smartglass and don’t forget Apple and Google (Android) developers behind apps that used the same feature but goes and sues retailers as well instead of the company who acquired and has that money for the patent used?

This lawsuit is as farfetched and stupid as sasorideidaraobi.

    2. And you should plea guilty for your stupidity to think any of what you just said and this dumbass farfetched lawsuit is gonna stick like gum under the seats.

    1. I didn’t even know “dual screen computers existed” and I’m constantly reading about tech, and these things are new to me.

If they were about, then I am surprised that the tech industry haven’t exploited them already.

      1. Considering how broad their claim is (In a pathetic effort to make the Wii U fit their descriptions) they infringed the patent of the Game & Watch.

  12. I am reading this article via my laptop which is currently providing “display capabilities on more than one screen”. Are Toshiba going to get sued? Microsoft? Nvidia? Me? Who is getting sued for this blatant patent infringement I’m currently doing.

    1. More like simultaneous screen sharing which the Wii U isn’t doing. It swaps displays between the controller and TV, not displaying everything at once. That’s what some games are doing so why not sue those guys too?

This typical “Nintendo only” lawsuit isn’t gonna stick and roll well and far.

    1. Like I already said, these jokers think Nintendo is an easy target for free money. And BTW, have those fools ever heard of Sega’s Dreamcast which did the same thing..years before that “patent”?

        1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Considering all the evidence, it’s undeniable that there is a conspiracy against our empire…

      1. Dude, the Game&Watch has been influencing all Nintendo consoles since the DS sans the Wii, and the thing is like 30 years older than their patent.

  13. Again? F***ing kidding me? All these f***ing broke idiots need to find a hobby to do aside from trolling Nintendo. And then he goes so far as to also sue retail companies such as Best Buy, Target, Gamestop, lol… Go find something better do buddy

      1. Sad. If it’s any consolation, I don’t hate you, just…the way you present your opinions & facts. Disagreeing itself is fine, but trolling, by its very definition, is offensive.

      2. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

No we like you, because how easy you make it to get some lulz out of you. I also heard ED is making an article for you, you might be in the lolcow section, you might even be referenced in the special snowflake syndrome section.

  14. The stupidest thing behind this case, aside from suing those retail companies on top of ONLY suing Nintendo. is that they are so prideful that they ACTUALLY think a billion-dollar company is going to be using technology as far back as 2003. That’s like saying Nintendo is going to try to harness the graphic components from the Gamecube. Granted, it was certainly ahead of its time, but in this world where we are constantly and more rapidly discovering newer and newer technology, technology as far back as then will just be considered that, obsolete. Nintendo might have heard what their company was trying to do at the time, perhaps surprised with it because of the year, but thats it.

    1. Well, x86 architecture (@ 64-bits) is, oddly enough, from 2003. So Sony & MS decided on architecture that’s been around in its 64-bit form 11 yrs.

But, while PowerPC came out in 1992 (@ 32-bit/64-bit) & is 22 yrs. old, x86 is ancient, both by comparison & by industry standards, originally coming out in 1978 (@ 16-bit) making it 36 yrs. old.

PPC is 14 yrs. newer over all, & 32-bit/64-bit @ birth. Ninty has optimized PPC for their consoles since the GCN in 2001, so it’s before 2003 (that incarnation being 2 yrs. older), but again, still newer architecture than what Sony & MS have both decided (or was it the hubris of Western 3rd parties?) for their 8th gen entries.

  15. Pingback: Nintendo Is Accused Of Patent Infringement With Wii U | Curiosidades na Internet

  16. Game&Watch (From which the DS is based, from which the 3DS is based, from which the Wii U is based) is 20+ years older than their patent.
If they’re smart they’ll stop this shit before Nintendo counters their lawsuit with a Game&Watch patent.

  17. that is very vage wording on that, why dose the US patening office allow such vage desciptions. it sounds like they have never had and concreat device to speak of and shoudld have never been granted a patent. it is like apple inc trying to patent a box or case with rounded edges. also multiple screen computinghas been around since the 80s

  18. DUDE!!! NINTENDO IS HAVING ENOUGH TROUBLE TRYING TO SELL THE DAMN THING.. OBVIOUSLY IT WASN’T THAT GREAT OF AN IDEA.. LEAVE POOR NINTENDO ALONE.. IF THEY DIDN’T HAVE LoZ AND RULE THE HANDHELD KINGDOM, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN GONE ALONG TIME AGO..
