Nintendo Is Making A Cheap New Console For Emerging Markets

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced last night that the company is busy developing a cheap new console for emerging markets such as India and China. The console could be seen as early as next year, though as expected, details are fairly scarce. Iwata told Bloomberg, “We want to make new things, with new thinking rather than a cheaper version of what we currently have. The product and price balance must be made from scratch.”

    1. No and why aren’t you dead yourself?
I was hoping you’d be gone by now because your trolling skills are horrible

            1. No, because anyone who types like an illiterate man beaten with splintery pieces of wood, yet links his youtube channel where he rationally speaks and plays PC games is an automatic troll.

      1. “Uhhhhhhh…. Y don’t U kill yourself? ”

Lol. Telling people to kill themselves. What an asshole. Your no better than a troll you half-shit.

    2. No this well be a cheap 100$ system worth cheap 20$ games that are easy and for places like China, this has nothing to do with the normal market

    3. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis ((insert irrelevant comment about Nintendo console you dont own here)).. thank you

For someone named God, you surely don’t know that Quadraxis has more important stuff to use his money on right now. Just because you have the luxury, apparently, to spend all of your money on video games doesn’t mean he can. Grow up, “God.”

lol Chinese people can’t afford a PS4 let alone an Xbox One! You silly goose, Nintendo is making something that will fly off the shelves in China.

      1. China is on its way to becoming 4th on the consumer wealth in the world.
China has about as many millionaires (in US$) as Idaho has people.
The amount of people that makes the monthly dough comparable to average Joe is not that small.
Currently Chinese gamers are paying insane prices for smugglers for their gaming needs.

I don’t know how this is going to work, since they can only operate on Shanghai free trade zone.
But I think all three will bring cheap, stripped down plastic boxes and call them gaming consoles, and most probably they will fail.
Though Nintendo might have the best change making it over there.

    2. Ummmm what console was the most sucessful and sold the most last gen? The Wii. The most underpowered system. And you think making a system to compete with the others will make things go up? Nintendo made it clear (regardless of who bought want) that power doesn’t give sales.

      1. The Wii U’s poor sales are attributed mostly to lack of titles. Lack of titles stems from lack of third party support, which stems from comparatively weak hardware. Missing Batman: Arkham Knight for example is a huge con for me. GTA V, the various generic shooters, etc etc.

    3. Only the Xbox one well be sold in China, Nintendo well be the only other exception. Ps4 well not be sold in China, this new system is not for the normal market.

    4. ^this.
They should have been on the ball when the Chinese market opened up, and even in anticipation, to hit that market full force when it opened up. Now Microsoft will launch there first, probably followed by Sony shortly after. Nintendo will probably limp in years later. Considering the ban was placed back around the first playstation, the market is more used to strictly nintendo titles from older systems. This couldve been a huge play, but as usual nintendo wasnt on the ball. They should make a
U 2.0, and drop the wii name. They drop original WiiU completely. Original Wii and 3Ds have unique opportunities to capture HUGE share of the existing markets. Dont botch it up nintendo!!!

    1. A Wii with a GamePad. That’ll confuse everyone.

“Wait, wasn’t the Wii U the tablet thingy for the Wii? Why are they calling it the GamePad?” =)

    1. Not really because it’s most likely going to have stripped down features and the fact the Wii U itself is coming out in China soon, I believe the Wii U will be superior because of the strict laws in Japan banning all violent video games… so PS4 and Xbone are dead in China before they even started.

      1. Not necessarily, most PS3 and 360 games that are exclusive to Japan aren’t like the games here in the states or UK, or any Western market. They ar mostly very Eastern focus and those would be the ones that sell well, the only problem would be that whole China/Japan animosity but that would affect Ninty as well.

So they aren’t going to be releasing the Wii U into China & India? Does this sound like a bad move to anyone else? Wii U could make a killing over in China & would help the sales since China has strict rules on violent video games & a majority of Nintendo’s titles are pretty lite on the violence.

    1. The average wealth in China is extraordinarily low. The country has ludicrous amounts of money, is the fastest growing economy in the world, and will soon knock the US out of it’s no. 1 spot (as will India and Brazil). BUT that doesn’t mean your average Chinamen will have money for a Wii U. 99% (not the actual figure, I’m exaggerating) of Chinese people work 14 hour days just to get by and will never be able to buy a lavish current-gen console. The average annual household income in China is 500 USD, which is not too far different from what a Wii U costs.

      1. pink0crystal0midbus

Exactly what lizalfos said. Chinese people don’t even have enough money to buy a Wii U let alone the other two consoles. People there work at sweatshops where they can barely make 1,500 RMB a MONTH! That is equivalent to $230 US by the way… not enough to even buy a Wii U ANDDD they still have to buy clothing, food, transportation costs, etc, etc.

They can’t afford the consoles we can. They need something that is cheap and Nintendo is going to give it to them.

      2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Ah okay. I also didn’t take into account the fact China has the biggest population of any country.

  2. So this is the “new” hardware annoucement everybody was getting excited about lol. Hype bubble busted and pissed on..

  3. So wii u without the gamepad or wii without the motion controls or maybe something in the middle

    1. “We want to make new things, with new thinking rather than a cheaper version of what we currently have. The product and price balance must be made from scratch.” -Iwata

It looks like it’s not going to be a downgraded Wii U, but something entirely different and cheap as well.

  4. They said something from scratch and people are still saying Wii U without gamepad……. That’s not from scratch. Such idiots.

  5. I’m expecting something that would be very cheap in the western market, possibly even cheaper than a Wii. Since Nintendo said they would have to tailor-make this console for this market, my bet would be that they’ll need new developers for this console.

Considering people in China makes very little money, the games can’t be too expensive to sell, so they would probably have to make smaller-scale games (or possibly port VC games) to be able to make money.

    1. And when it comes to control methods, I believe using more traditional controllers would be cheaper than using a tablet-controller or Wiimote, considering those costs a lot to manifacture (especially the first one).

Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

  6. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis ((insert irrelevant comment about Nintendo console you dont own here)).. thank you

    1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Unless you live in one of these emerging markets, you won’t be owning this console so how about you leave this article & not post irrelevant comments about a Nintendo console you don’t own. Thank you.

  7. My only worry is that Nintendo’s software resources will be split even further with the release of a “new” console. If it can’t play Wii-U games, then those resources have to come from somewhere. Everyone says great games could save the Wii-U, and that a lack of games is what’s hurting it…this problem won’t be resolved if they have two incompatible home consoles to develop for.

I am not keen on business. Therefore, I will not comment on whether Nintendo’s thrifty new console will be a lucrative commodity or not. However, I will ask, “does anyone know where the hell I can purchase one of those Yoshi Wii Remotes?” That controller looks bitchin’!

  11. Fucking ridiculous your soooo called (current) gen console is not even using new gen controllers except for a gamepad nobody cares about and a botched pro controller nobody bought or took back to the store. This console failed harder then Valve Admiral’s wife aborted pregnancy after cheating with an East Indian

    1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

The PS4 & Xbone’s controllers are new gen? Bahahaha! That’s funny! The PS4 is obviously a copy of the Sega Dreamcast controller. As for Xbone’s controllers, nothing new from those either. If it being able to work with Windows 8.1 makes it new, then I’m Elvis since there are dozens of PC controllers that could work with previous Windows long before this generation. Now if I’m missing something, please tell me by all means since I don’t care enough to look any further to find out since you obviously don’t care enough to look any further to see that the Wii U isn’t as weak as you people like to think. Apparently some people are still under the delusion that the Wii U can’t possibly surpass the almighty Playstation 3. xD

  12. as long as this console play downgraded ports of wii u games and not all new ones i won’t be mad but if they make all new mario, zelda and other first party titles for it i will be mad
