Zelda Wii U May Be More Than A Single Player Experience According To Aonuma

Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has hinted that the forthcoming Zelda title for the Wii U may be more than just a single player experience. Aonuma says that it might be something that he shows off in the future. Here’s what he had to say on the subject.

In a previous Nintendo Direct presentation, you outlined a few pillars of the Zelda series you wanted to rethink. One was taking dungeons out of order, which saw fruition in Link Between Worlds, and the other pillar you mentioned wanting to rethink was playing Zelda by yourself. Is Hyrule Warriors a step in that direction? Are we going to have to multiplayer in the next Zelda?

“The two-player functionality of Hyrule Warriors is actually something that has traditionally been done in the Dynasty Warriors series, but they’ve changed because of the hardware and the second screen on your GamePad. Instead of having a splitscreen on the television, you have one-player playing on the television and one on the GamePad. When I was talking back about making Zelda more than just a single-player experience? That’s something you will see in the future, maybe next year.”

      1. Lynch yourself old perverted, shit eating, asshole fucking, middle school girl hymen chewing face fuck.

          1. Cute, little kid is talking about real girls.
Isn’t it past your bed time already?
Don’t drink too much, or you’ll wet your bed again.

  1. those clowns better keep the main story single player and leave multiplayer for some after game side quest or something.

      1. So? He’s one of the lead designers of Zelda for a very long time with Miyamoto so if anyone can succeed Miyamoto’s work, ots him and so far, he has showed much promise so stop acting so foolish over change because these games have been the same for too long and little change to its formula isn’t gonna kill the game. Grow up.

        1. How bout you grow up you jackass. I stated my opinion to not change a formula that works and you immediately insult me. So mature there buddy. And yes, changing the formula the way he’s been talking lately will kill it. Maybe not for you, but for people like me who have grown up with Zelda and don’t want it to change to multiplayer or using other characters. Just because you want it to change doesn’t mean everyone does. In case you didn’t know people are allowed to state their preferences on a topic. So again, how about YOU grow up. Idiot.

      2. agree with you. between some minors change and change to a point the game is not recognisable there is a big difference for me Eiji-san doing the latter. To be honest Miyamoto-san keep what make a very good Zelda and change the game play. To be honest even zelda 1 and 2 were not that linear, you can still do some dungeons in a no-linear ways.

        1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

He’s not doing the latter. A 2nd player is not going to make the game unrecognizable. That’s like saying the multiplayer factor of Four Swords & Four Swords Adventures made the games unrecognizable as Zelda titles. They did quite the opposite, actually. Shigeru Miyamoto trusted The Legend of Zelda with Eiji Aonuma, so we should be giving the guy the benefit of a doubt. He hasn’t let me down yet with his handling of the series.

    1. Aside from Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., SSB, and
Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire? What Nintendo has announced thus far? Yeah, let Atlus, Square-Enix, Image & Form, Renegade Kid, Capcom, X-Seed, Sega, Natsume & all those great 3rd parties/indies continue to take care of the 3DS. It’s doing mighty fine without too much from Nintendo.

Yeah, let Atlus, Square-Enix, Image & Form, Renegade Kid, Capcom, X-Seed, Sega, Natsume & all those great 3rd parties/indies continue to take care of the 3DS. It’s library is constantly growing without a deluge of Nintendo titles.

    3. Are you fucking dumb? Its the reason why 3DS is succeeding by miles and why Vita is failing when all it has is PS3 ports that are bareboned to the original.

  2. I imagine it will only be used for certain dungeons, similar to how you have a companoion in some dungeons in past games i.e Medlii. Cool idea though.

  3. Nintendo plz. Just put the multiplayer on one screen. Plz stop with the gimmicks, bad controllers and whatnot………………

  4. Please stop trying to change the game so much. Nobody said they got tired of zelda being single player. Just because Hyrule warriors is getting good impressions doesn’t mean you should influence it with the the actual game so soon. Many people still consider Zelda to be a single player game… If you do make it multiplayer, have it in a separate mode apart from the story, I don’t want to have another player to help me get past a game I bought to play by myself.

    1. Dude, all he’s changing is the linear adventure and give players more freedom to choose to advance the story in any desired order. That’s it. Ya people really should CALM THE FUCK DOWN.

  5. It would be kind of cool if they had a mode for single player AND a mode for co-op, with the exact same story but dungeons and invironment designed around having two players. No online co-op though, I don’t think that would work out very well for a main Zelda game…

  6. Co-op or multiplayer better be a choice or quarantined in its own mode. Or maybe…a multiplayer Zelda could be its own game, an offshoot of sorts. Call it, I dunno…’Hyrule Warriors’, or something. But single-player games are my favorite type of game. TLoZ is my favorite Nintendo franchise. Link’s Awakening was my 1st Nintendo game. Aonuma-san should look @ Wind Waker HD for inspiration re gameplay mechanics. RE 2’s two-sided storyline or RE Ø’s co-op mechanics would be the most ideal. But nothing more.

  7. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

I’m cool with a 2-player co-op thing for Legend of Zelda for Wii U but only if it’s optional, so the people against it won’t cry over it. Then again, a few hardcore Fire Emblem fans still cried about the casual option for Fire Emblem Awakening even though it was totally optional. Either way, I don’t really care since I’m happy with Zelda just being a single player affair.

  8. i would think it’s some kind of rating system on how long it took to beat a boss and such and you rank online!

    1. No! I wanna be able to explore the world with other Links! -.- They can give you side missions and stuff! Or maybe you and a partner could go in a dungeon and cooperate to beat a boss. (The boss would be exclusive to multiplayer of course) That would be perfect.
