In a recent interview, Twitch COO Kevin Lin has said that the company would like to bring the Twitch application to the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita. However, if an application is created then it will be viewing only, which Lin says is much less CPU intensive than broadcasting. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime recently said that Twitch won’t come to Wii U because they don’t think streaming 30 minutes of gameplay by itself is a lot of fun. Hopefully Reggie and Nintendo change their minds.
But Twitch’s horizons don’t end with PC and home console. The company has recently moved into mobile and is looking at the Vita and 3DS as well. “On mobile we just released our first in-game integration, with Asphalt 8 from Gameloft. For now, we’re going to be doing that game by game. Handhelds. That’s something we’d love to do. On handhelds it’s more of a server/CPU concern, but we definitely want to do it. We want to build viewing apps, that’s much less CPU intensive than broadcasting.”

No! I like Twitch, but there’s a problem with our good ol’ U. Loading times. It’ll take like a few minutes to go to the home menu, THEN a few minutes to turn on Twitch, THEN a few minutes to go BACK to the home menu, THEN to finally start a game. Not worth it.
Your Wii U uses a few minutes to go to the Wii U menu?! I’m sorry, but there must be something wrong with your console. Mine takes only 5-15 seconds to switch between software and menu…
I’m exaggerating. But still, the Wii U’s major problem IS loading times. The longest it took to load on my Wii U was about 30 seconds.
i agree mine takes to 15 secs as well or they never updated their wii u if their consoles still that slow.
Why would it take that long? Loading time hasn’t been an issue with Wii U since early 2013
I got my Wii U in February 2014. During that time, I had to WAIT. I had to wait when the Wii U started up, I had to wait when it was updating the WIi U for Super Mario 3D World… ugh! I hate waiting!

I’d rather not waste a console’s processor for streaming when there are already decent capture devices that do it well (and even some plain old webcams that do it at 60fps!)
Not everyone wants to spend an extra $200-$250 to be able to record/stream gameplay footage.

I can’t say that I’m that excited, but it would certainly be a great addition to the 3ds’ application collection. I still think that they should bring it to the wii u however.

People took Reggie’s words out of context and focused on streaming not fun, when he seemed to not be against streaming just boring streamers.. A lot of the streams on twitch are barren because they do just that, only showcase game play with a host that has little to no appeal or personality.
Yeah but that’s not up to Reggie to decide, thats just a bs excuse Nintendo uses. The real reason is because they wouldn’t be able to monitize it.
Reggie is so fucking stupid for saying that. At the end of the day, HE’s probably not fucking on Twitch and actually on the stage by himself. Don’t see why people seem to think Nintendo hates Twitch… They streamed on it for three days in a row for Christ’s sake. I think I can rephrase Reggie’s excuse: Why watch someone play a video game when you can play it yourself.
