Super Smash Bros 3DS Will Be Getting A Paper Mario Stage

Super Smash Bros producer Masahiro Sakurai has revealed via Miiverse that Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo 3DS will feature a gorgeous Paper Mario Sticker Star themed stage. The newly announced stage is fragile so Sakurai hinted that strong winds will blow the stage away. He also revealed a second screenshot this time of a stage based on the S.S. Flavion from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Here’s what Sakurai had to say.

Pic of the day. For the first time ever in the Super Smash Bros. series, here’s a Paper Mario stage! It’s made of paper, so strong winds will blow it away.

Since the stage is paper, it transforms when it folds over and opens up again. This ship is the S.S. Flavion from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Thanks to those who sent this in

  1. Uhm… Where’s a Paper Mario stage for the Wii U? The best Paper Mario games were on home consoles, not handheld. Everyone knows Sticker Star is the weakest in this spin off Mario series, since it’s not even a true RPG.

      1. No, it doesn’t. Super Smash Bros celebrates the history of Nintendo games. The fact this stage can turn into another stage from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (a Gamecube game) is bullshit, since that could be used for a Wii U Paper Mario stage. If this was a rule, the Skyloft stage shouldn’t even be on SSB 4 Wii U since Skyward Sword is a Wii game, not a Wii U game.

      2. Since this stage contains homage to more than one Paper Mario game, I think the dominating factor in placing the stage in the portable version is the most recent Paper Mario game was released on the 3DS. It makes sense to me.

  2. Looks Fantastic!

now the only Stage mario needs on the 3DS version is Luigi’s mansion – i would not want more than 4 mario stages anyway.

  3. Ooooo, I wonder if this is a covert hint for a new paper Mario game on the horizon…or maybe paper Mario himself as a fighter? With various partners for special and smash attacks?

  4. It looks so cool! I’ve never played any of the Mario rpgs at all (I tried Dream Team, enjoyable). A Wii U stage I’d like to see is NintendoLand. It could showcase all the minigames in the background and have Monita floating around. Hugs!

  5. Hint of Paper Mario U on the way? Hopefully it will be as good as PM: TTYD and not anything like Sticker Star.

  6. Paper Mario in a smash bros game already sounds great. Even though I would like there to be a paper mario stage for the Wii U, I know it will be enjoyable on the 3DS. What do you guys think?

    1. I’m sensing there will be a Paper Mario stage on the U version too. Maybe the same one as the 3DS stage. I must try a Paper Mario game!

  7. The S.S. Flavion is part of a Paper Mario Smash Bros 3DS stage?!?!

I am instantaneously sold on a 3DS I wasn’t planning on buying yet!!

  8. I’ve never played ttyd I’ve only played super paper Mario for wii and didn’t like it because it wasn’t turned based ( but I did beat the game though) so when sticker star came out I was happy to play it and liked it. My question is since I’ve never played ttyd what makes sticker star so bad?.

    1. If you play TTYD you’ll understand. It’s a hilarious RPG masterpiece with an epic story and MUCH better gameplay mechanics.

That game alone was worth the purchase of a GameCube. The system had some great friggin games.

      1. Oh ok thanks that good to know, I will consider buying it the next time I buy game cube games but I still need melee and double dash so it might fall short to one of them lol

  9. This is honestly WAY too many Mario stages. I wish we could get more Star Fox or Metroid stages :/
