Japan: Nintendo 3DS Sells 34K And Wii U Sells 7K

We’ve finally got this week’s sales data from Japan courtesy of Media Create. It’s PlayStation 3 JRPG Tales of Zestiria that has taken the top spot this week, which was kinda to be expected. The game sold 340,891 copies. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse for Wii U made its début at number three, but only sold 32,137. As expected it was the Nintendo 3DS which was the best-selling format shifting 34K while the Wii U sold 7K units. Here’s the best-selling software this week in Japan.

  1. There is only one PS4 game at place 19th, but the PS4 sold almost twice as much as the WiiU. Can someone explain this to me?

    1. Because there are no new games coming to the Wii U anytime soon. Kirby, and then…… Splatoon? Thats pretty damn bad if you ask me. What happened to one Wii U game a month.

      1. mario party and mario vs donkey kong early march
        then rodea early april
followed by xenoblade chronicles x april 29
        then splatoon in may

  2. Thats a pretty poor performance by Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. I was expecting the Japanese to buy more copies than that. Nintendo always has a weak fourth quarter, as far as the Wii U is concerned. Kirby is the only game we will be getting for quite some time. You would think Nintendo would have remedied this problem by now..

The Wii U will continue to sell poorly until Splatoon is released.

      1. Just because you didn’t want a Kirby game doesn’t mean others didn’t want it. Wii U game in general aren’t selling a lot. I bet if a new Metroid game on the console were to be released, it would put up similar numbers, and you’d have someone else saying the exact same thing as you now. Don’t be a dick.

          1. Yes, clearly when a limited number of people say they want it, that means that 1) it’s representative that a whole lot of people want it and 2)they’ll actually put their money where their mouth is and pay for it. When you compare the sales numbers of Kirby to Metroid games going back to 2000, they come out about the same, if not favorable towards Kirby. Nintendo has reasons for releasing a Kirby game, and we don’t know if they’re working on a Metroid game either. You act immature and petty when it comes to criticizing other consoles and their games, but now you’ve gone to insulting Nintendo games you simply don’t like? Grow up, and I reiterate: Don’t be a dick.

        1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

High Command should focus on the war instead of wasting their time with pointless matters that can be resolved on its own…

          1. they released that game after smash bros only to take advantage of the hype that ssb caused. i’d rather play a “classic” style kirby game.

        1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

I have nothing against the game except that it’s an unnecessary game at this point in the Wii U timeline when they could have done something different instead…

          1. If Nintendo’s resources are so limited that they can’t develop more Triple-A titles at the same time, then they have bigger problems to worry about than trying to appease fanboys.

      1. And what If somebody isn’t interested in Kirby or Mario Party 10? I know I’m probably not buying either one of them…

    1. Poor performance? It sold O.K and was the 3rd best selling game in Japan last week. That’s not poor, but nit impressive either, just O.K.

  3. sasori obinna: the puppet master

Honestly am not interested on that clay doo doo kirby game or splatoon. Looking foward to zelda u.

  4. sasori obinna: the puppet master

LOL how many of these tales of games is namco even milking. glad western devs are making creative rpgs unlike japan. at least ff xv and may be xenoblade look unique unlike all the other generic rpgs.

  5. I’m suprised this boring Kirby game sold this much. Using a stick to move a freaking character in 2015. It’s bad enough my new hard drive needs a Y port because Nintendo was too stupid not to think of power for my hard drive to work with one port. They were stupid when they built the Wii U. No wonder why only one game works with the Gamecube adapter…system is too weak to handle 3D World with it.

  6. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Well those numbers for the Wii U will probably be under 10k til Xenoblade Chronicles X comes out. If it’s anything like Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, & Super Smash Bros 4 Wii U, the sale numbers will probably leap up to over 20k… only to fall back down in a month. Let’s face it. Japan is part of the people that buy mostly handheld games & filthy mobile games.
