US Club Nintendo Changes Flipnote Studio 3D Release From A Week To Later This Month

People are understandably frustrated with Club Nintendo at the moment and the issue isn’t helped by a recent notification about Flipnote Studio 3D. The application was meant to be coming later this week, however the text has been changed to say that the application will be available sometime later this month.

For Flipnote Studio 3D, please check your To-Do list to receive your download code later this month.

Thanks, Sonickid147 and Erich

    1. ??? If you speak of Flipnote Studio 3D, my understanding is that only the /Friend/ gallery was shut down with the whole Swapnote incident in Japan, and that the paid World function is still operational. This means that for, if I remember correctly, $0.99/mo. (free for popular curators and animators who earn x amount of coins each month), you get access to their online public gallery of Flipnote animations. You can also export them as videos and post them to youtube.

        1. wow, that sucks. what is wrong with them??? They must be losing customers left and right for all the shit lately.

        2. Where did you read this? This is the first ive heard of this…

At the same time though, even before the swapnotes incident, the game was purposefully delayed due to excessive traffic to the online services that exceeded expectations. I could see, in the event Nintendo felt it’s servers could not handle the potential traffic, Nintendo offering an offline only edition, either indefinitely or until such a time that they feel their servers are adequate for the amount of traffic they would potentially receive.

Considering the fact that you can export to video, it’s not too big a deal. You’ll likely see all sorts of flipnotes pop up on sites like YouTube and Tumblr.

  1. We should all know by now that when it comes to their own IT, Nintendo cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. I don’t care about the delay of FN, this is just more signs of how Nintendo thinks it’s acceptable to give us what they want, when they want instead of serving their customers with the respect of ontime and reliable service….. I know, I’m old fashioned.

    1. Well, they have to generate a code for every member of Club Nintendo (as a “volume” code could be shared online and downloaded by the masses), as well as implement a way to generate and output new codes for new users who join before cut-off. Then there’s configuration of the site to spit out those codes once users complete the To-Do (as a normal To-Do is just a survey, they likely have to add new functionality to their To-Do system to spit out the codes. I’ve also received on and off maintenance errors separate from the high-traffic error, especially most of today, which could explain this change; something possibly didn’t work like planned with the update).

TL;DR: It’s possible theres a number of back-end changes for Nintendo to hand out the codes to club nintendo users (and only club nintendo users), which may of not been ready or fully functional as planned within the desired time frame.

      1. I’m a clubnintendo member but this was supposed to be for everyone. What’s up with this stupid code thing, for filling out their stupid questionnaire on CN ,which is about to get shut down anyways and is quite overloaded lately as people want to redeem their points for stuff. This flipnote should have been released years ago for all 3DSers. I’m so sick of Nintendo’s bullcrap.

        1. Flipnote studio was delayed for an indefinite amount of time after:

          A. Japanese Flipnote Studio 3D users provided excess amount of traffic to Nintendo’s servers, due to the paid Flipnote World service, which exceeded expectations and caused slowdowns, delays, and various errors when accessing the service. As such Nintendo postponed the software in order to further prep their servers for the potential traffic that would be provided by the rest of the world (now knowing their original expectations completely undershot the reality)

          B. The swapnotes incident, which additionally caused the shutdown of the Flipnotes Friends service, which unlike it’s World counterpart, was free of charge to use.

Once could see the shutdown of Flipnote Friends as a big blow to the potential market Flipnote Studio 3D would reach, as while users in Japan may be more accepting of paid services like Flipnote World, users in other countries may find the lack of a free online-sharing offering and the charging of their main online functionality a deal-breaker (I could see many a user skipping out on Flipnote Studio, just because the main way to share them was $1/mo.).

As such, for these reasons Flipnote Studio appeared to be delayed for good.

However, Club Nintendo, permitting a user above in the comments is incorrect, could be using it’s users to ‘test’ Nintendo’s servers, as while many have likely signed up for the sole purpose of Flipnote Studio, the # of 3DS owners who would be running the software compared to a public release would still be quite insignificant. This means that they would have the chance to test their servers on a smaller scale in a bigger market, allowing them to make adjustments to their servers using the data provided by Club Nintendo users’ usage, resulting in a much smoother full pubic release of the title, compared to its launch in Japan.

          This is, however, speculation.

    2. Hey everybody, let’s all throw a temper tantrum like five year old children, over something we’re getting for free. They don’t have to give you whiners shit, so chill out and be patient.

      1. Is “stop whining” just the go to phrase for people who can’t contribute anything on a topic? Yeah, Nintendo doesn’t have to give us flipnote for free just like I don’t have to give them my money. Don’t be ignorant.

        1. And how exactly is “fuck you Nintendo” “I’m so tired of your shit” etc. contributing anything to the topic? He’s right. Nobody here is paying anything for this app, so bitching and moaning about it isn’t gonna make Nintendo release it any sooner.

    3. Technically FS3D was temporarily available at 2 days ago and so many people were trying to download it. It crashed their servers. So they took it off and changed it to this month. And yes, there is some people out there in NA with FS3D. There is pictures online to prove this if you search it.

    1. lol, they probably wouldn’t even think about the first sentence. I’m quite disappointed with the way they’ve handled things ever since amiibo came out.

        1. Yeah man, and while you could blame scalpers for taking limited edition New 3DS XLs and Gamecube adapters, we all know that stores pretty much fixed it after by limiting the quantity that the customer can order. After that, it was Nintendo’s fault for deciding to not restock. Darn, man…I remember when the Link Between Worlds 3DS XL edition came out. What, it came out in October, Novermber? The the thing was available in stores all the way till the new year, maybe even a little more.

Nintendo doesn’t restock its stuff cause they wanna make fans cause chaos, which pulls in attention from other potential buyers. It’s even been that way during the Smash demo at Best Buy, making us line up outside, only choosing one Best Buy in the city…it was a huge line, and people kept passing by and asking what this was for, and of course, people gave the free publicity. But there is a solution to all this, a solution on the consumer’s side. If Nintendo did restock their limited edition items for at least a month or more, scalpers would be useless. They’d get tired of it and turn somewhere else. But no, scalpers are here cuz Nintendo started it with amiibo, then with the adapters, and they scalpers are on the lookout cuz they know Nintendo won’t restock.

          1. I agree 100% nintendo is loving the publicity that we bring them, but what they apparently didn’t stop to consider is that they may be throwing their true fans and followers under the bus! If a business isn’t treating it’s loyal customers like they should, then those customers leave. I’m pretty loyal to nintendo, but I certainly don’t feel appreciated! -_-

            1. Same here man. I’m also pretty loyal and a fan, and I also don’t feel appreciated. I think Nintendo clearly know what they’re doing to their fans, and how they’re getting upset, but they probably think, “Who cares? Frustrated or not, they’ll always buy our products regardless”. By the way, I was gonna buy something that was useful and productive for me, non-Nintendo, and then they come by with the MM 3DS XL, and then I feel forced to put that money towards the MM 3DS. Then I was frustrated about them not restocking, and then I took a good break. Then I realized that I should pay for what I need, and how I was feeling locked down by all these limited edition stuff and how I shouldn’t get trapped in all that.

              1. I’ve already decide that I’m only going to try to get a handfull of nintendo things this year. I’m done running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off.

                1. To be clear, I’m not trying to tell anybody what to do, or hold a grudge against Nintendo. I’m just stating my opinion here. I know I’m thankful that they make great games, and I guess that’s what matters. By the way, we can’t register games on club Nintendo, right? I heard that stopped as of Jan. 20. But I don’t get it, people say you can still register them..

    2. By Odin’s beard!! You people are weak, and whiners! May Thor’s Hammer strike you down for speaking against Nintendo!!!

    3. I can’t access the site since the past 2 weeks. I don’t care FP, I only want a proper function of the site for exchange my coins.

    4. I don’t think Flip Note will crash Club Nintendo so other than the bulk of codes needed to be generated for those with 3DS registered at the site, it is really frustrating to see them delay an app that should have been out a long time ago.

    5. As a small token of appreciation for your loyalty, all Club Nintendo members will receive a free download code for Flipnote Studio 3D in February, 2015.

Silly me thought this app would be for everyone.

    7. It wasn’t even in my todo list. Good think I don’t give a shit anymore. Nintendo is just a fucking joke. I’ll play their games, but I’m not “their man” anymore.. When it comes to building relationships with customers, they are about as reliable as one of my back-stabbing Ex’s.

    8. They really don’t seem to grasp release dates with shit lately. The only Amiibo to have had a street date is the Super Mario set and then they say “later this week” and change it to “later this month”? Don’t give a date, even if just a time frame, if it’s not ready. Ugh! Just put it on the fucking eShop for free, not like it’s gonna be super insanely popular, this is just their way of getting people to play with it.

    9. Can someone explain to me where to find the “to do list”? I never cared to make a NC account until now, so yeah. Thanks.

    10. Well time to learn japanese buy a 3Ds from Japan and pay for the crazy services because I don’t think nentendos gonna give us what we want in a loooooon time…
