Skylanders Trap Team was the number one top-selling kids console game for 2014, according to Activision. The publisher also says that, for the third consecutive year, Skylanders was the number one kids video game franchise of the year in the U.S. and globally. Skylanders Trap Team is the fourth installment in Activision’s Skylanders series. It is available on a number of platforms, including Wii U, Wii and Nintendo 3DS.

    1. Still no confirmed numbers to back up this news (From Activisions part) but if it’s somehow doing better than COD (another mindless game tailored to dumbass adult wanna kids), then something is seriously wrong from both ends. lol

    2. Key words “kids console game”… Your Wii U is a joke. A child among men. Its like the autistic kid trying to be an adult but we all know he’s a fucking idiot with no pubs. I think Robin Williams put it best when he wrapped that next tie around his sun dried flesh and went lights out from la la land.

  1. Makes sense. It’s a relatively enticing platformer series, reminds me very much of the platformers of my childhood….primarily Banjo Kazooie, more so for all the in-game collectibles and exploration than for overall gameplay. The designs of the figures are better done than the amiibos as well….a better attention to detail….It’ll be interesting to see how well it’ll compete with Amiibos this year, they may have to step up their game to win back the NFC market…..inb4 removable action figure nfc figures

    1. Square Enix bought the rights to make a sequel to the series which became Sleeping Dogs, if there would be a sequel it would be made by them. They even brought it to PS4 and X1 showing they still care about the game

      1. From what I understand, Activision still owns the rights to the True Crime name. What that exactly means, if true, I’m unsure, but it would be odd if they were unable to make an open-world game again under that name. & seeing as how the characters & specific stories differ from game to game, Activision could plausibly make another GTA-inspired game named True Crime.

      2. No, True Crime 3 became sleeping Dogs when Activision dropped the project. I don’t think it was ever announce that Square Enix bought the rights to True Crimes which makes me belief that Activision still owns the right to True Crime.

Which is why that game came out under sleeping Dogs instead because they didn’t own the rights.

Of course this is only speculation, if anyone can source an article were Square Enix says that they bought the rights to True Crime then everything I said is invalid.

        1. For what it’s woth, according to Wikipedia: “…Sleeping Dogs ’s difficult and prolonged development began in 2008. The game was announced in 2009 as part of the True Crime series but was cancelled by Activision Blizzard in 2011, as a result of the project’s delays and budget issues. Six months later, Square Enix bought the publishing rights and renamed the game Sleeping Dogs, without the True Crime license…”

Sounds similar to Bayonetta 2’s situation. Platinum Games still owns the rights to the Bayo IP, but needed outside help to create the sequel they wanted.

Whereas w/ “True Crime 3”, Activison scrapped a work-in-progress, but Square-Enix swooped in, completed the project, & published it themselves. Yet Activision still owns the rights to the franchise-proper.

  2. I heard Nintendo came out with the news that future Wii U CDs will be made of plastic material to give a message to gamers that amiibo and toys is important now. Well, I didn’t really hear the news but it’s very likely right guys? It’s the only logical thing.

  3. Idk why but it bothers me how some companies believe that cartoony visuals equates to kids games. Activision seems like it’s run by those type of people.

      1. Mostly, the West (particularly the Puritanical US) has imposed strict boundaries as to where animation can go, w/ few exceptions that do break free like Wizards, Heavy Metal, South Park, Metalocalypse, & Spawn. Even Avatar & Korra have a higher standard in terms of content (I mean, there’s a righteous suicide in the latter).

The West also typically associates colorful, abstract styles w/ youth & playfulness, which the idea of ‘adult’ means photorealism & bitterness. Of course, when looking at American comics, the hypocrisy becomes evident, or even a live-action film or Lampoon movie is 1 step away from cartoon status. Although, some of the 1st Western cartoons, even Looney Tunes, were/are for adults. Some of the first stag films were Western animations & quite raunchy.

I think it has to do w/ past forms of communication. The farther you are from ukiyo-e & hieroglyphics, the more live-action story-telling becomes. & as for Japan, their live-action studios & cities were largely devistated after WWII, but in that sense animation studios were easier to operate, so anime boomed.

  4. Released on like what, 5 different consoles? I want to know what game, Rated 7+ or under (that’s Rated E for Everyone in America,) was the best selling on individual consoles. So for example, did Skylanders Trap Team outsell other kids games on one console. For example, did it sell best on the Wii and outsold Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. Until then, this isn’t much to write home about because it counts so many different consoles…

  5. Wait, I thought COD was their top selling kids console game. lol Not anymore I bet. Sad.

Still, this game is ass, more of the same shit like COD every year and still doesn’t interest me and no, putting in Invader Zim’s voice actor (one of my personal favorite cartoons) is not gonna entice me to buy that crap.

  6. I’ve heard of Swap Force and Giants, but I never heard of this game. And I still don’t care. These games always looked kinda dumb to me. But still more interesting than Grand Crap Auto etc.

  7. i’m personally loving the shitstorm that Ubisoft has created recently with game removals on friday night and no customer service until monday. bahahah

  8. good maybe nintendo will work harder being reminded that we do have other options for nfc gaming. I’m looking at you amiibo!

    1. More specifically the few that are actually readily available. I don’t understand the “shelf space needed” excuse for limited run amiibo. I mean my stores only ever have like 2 Mario and a Kirby and maybe a donkey kong or peach on sale cuz they can’t keep stocking them in store
