I’m sure you’re familiar with the west coast port strike by now. The strike was blamed by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata as the reasoning behind the shortage of amiibo figures and New Nintendo 3DS consoles in the United States. Well, you’ll be pleased to know that a tentative contract has been reached in the West Coast Port Strike. Hopefully stock levels will return to normal and you’ll be able to get yourself a New Nintendo 3DS or the amiibo you were after in the not-too-distant future.
The West Coast Port Strike Is Basically Ending Which Means More Amiibo And New Nintendo 3DS XL

Ugh fucking finally. That shit was fucking pointless to begin anyway
I recently read Nintendo Life’s article on why stock shortages on GameCube adapters, amiibo, and special edition New 3DS XL’s are happening. Basically, Nintendo has to control productions of these items such that it doesn’t understock them, or overestimate demands of them so they can have get the most amount of money in the end possible. Unfortunately, they have done the latter, so it’s really interesting as that could be the “true” reason why this is happening
Lol no, that’s just candy coating it. You can’t seriously say that people at Nintendo who specialize in shipping items and figuring out the right amount to produce can’t recognize how many smash fans at r/smashbros and Smashboards want a GC adapter, or that all the Starmen.net fans want a Ness Amiibo and would give everything to get one, and Nintendo somehow “doesn’t understand” that people want these products more than anything at the moment? The truth is that Nintendo is making the Amiibos scarce on purpose because the scarcity makes the Amiibos sell by giving them artificial value, and Nintendo is capitalizing on it for profit.
Sad thing is the scalpers might be making more profit than Nintendo in this current scenario.
Does this mean we’ll be getting more rare amiibos such as villager and little Mac?
I guess. Nintendo could be using this to cover their ass
And i just heard about this just a couple days ago making that pointless
No, it’s just recently ended

Does this mean more wave 1 and 2 amiibo?
No
Actually, yes it could mean that.
Actually, yes, it could mean that.
Iwata is my sugar daddy 💞💞
Watch nothing change in terms of rarity. and stock. nintendo was just looking to make excuses for themselves. this doesn’t affect the shortage in Europe so what’s their excuse for that?
Preach this man^^^
It doesn’t explain the shortages in other countries either. Maybe it’s just me but I want them to stop making waves until they produce enough of the rarer amiibo so they’re not ridiculously understocked or get with the times and have the rarer ones sold online. No use getting hyped for new ones if you can’t even preorder the damn things.
exactly, and they are doing this on purpose! it’s not a smart business
move either. It’s not just you, I would like them to stop rushing out as many different characters as they can. and why in the world has nintendo of america not made it to where you can buy them directly from their website?
i agree im calling bullshit i went for my shulk today i ordered only to say sorry none are in stock till june in the uk so the day they come put im getting like 10 of them and trading them for other amiibos i want on facebook
Same with Canada, our stuff gets shipped to Vancouver.
The shipment will take a while……
let’s just wait and see.
I dunno, I got my reserved amiibos on Thursday after this whole “west port strike” article came out, heck I even got a phone call from Gamestop HQ the same day telling me that my amiibos wouldn’t arrive until next Wednesday and they still did a couple of days ago.
I doubt this alone was the reason for shortage. Nintendo is probably using this as an excuse for the low stock in general since the message from GS specifically mentioned how Ike’s amiibo was extremely limited to one per person.
so the mafia is allowing the workers to go back bless you sopranos clearly nintendo fans
I kinda doubt much is going to change. As I’ve said in previous articles, I’m pretty skeptical about the strike being the reason for the lack of stock, considering there are a couple of reasons speaking against it; it really just seems like an excuse Nintendo used.
Let’s hope it’s true though.
A month & a half later and there is STILL an amiibo shortage, so we were right to call bullshit on Nintendo with this excuse.
So, here in Europe, our stock issues will continue?
It’ll probably continue in every region…
Yeah, I call BS on this whole ordeal. The port strike will never end… according to the liars at Nintendo. In reality this was all a cover so Nintendo didn’t have to admit true failure with regards to supply and demand. Nintendo failed to realize that Amiibo would far outsell their currently struggling systems and games. People just wanted official Nintendo game figures.. nobody cared about function or form. B/c of this and more.. Nintendo will never fully supply each amiibo character now, they enjoy the buzz drawn by sell-outs of figures.
It’s all a big pile of BS.
They should go back and re-release wave 1 and 2 characters too. I’ve still never seen a Pit amiibo anywhere, and I’ve been making some major search efforts for amiibo.
West Side!
Fucking shit, I just spent my money I was gonna use for this because of the shortage, I knew this shit was gonna happen right after I made the decision…
So does this mean that I will one day get my hands on a New 3DS?
I know how you feel. Best Buy cancelled my buddies Ds and I’ve been trying to help him find once since. I got really lucky Thursday and found two at a Target and got him one. This whole limited quantity thing is BS.
Well, after pre orders and trading around I was able to get two Rosalina, two Shulk, two Ike, a King De De De, Lucario, Bowser, and finally today a Meta Knight. If they make Robin and Lucina store exclusives again I have some Amiibos to trade.
That remains to be seen, wave 4 only has 6 amiibos. It’s completely unfair for 4 or 5 of them to become store exclusives. Especially how some retailers have miserably failed in supplying demand (Best Buy, Target).
Except this strike has no effect here in Canada. So we won’t be getting anymore. Our shipments come from Vancouver.
I didn’t even know there was a strike going on…
Wait…..does this mean that the entire first wave of amiibo will get more stock in stores now? Many people will be thrilled if that happens. I could finally get Marth.
The port strike has been pretty much over here in Seattle since last week (Shipments resumed on last Tuesday morning). I’m not sure how it has been at the other ports, but so far, I’ve noticed that more stock is appearing and most of my pre-ordered Amiibo have arrived yesterday and the day before and the rest are on their way :)
I’ll believe it when I see it.
how does this affect Canadian stock levels?
Well at least it’s over with and glad the workers and union have reached an agreement.
Maybe I’ll have a chance to get my hands on a Little Mac Amiibo now…
Its like you rwad my mind! You appear tto know so much
about this, like you wrot the book in it or something.
I think that you can do with some pics to
drive the message home a little bit, bbut othher than that, this iis wonderful blog.
An excellent read. I’ll definitely be back.
Yay! More of the same amiibo that most people most likely already have like Mario, Link, & Samus Aran! Pfft! Nintendo is full of shit. At this point, I wish Iwata would get fired already because he’s doing a very shitty job right now. If Iwata can barely get Nintendo to do amiibo right, why should he expect his precious Quality of Life project to work out? It’s clear that Nintendo fucking sucks when it comes to stuff that isn’t in their wheelhouse like cards & video games. I expect Quality of Life to sell a lot at first but quickly fall apart after a month or so… just like Wii games that centered around quality of life.
