Nintendo Explains Why Re-Releasing Amiibo Is Harder Than You Think

Certain amiibo have been near on impossible to get hold of and reprints seem unlikely. Nintendo Japan has explained that it actually takes several months for the amiibo figures to get to stores after the production has started. The company says that this is primarily due to the complexity of production as some figures are made by hand. However, Nintendo has said that it’s bringing out new shipments of Villager, Little Mac and Captain Falcon in Japan during May.

Thanks, Michelle

  1. Really, Nintendo is mass producing some of these amiibos by hand when they are shipping 50,000+ of that amiibo? That’s bullshit. What, do they have secret sweatshops working working on Rosalina as we speak?

    1. Also doesn’t explain why they decided to release them almost a month between each other per wave, and even the ones that are being released 5+ months after amiibo were first released are hard to find. Stop making excuses Nintendo and give it to us straight!

  2. The quality of amiibos are already pretty bad, especially Rosalina and Marth,, so I’m calling bull crap. I could see if we had the quality of amiibos we saw at e3 then I would understand. Not to mention all the defects we’ve seen confirm that they’re made in factories from different parts. And if what they say is true they need to speed up with releasing the cards, or should have never made amiibos if they couldn’t meet demand.

  3. The excuses some people give this company are hilarious. Iwata could sneak in your house and face fuck your mom and you’d all be giving him excuses 😂😂

  4. Poor excuse, Nintendo. You created the supply, but can’t keep up with demand? Then this “issue” with shipping them overseas? I only have 3 and that’s all I’m going to get. Thanks for making some really impossible to find and then they’re not even that useful. More like an expensive Nintendo paperweight. I’m disappointed with them.

  6. Stop fucking blaming Nintendo. Blame the fucking scalpers and the American “play dirty to make money” culture. Even the resellers in Japan don’t sell the fucking Amiibo for as much as people do in the US. I’ve found every Amiibo I want in Europe. This is mostly an AMERICAN problem. Plus you have exclusives. We don’t. We can buy them everywhere.

    1. Okay I’ll take the bait but no, this is not only an american or amiibo specific problem. You may have been able to get all your amiibo from Europe but multiple people from Europe have reported that they too are having restocking issues and pre-orders getting canceled. There are even multiple articles about it on this very website.
We blame Nintendo because again, the stock issues are primarily coming from them not giving retailers enough stock which is why rumors of them being discontinued started in the first place.

  7. Amiibos are high on demand and sell out fast, you people should have expected this. They can only make so many and ship them overseas at a time. This is why I got a Kirby amiibo and haven’t gotten another. They’re just going to be hard to find for a while. Once the demand dies down they will probably be easier to get.

  8. As they mentioned before, Nintendo did not realize how consumers will react to Amiibos.

Boo hoo I can’t get my Amiibos so I hate Ninendo. Grow Up! If it weren’t for scalpers and those who buy from them, supply and demand wouldn’t too much of a problem.

    1. Its why Nintendo has to step up their game against these scalpers and fully restrict everyone from ordering in bulk from online websites. How hard is it to restrict someone with “2 per household”? Its not, it’s simple but Nintendo hasn’t fully enforced this.

The only store I know who knows what’s up in this whole ordeal is Gamestop. And even they have had to bunk back down on a few amiibo orders to just “one per household” because of the limited supply and meet the demand of their customers to make sure things are fair.

But what about the others? Best Buy I heard is probably the worst place to buy anything related these days, Target didn’t do a thing to prevent the whole Rosalina fiasco, whatever toys r us are up to and Walmart apparently had some ace up their sleeve with the golden Mario.

I mention restricting it to “2 per household” because there are genuine people who want to collect them or trade them with others who’ve had better luck and not profit online to fetch a pretty penny.

    2. You do realize scalpers wouldn’t be a problem if Nintendo sent more than five rare amiibo per store right lol.

  9. Instead of an excuse, Nintendo should just say “we want to make more, but it’ll take some more time. “Please Understand”.
Then just do a “x months to resupply” during the ‘off-season’ between each Wave X release. If it means we have to wait(already are) in order to be able to buy a single one at retail, then so be it. At least then we’d be getting some into the stores.

Wave 3’s already been botched to hell as it is. Nazistop doesn’t even know when Ike or Dedede are coming in. “As late as April” is all they could tell me. That port strike had a bit to do with anything from overseas.

Like, once a month, pump a few amiibo from the earlier waves, but each time, a different wave/amiibo from said wave, and alternate it. (Obviously, the standard Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Bowser are the ‘staple’ item, and always seem to be in stock in places like Walmart.)
If a store wants/needs x, they put in the order and simply wait for their shipment.

Once all the Smash amiibo have released, increase the frequency of shuffling them around as the demand fluctuates. Once the REAL demand for the collection dies down, sell them directly off the Nintendo Shop. And from there, begin to push the amiibo/IRL Yugioh cards at Retail.

There’s a lot that can be done, but instead of owning up to it, they simply want to not speak because ‘fan’ backlash.

  10. By hand????? in the age of 3D printing???? I mean with the success of the amiibo they can buy lot of printers so they can produce a lot of amiibos. Also it’s not a surprise we saw some faulty ones.

  11. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Another excuse. *slow clap* As I’ve said on Miiverse, it’s bad enough we get excuse after excuse from 3rd parties as to why this multiplat is skipping the Wii U but is somehow on weaker consoles like the PS3 & Xbox 360 but we also have to hear them from Nintendo as well? Bleh!
