GameStop Has Now Sold Out Of All Preorders Of Wave 4 Amiibo

I received a number of emails from disgruntled Nintendo fans who had tried to purchase the fourth wave of amiibo. The GameStop site wasn’t particularly sturdy and went down a couple of times as people scrambled to secure their pre-orders. The retailer has announced on Facebook that Wave 4 amiibo pre-orders are now sold out, but didn’t offer an apology. I hope those of you who persevered with the GameStop website managed to get your pre-orders in.

UPDATE (6:48pm): At this time, all Wave 4 amiibo pre-orders are sold out.

————————————-

Due to very strong demand for the newest wave of Nintendo’s amiibo figures, GameStop is experiencing some technical issues with our website.

At this time, we are accepting pre-orders of amiibo in stores only while we resolve these issues.

We are working aggressively to resolve the technical issues as quickly as possible and expect it to be back online shortly.

Thanks, Rubberyen and AKA-Link77

        1. lol wut. Yes they are. They make the damn figures. The retailers are at the mercy of Nintendo. Even if Gamestop wants more units to sell, Nintendo has the final decision of how many they are offering to each retailer.

  1. It was a bad day… They didn’t even go up online.

This was my first time trying to an amiibo but nothing. Just goes to show how infuriating it is even for first timers.

      1. Nintendo doesn’t care. Does that end all hope? Not to diss you or anything, but I understand how you feel. But as I said, Nintendo doesn’t care.

  2. pink0crystal0midbus

At least it was the Smash amiibos. I just want the Splatoon ones and the Woolly World ones.

      1. pink0crystal0midbus

What?!? But, I didn’t even see them on their website… I STILL don’t see them on their website.

        1. As far as I know, none of the wave 4s were on the site at all, but they did indeed offer Spatoons for pre-order in store today. I got the 3 pack – it’s $35. :/

    1. Yeah I hate em! Was 3rd in line and the 1st in line wanted 6 sets!! I just bought the splatoon 3 pack.

  3. I mostly blame Nintendo for this. They made Amiibos limited on purpose. And they made some of them retailer exclusive, which benefits nobody but the retailer.

    1. Good luck with Lucina and Robin. They literally sold out of them when the GameStop employees rang up the first order. I at least managed to get Ness and Pacman.

      1. I checked Gamestop and Lucina or Robin weren’t even available. I guess I’ll be sitting in line for one instead. :(

  4. I BLAME………………………………………………………………… SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL,LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  5. Sold out of pre-orders? So their’s a limit of how many pre-orders a company can order? IF Not… How do you run out of pre-orders when GameStop doesn’t have them in their stores in the first place? o.O

    1. pink0crystal0midbus

Nintendo tells them how many preorders they can take, because Nintendo doesn’t meet demand, the limited supply sells out when it sells out.

  6. What was that thing that Nintendo was talking about a month ago? Oh yeah….that’s right….improved stock….glad they went through with…oh wait…nevermind……Gamestop was a fucking wreck with this whole situation. This is the 4th wave at this point……they should have learned at this point how flooded their site was going to be, and prepared better for it. I’m happy as hell that I didn’t want any of this smash wave’s amiibos. The Inkling Girl was all I needed and I successfully cashed in on her at 2pm CST before the shit hit the fan……honest to god….and then hearing about how Jiggly also sold out….it’s like Nintendo decided to slip in some laxatives with yesterday’s delicious goodies….all that we were left with was a huge pile of crap.

          1. To be completely honest I thought preorders were both online and in-store yesterday at 2pm CST, so I went after school with a bunch of my friends and ended up being the only person who left with anything preordered lol. Preorders weren’t in-store for the Smash ones yesterday, but apparently are today….on good friday…..when loads of them are closed…..lol….

  7. I was at a gamestop near me with some friends and there was a line to pre order these amiibos. Though we waited nearly an hour in line to find out that all the stock was gone…so no one in line got to pre order and everyone basically just wasted their time XD

  8. went there at 3 to pre order and it was me and only one other person. waited 45 minutes but got the bundle. sucks for you guys

  9. It was really ridiculous. After one hour most of the pre-orders amiibos were sold out. There was no online pre-order.
I honestly don’t see the point. Nintendo is making fans compete between themselves, instead of making everyone happy.

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>Everyone being happy is just a myth, humans define their existence by misery and suffering>>>

  10. The Amiibo problem is extreme bullshit. Nintendo needs to get there head out of the toilet and make more of these god damn infuriating pieces of plastic. I don’t even have 20 amiibo yet because of how poor the stock of these things are. I love Nintendo with all my heart but they have made some terrible decisions with these things. Anybody that wants Disney Infinity or Skylanders can have all the ones they want. There are tons of figures of both of those things, Disney still gets tons of there original infinity figures in stores, and nintendo gets preorders sold out on most of these figures, which makes no sense, you shouldn’t put something up for preorder unless you know everybody that wants it can get it, (tickets are an exception). And then it has taken them almost a half a year to stock one figure and even worse is that some figures (pikachu in particular) have so many readily available that they are put on skylander and disney shelf space. Nintendo also makes waaaaaay to many figures for Japan and Europe in which some figures only recently have been sold out and they got themselves together and they already have restocks for them coming.

Sorry for the rant that I couldn’t end well, as you can see I’m pretty pissed about this whole situation and nobody will probably see this.

      1. That made my day hahaha. I only have 5 buddy, Villager, Kirby, Toon Link and 2! Gold Mario’s : ). I only want certain ones.

      2. pink0crystal0midbus

I have 5. Diddy Kong, Mario, Peach and Zelda…. they were all given to me as a Christmas present lol! I bought one amiibo myself. The only one I wanted, Samus.

I WOULD like to own the SPaltoon amiibos and the Yoshi Woolly World amiibos though. I feel like to get the full experience out of those games, I need the DLC that comes with them. Especially Yarn Yoshi where you can play with two Yoshis at once.

    1. i have about a dozen. i check the stores all the time like a crack addict. I would buy them all if I could. bad supply and demand problem they’ve known about for more than half a year. hell, i had to order my new 3ds charging cradle from Japan. so ridiculous.

  11. I’m so mad because the moment I entered the door I was told the Amiibo were sold out. All I wanted was a Ness figure that wouldn’t cost me an arm and leg. Jesus christ man!

  12. I was first in line at my local gamestop and it took 40min just to get my order through. I can’t imagine how it was for all the people behind me but 40 minutes? They should have just done a set number of reserves per store instead of their Web InStore crap.

  13. They need to just stop preorders for amiibos. Nobody but scalpers who purchase hundreds of amiibos at the exact launch second get a chance at them… R.I.P. My hopes and dreams of ever getting Bowser Jr…

    1. Bowser Jr.? I doubt THAT wave of amiibo was available for pre-order at all just yet. This was only wave 4. Bowser Jr. is in wave 5 I believe.

  14. How could they sell out when they never even appeared on their site? I’ve been checking off and on all day, and they weren’t on there. This is VERY fishy.

  15. Guys, please spread the message: DON’T BUY AMIIBO FROM SCALPERS. Even if you want so badly your amiibo, don’t buy it from scalpers. Because if they do they’ll think it’s a lucrative business and continue selling tons of amiibo at draconian prices. It’s the same logic as trolls and replies. Just don’t buy from them. Please spread the message

  16. As soon as they announced there were more retailer exclusives I was done. I took back all the amiibo I had receipts for as well as Mario Party 10. And Code Name Steam. Fuck Nintendo. As for the rest of my Amiibo–well, you can find them on eBay.

  17. I waited in line at the Tooele, UT

gamestop location for 2 and a half hours for Amiibo wave 4 preorders. I was first in line and wanted to buy the 6

pack amiibo bundle and the 3 pack Splatoon bundle. Was told that they were sold out of everything and walked away with nothing. FUCK GAMESTOP. I will avoid them at all costs for now on.

    1. I’m very frustrated with the gamestop company and i am writing a letter to corporate home office right now.

  18. My experience:

Went to a GameStop store at about 2:20pm ET to pre-order the amiibo, they said that they wouldn’t be turned on for pre-ordering until 3pm so knowing that they are hard to find, I hung around the store until 3pm. The store manager started working on my order right at 3pm since I was waiting first, there was like 12 people behind me waiting too. I was pre-ordering the Splatoon 3-pack and they also offered a Smash Bros. Amiibo bundle where you get all 6 for $78.00 so I ordered that too. Problem is the GameStop servers. Every GameStop has a line of customer just like what was at the store I was in and every GameStop store was doing the same thing. Trying to process these web-in-store orders for these amiibo. Web-in-store was the only way they can be ordered when you go through GameStop. Can’t do it online, can’t do it through normal pre-order process at GameStop stores where you put down $5.00 and pay as you go, no, has to be web-in-store only and it has to be paid in full. So I spent $120.00 or so. Like I was saying, the servers were so slow that we were literally stuck on screens with the load progress bar moving sooooo slowwww. Even though it started right at 3pm, my order did not go through until about 4:10pm after waiting all that time. Glad my order went through and I got my email confirmation and I’m able to get them. The waiting really sucked bad. Was pretty ridiculous on the way GameStop went about this. Starting it at one specific time in the middle of the day like that so every store got overwhelmed with customers and their servers blew up. Not very well thought out at all.

  19. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get lots and lots of doubles of everything when amiibo goes trading card. Well except for the ultra rare holo cards that will sell on eBay for hundreds of dollars each that is.

  20. Guy at GameStop that wanted the Target exclusive Jigglypuff amiibo said that the pre-orders sold out online in 9 minutes. I believe it too, but that’s insane. 9 minutes.

  21. It’s not just Nintendo, Gamestop, or Scalpers faults
Its all of them combined, each have a part in it
There’s still other stores don’t forget

  22. Went to Gamestop in person today, the orders went live at 3pm EST. The systems were just frozen, nothing went through for at least 50 mins. First 2 people in line were able to get the 6 packs, unfortunately I was 4th in line and the order dropped out of my cart as they were trying to put it through. The employees were workin’ like hell though!

In the end, I got the Splatoon 3 pack, Ness, Charizard and Pac Man. Really want Lucina and Robin… Amazon and TRU seem to be my last hope.

  23. These retailers need to have separate return policies for Amiibo and other exclusive games. Make it 7 days and then you can’t return it. This way, these scumbag resellers can’t just hold onto all of them disrupting the demand curve. They’d be forced to return once they couldn’t sell for the outrageous prices and then would be stuck with them if they didn’t. I’m sure that would curtail these practices.

  24. I only wanted one amiibo. Just the greninja one, and they sell out in like 10 minutes. Fuck getting one of those Yarn Yoshi.

  25. All Nintendo has to do is make more shipments. If they decide to discontinue some of these, say the Ness for instance, I really think they’re on acid or something. We are practically throwing our monies at them. Don’t they want $$$? PLEASE I JUST WANT THE NESS AMIIBO.

  26. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Nintendo of America truly is run by fucking idiots!! Iwata seriously has to go because he’s done a SHITTY job the past few years. Gamestop fucking sucks, too. They botched this wave of amiibo up on purpose because of the fact they got an exclusive amiibo. I’m shocked they didn’t fuck up with wave 3 because of Shulk being exclusive.

I think Nintendo is purposely fucking up with amiibo at this point since they pretty much said in the Nintendo Direct this month “Good luck getting Marth when we do a limited re-release. If you don’t get him, too fucking bad! trolololololol”

  27. i have never been able to get my hands on any of the exclusives. especially because eb games in canada has the smallest nintendo section in the world. target closed it’s doors so no Rosalina amiibo or Jigglypuff. Nintendo of Canada actually lies about holding events and doesn’t provide explanations as to why they are a no show. they really need to fire some fucking north american executives! it’s like they are being paid by the competition to undermine Nintendo’s business.

  28. This stuff is completely disgusting. Not just the continuing Amiibo botchfest, but also their stupid policy of never cutting game prices for eternity, which just makes me not buy anything for my 3DS/Wii U. With anyone else you can wait awhile if you can’t afford the release price. If SMB was still in stores, they’d want $60.

  29. They told me Nintendo told them they only get a certain amount per store, and that’s it. In Canada some stores get less than 10 of Robin and those are the busy EB Games. Nintendo only gives them so many. They don’t seem to understand what preorders are.

  30. I am currently living in the UK and am thankful to say that until now, the Amiibo craze hasn’t been too bad here – enter Yoshi Yarn Amiibos!
So, I really don’t have as much to complain about as you guys do.
I feel bad for how Nintendo (yes NINTENDO to those few who really think stores out there don’t want to sell more Amiibo’s) are treating people over there.
Think about it… Nintendo have their own online shop… They can sell as much, or as little as they want through there. Are you trying to say that Nintendo, aren’t pre-ordering enough from themselves? Yes, that definitely sounds like Nintendo are the innocent party there! Also, why would any store, want to turn not put in more pre-orders and make more money? You might say, ‘why would Nintendo want to turn down money?’ That is a valid point and logically makes sense, but Nintendo are playing the long game. They have God knows how many Amiibos and Amiibo based games in the pipeline that neither us, nor retailers know about. So, Nintendo want to drum up hype and get people fighting over these things, so they will then stay ‘current’ and be guaranteed to have people wanting every single Amiibo out there and every single wave. This could go on for years. Retailers would rather not gamble as much, as make as much money, as quickly as possible. The minute people become bored of the Amiibos, Nintendo can kiss its payload goodbye. They are gambling with a lot and playing a risky game. If people get fed up and walk away, Nintendo will be screwed, but they know this is unlikely to happen.
Someone made a good point on here, that why would a store take limited pre-orders, if they could furfull as many as they wanted? So, thinking of it like that, why wouldn’t a store just take pre-order after pre-order and then say ‘this is how many we want?’ There’s ways around it all! Even if they kept Nintendo up to date with the amount of pre-orders they were getting, so Nintendo could make sure they were making enough to then dispatch for release date. Or dispatch in a reasonable time, so people didn’t have to wait for too long, but maybe not got them exactly on release date. Surveys could be taken ‘will you be pre-ordering Amiibos, and if so which ones?’ Mailing lists exist, for those who want to be alerted as to when Amiibo’s go on sale. They could get a rough idea on that. It’s called communication and it’s simple. If Nintendo wanted to, they could make and fulfil every single persons demand out there, ten times over. But, if everyone knew they could get Marth from any website, or store, the desire goes down. Not only are the scalpers out of pocket, but Nintendo are.
Scalpers are Nintendos best friend at this point in time! The higher scalpers charge, the higher Nintendo can charge because it looks cheap in comparison and and people are scared of getting ‘stuck’ with scalpers prices.
Also, for every Amiibo a scalper buys, Nintenso makes the money from it, even if a scalper makes more selling it on. So Nintendo don’t care who buys their ‘limited supply,’ as long as someone does.
However, the part I would blame on some retailers – that those who wish to defend their beloved Nintendo, seem to completely miss and therefore miss the point as to why this is the WII all over again – is that they are letting scalpers walk out with armfuls of Amiibos and allowing genuine collectors to que up for hours and leave empty handed.
Over here, I believe one reason things haven’t gotten so out of hand, is that most retailers are only allowing one per customer. It also helps that of-course they aren’t as popular here, therefor the scalpers aren’t playing a huge hand in helping Nintendo to control the world with Amiibos.
It seems as though (and this isn’t for everyone, so I’m no trying to offend) that the scalpers have done Nintendo a huge favour, by taking the ones with less stock out there – because in theory they were to be the less popular ones and not sell as much – buying them all and then jacking up the prices online. It has made the want for these ‘less popular ones’ go up. I would be interested to see what would have happened, if the scalpers had never been involved. Suddenly, they seem rare and desirable, to those who may have passed on them before. Of course this then screws over the collectors and fans, who had their heart set on them since Amiibo’s were first announced! And at the end of the day, for whatever reason, if someone wants to buy a fricking Amiibo, for themselves, or as a gift and not as a scalper, they should have every right to.
So, this is where, once again, Nintendo SHOULD be stepping in and going, ‘Oh, these are more popular than we anticipated, better hit the big green “GO” button and get some more sent out!’ Unfortunately, it seems like they all decided to take off work early, go to a bar and laugh together at their loyal customers. Then, instead of saying ‘we’ve had our fun, let’s respect those who have stood by us for years, those who have persuaded friends and families to buy our products, those who have kept us going when times were the complete opposite of what they are now and those who have realised how awesome we can be and jumped in on this hot new craze and let’s go take a giant shit on them all! After all, where would we be without them? We are Nintendo and can do whatever the fuck we like!’
Okay, maybe that’s a little OTT, but that is the impression I get after seeing everything that’s been going on over there either on the Internet, or from friends and family that are over in the states (I was born there!). And now, I’m starting to see it first hand.
I’ve been following this since last year and even though it’s not effected me directly (until now), it has been making me mad and for the first time ever, I am glad I am living in the UK.
This really shouldn’t be that complicated. None of us should be having this conversation really? If anyone in the world, where they are selling Amiibo wants to go and buy one, they should be able to go online, or to a store me at least have a fair crack at getting one.
I LUCKILY have managed to get my hands of the Yoshi Yarns Amiibos. But, along with the game it is going to cost me over £90 – around $140. Baring in mind, I could get the game for around £30, in some places. Also baring in mind, that I brought two Amiibos for £20 and the Toad one for around £15. That’s nearly double the prices, just on the Amiibo. I had to hunt a bit to ge the Toad Amiibo, but I did manage. But, it’s been nothing like the Yarn ones have. They are now sold out and some places were ‘overselling,’ preorders and have had to write to loads of customers saying they won’t be getting anything – I’m worried one website may do that to me soon because a friend tried to order yesterday and they were sold out. I tried today and managed to get a blue and pink. Online elsewhere, it confirmed that everywhere sold out on the release date – well, all three stores that had them.
But, as I previously said, remember when the WII’s game out? I worked at our version of GameStop at that point and it was mayhem. And it was all down to Nintendo, not supplying enough units and people selling them online for fortunes. We would get twenty in a week, if we were lucky, and had hundreds of pre-orders. Nintendo said they would fulfil them all, but it took over six months. In some parts of the country, people were still waiting for their Christmas presents in March! We weren’t even allowed to turn away pre-orders and weren’t allowed to give estimations on stock (we also had know clue), but I guess the ONLY upside to that, is customers new they were going to get one in the end.
One guy paid me £20 because I recommended he tried another store, who didn’t take pre-orders and he managed to get one, by pure luck! He came back and said I ‘saved his kids Christmas!’ Yet I did NOTHING!
So in conclusion, there are many, many things that could be done to solve the Amiibo craze, but the point is Nintendo won’t do anything because they plan on doing this for a long time. The minute there last Amiibo plan is out the door, they’ll probably re-release everything, the phenomenon will die down and you won’t be able to give the cute little pets away. Just look at what happened with the WII!
As for scalpers… I totally agree with what someone said about not buying from them. It isn’t like trolls who will get bored and run away, it is about money. If there’s money, they’ll stay, if there’s not, what would be the point? If the scalpers aren’t making money, why would they continue? If they were losing money because, as someone said, they couldn’t return the Amiibo’s after seven days and no one was buying, they would have no choice but to stop.
But, the point with this is, where there are scalpers, there will always be people to buy from them.
Again, this could be reduced by selling only one per customer – as I say, this is what has happened in this country and the Yoshi Yarns managed to last a day. So, the retailer would still be making their money and would not lose out. They would just have to work a bit harder and implement a system in which it recognises any of your details and stops you from ordering in store, or online. Of course that is not full prove, as there are always ways round it. Unfortunately there are still scalpers over here, who have used their ‘one per customer,’ to buy the three set of Yoshis and double the price. But again, these things combined could reduce a lot of issues!
If people just stopped buying from the scalpers in the first place, it would solve a lot of the problem altogether. But, we don’t live in a society like that!
The final step, would be if Nintendo would then supply even 50% more stock, or actually restocked in general, this would then diminish scalpers and all of this combined might, MIGHT just make things run more smoothly and allow us to actually enjoy the Amiibos, rather than spend an hour writing a long News a Paper article, on why Nintendo sucks!

In an perfect ideal world, everything I just said would happen, or would have already happened. Everything people on here and all around the Internet, would happen. But, it won’t. That’s what we all need to realise. I rant because it feels better and so do all you. But, Nintendo don’t care. If a company who designs computer games, can’t think of this simple algorithm you know there is something dodgy going on! This Amiibo fiasco is only just getting started and Nintendo is going to milk it, until the Zelda cows come home!
